Uh oh, local man falls for his own ruse!
A spy is tasked with infiltrating a knight's inner circle and gaining his trust. He does a little too well at pretending to be the knight's friend, and the "fake" friendship rapidly gets out of hand as the knight falls HARD for his mark. The knight makes him want to care and have hope for the first time in years, and that terrifies him. He's supposed to be better than this, too smart to fall for his own lies.
So, naturally, the only solution is to betray the knight and ruin everything, like he was supposed to to begin with.

Twins raised to inherit a throne, Gold is sociable, energetic and irrepressible, while her sister Straw disappears into her shadow - but they’ve been living a lie their whole lives, and Straw really pulls the strings. When Straw takes an opportunity to realise her ambitions, Gold is distraught to be left behind - her twin doesn’t even care enough to use her as a tool. That creates a rift between them; they meet again as rivals. Straw tries to pull Gold back into her orbit, but Gold seems - just about - willing to reject her, whether out of new principle or simple spite.
