Guys,
💕✨💙LUNA LOVEGOOD💙✨💕
That is all.
Severus & Lily
Love is when you want the other person to be happy.
Obsession is when you want you to be happy.
We have only relatively brief glimpses of Sev in his childhood but threaded through all of them is his submission to Lily's wants. When she gets upset or angry with him, he scrambles to change it. He censors his opinion of Petunia because it was not what Lily wanted.
Later, when he missteps in using the words "I won't let you -" to teenage Lily, and she slaps him down (not that she or we know what he was trying to say), Severus immediately backtracks. He isn't trying to control her here, he is trying to please her. Given the topic of the conversation, the gist of what he trying to communicate is that he doesn't want her to be deceived and endangered by James&Co, right after the werewolf trick that a) exposed the truth of Remus's condition, b) showed that Sirius at least had no hesitation in putting Severus in extreme fear for life, c) that Severus interpreted as James being in on from the beginning, and d) that Dumbledore would not effectively reign them in. And Lily was dismissing it all.
Finally, when Lily ends their friendship after SWM, Severus leaves her alone. That is the clincher to me; were he obsessed with her, he would not have let it go. An obsessed person would have prioritised his feelings & wants over her wishes - something Severus never, ever does.
Hence, it was love. Not a necessarily healthy love; but it began when they were children. He was lonely and neglected and the little kindness she gave him was far far more significant to his developing psyche than it would have been had he not been so starved for positive attention. And yet, he still put her wishes and happiness at a higher priority than keeping (or regaining) her as a friend.
To bolster this, his patronus is linked with Lily in some way. Obsession is a deeply negative emotion; it could not engender the pure happiness & protectiveness that Severus's doe patronus embodies, especially after her death made any reconciliation absolutely impossible.
Whenever I bring up the fact, that Severus is a victim of domestic violence at home, which basically fueled his vulnerability and reasonings of him being groomed into a death eater (since DEs work like a cult, they target the vulnerable), and people bring up Sirius running away at 16 from an abusive household, I WANNA PUNCH THEM.
It takes little to no amount of thinking, to realize that they have completely different circumstances. 1st off, Sirius was NEVER EVER abused before, there's no factual proof of this; The closest thing we've got, was Walburga being strict and favoring Reg over Sirius.
2nd, unlike Severus, Sirius had a shit ton of support. A key detail to this, is that Sirius was a GRYFFINDOR, meanwhile Severus was a HALF-BLOOD SLYTHERIN, sorted into a house full of pure blood supremacists DURING VOLDEMORTS RAISE, THE WORST TIME POSSIBLE. Sirius had the Marauders and the Potter's, Severus had no one. Even if he did have Lily by his 6th year, him and Lily lived in the SAME TOWN. He'd be found by the police or the Snape's under an hour. He'd have nowhere to go
3rd, Severus, unlike Regulus or any other DE, was GROOMED INTO JOINING. It's canon, that Severus never joined because of beliefs, but for the sense of belonging, as a SEVENTEEN YEAR OLD WIZARD, a teenager, that was mistreated by the light; Not only did the light side reject Severus, but it also literally bullied and tortured him; When you're being mistreated by EVERYONE from the 'good side', does it really seem like the 'good side' to you? No. Therefore, Severus chose the dark side, because that side treated him better than the light side ever did.
It's also important to emphasize, that the DE's function like every single cult. They prey on the vulnerable, such as Snape. Not only was he the perfect grooming victim, but also the perfect propaganda tool. Little to no Slytherins interacted with muggles, so who's to say they'd be able to differentiate propaganda and the actual truth? Especially since Severus was literally under an abusive muggle? The dark side saw Severus' vulnerability, as a traumatized, malnourished half-blood and took advantage of it, promising Severus privilege, power, respect, all the things that Severus craved!
He's craving for power and respect was legit what got him into SLYTHERIN (as his craving for power n respect could be seen as ambition, a literal SLYTHERIN trait), ofc he'd believe them and join the side that promised that?? Why are we surprised that a traumatized 17 y/o joined the side that promised him SAFETY?? ESPECIALLY SINCE HE WAS TORMENTED BY THE OPPOSITE ONE? HELLO??
And before all of y'all r gonna call me a nazi.. The DE's r not a nazi. Racist? Yes. Nazi? Fuck no 😭 And I'm not justifying Severus joining the DE's either. I'm simply explaining the reasoning why he joined and WHY it was realistic for him to join, hope this helps, xx
THIS 🙌

Harry tried to make a case for Snape having deserved what he had suffered at James’s hands — but hadn’t Lily asked, “What’s he done to you?” And hadn’t James replied, “It’s more the fact that he exists, if you know what I mean?” Hadn’t James started it all simply because Sirius said he was bored?
Even Harry understood that it had nothing to do with "social justice".
EVEN HARRY FUCKING POTTER UNDERSTOOD THAT

I really cant stand how Severus' trauma is downplayed, both by the fandom and the author of the books.
Everyone treated him like shit, not only his own father and marauders, but even Lily and Dumbledore. Not a single person really on his side.
1. Lily had the right to talk back at the slur, but the moment her ✨️best friend✨️ offends her first thing she does is calling him snivellous before the crowd and telling him to wash his pants (not to even mention that she smirked seeing him sa'ed).
Not a single thought he could have said that to protect her (for the fear of his bullies targeting her).
And turning away from your childhood friend without a shadow of doubt and public humiiation during sa is not typical of ppl their age. They were 15 in that scene, not little kids. If your friend is harrassed before everyone, even if youre at odds, a real friend will protect you, defend you and argue with you when your dignity is restored
2. And how come Dumbledore prioritises Remus' secret being kept at the cost of forcing Snape to stay quiet about his trauma of nearly losing his life 💀 the boy almost got torn to shreds by a werewolf due to the "prank" and he cant tell anyone about this.
Even if Remus isnt at guilt, forcing a victim to stay quiet to "save" another child?💀💀 Sirius didnt even pay for this, which means how little Snape meant for the headmaster.
Besides, James comes out of this scene as some kind of a hero who he's not. If it wasnt for him and his deraged friends, Snape would have never found himself in this situation, and he might never become the person who he became later in life.
In the end, despite not even an ounce of genuine care from anybody, Snape ended up protecting Harry and gave his life to deafeat voldemort.
He did wrong things, treated kids the way he had been treated all his life, but if I were him, I'd surely end up way worse, perhaps become worse than voldi.
Thank you for coming to my ted talk.
Do you think Snape ever fagged for Lucius. Like, in the British boarding school sense of the word, not the sexual kind. I would also think Lucius was a good fag-master.
In my opinion I don't think he did.
Given the years they were when in hogwarts together, it be like 2 years together with Severus being in his 1st and 2nd while Lucius would be in his 6th and 7th from what I've gathered. I think Lucius was like a mentor to Severus and I doubt Severus would allow him to treat him in such a way.
Considering that Severus later on made an unbreakable vow with Narcissa to protect Draco, I highly doubt he'd do that if Lucius treated Severus in such a way and I think Severus wouldn't stoop so low to act that way. Severus doesn't seem to be the type to accept help so there be no reason for him to fag for Lucius.
Severus and the Marauders weren’t rivals. They weren’t competing. They didn’t have the kind of petty back-and-forths you normally see in school when people don’t get along. The Marauders were a group of four against one. They were led by two upper-class boys from socially prominent families, with more than enough economic and social capital to get away with anything they did. And they used that power to do whatever they pleased at school, including targeting and harassing a student who didn’t have their money, their name, or their resources. A student who, on top of that, came from a poor and dysfunctional background and was clearly vulnerable.
You can’t talk about “rivalry” or “equality” in a dynamic of violence where there’s such an obvious imbalance of power. Denying that is classist as hell.
"What is that you’re wearing, anyway?’ she said, pointing at Snape’s chest. ‘Your mum’s blouse?’
There was a crack: a branch over Petunia’s head had fallen. Lily screamed: the branch caught Petunia on the shoulder and she staggered backwards and burst into tears.
‘Tuney!’
But Petunia was running away. Lily rounded on Snape.
‘Did you make that happen?’
‘No.’ He looked both defiant and scared.
‘You did!’ She was backing away from him. ‘You did! You hurt her!’
‘No – no I didn’t!’
But the lie did not convince Lily: after one last burning look she ran from the little thicket, off after her sister, and Snape looked miserable and confused…
Severus wanted to kill Petunia with a branch, sure🤡 If anything, the fact that he was straight up scared and immediately went into denial, hints at him being punished at home for magic outbursts. Because if I was 10 and someone made fun of me, I'd probably hit them with a branch and be smug about it. Which is not good, but that's what kids from violent environments do.
People manage to vilify a child for having reasonable emotional reactions that are expressed in ways they can't (literally can't, Severus didn’t even do it consiously! Just like Harry didn’t apparate on the school roof or paint his teacher's hair blue consiously!) control.
Perhaps not so belovèd.
I saw a post saying that snape respects women and… 😂 dude? Which book you read he does not respect women.
In which book exactly does he not respect them? In which book does he show disrespectful attitudes towards women because they’re women? Let me remind you that Snape’s biggest problems in the story are specifically with men. The ones responsible for his traumas are men. The ones who constantly bully and abuse him are men. Snape actually has a much softer attitude towards women than he does towards men. Yes, he’s still an asshole because he’s an asshole with a shitty temper, but his moments of being an idiot with male characters are always way worse than with female characters. Besides, Severus is constantly surrounded by women.
Honestly, some of you have the analytical capacity of a fucking sea urchin.
Severus Snape clearly! 🥰
Until the end of my time on earth I will protect him! (Also would if I was in Harry Potter!)
"Harry also had a shitty childhood and was bullied, but he didn’t turn out like Snape."
True, because:
Harry found refuge at Hogwarts, where he felt welcomed, supported, and protected from the very beginning. Severus did not.
Harry had adult figures who protected him, cared about him (Hagrid, the Weasleys, Dumbledore, Lupin, Sirius...), and showed him affection over the years. Severus did not.
Harry had two friends who would have torn apart anyone who dared to strip him in front of the entire school. Severus did not.
Harry and Malfoy had a rivalry because they were on equal footing. Severus was bullied by a group of guys who attacked him together and were far above him socially and economically.
Harry was rich—disgustingly rich, to be exact. Severus was disgustingly poor.
Harry felt loved from the moment Hagrid came for him just after his 11th birthday. Severus never felt loved in his entire damn life.
Harry was favored by Dumbledore and other school staff on multiple occasions. Dumbledore forced Severus to stay silent about an attempted murder against him.
Harry had choices. Severus had nothing.
Severus Snape didn't owe James Potter, Sirius Black, and Remus Lupin (and Peter Pettigrew, but thank god I've never heard this one) shit.
He didn't owe them forgiveness.
He didn't owe them respect.
He didn't owe them understanding.
He didn't owe them trust.
He didn't owe them help.
He didn't owe them care for their health and lives and safety.
He didn't owe them one single thing.
Even if they apologised (they didn't tho).
Even if they changed (they still didn't tho).
Even if they made amends (guess what, they didn't).
Victims are allowed to hate their abusers. It doesn't make them petty. It doesn't make them pathetic. It doesn't make them unreasonable.
It doesn't justify abusers' hate towards their victim or their continuing mistreatment of them.
