Why do you think James Potter and Severus Snape put Lily on a pedestal? Was she all that? Was she that hot?

They both loved Lily, tho it's in debate if Severus loved her platonically or romantically. It was never clearly stated.

I think Severus put Lily on a pedestal because of her genuine kindness and love. She was like a dream come true so naturally Severus put her life above anyone else's. He would do anything for her like embarrass himself by threatening to sleep in front of the gryffindor commons till she spoke to him, accepting her requested that he stay away from her forever without hesitation no matter how painful it was, and risking his life for hers (which happened later on in their life) I feel that Severus would welcome her back with open arms if she had lived and decided to reunite with him no questions asked.

Now James is a bit difficult, for me, to say. I feel like he may think that the only fault Lily had was that she was best friends with Severus. I also kinda feel like he didn't see her as like a person and more as like an object. He did whatever he could to ruin her friendship with Severus and he even threatened to harm her and attempted to blackmail him.

When you put someone on a pedestal you practically treat them like some god or an ideal. You would think highly of them and sorta downplay yourself. James always thought he was a better choice for Lily. He practically thought highly of himself because of how much his parents spoiled him. Which I get cause they always wanted a kid but no matter how hard they tried his mother was never able to get pregnant so when he came they were overjoyed.

Honestly is it possible to put yourself on a pedestal cause I think that's what James did. It feels like he practically claimed Lily as his and refused to take no for answer because he was used to getting what he wanted. Severus is practically the exact opposite of James.

So I think Severus put Lily on pedestal and not James. If anything James put himself on a pedestal.
