I was wondering if the GIW has a role in the SpaceAU? Like.. maybe SC has a secret division of “white suits” who renounce their loyalty to any planet/species? and run secret experiments with ectoranium and Phantom Planet debris (due to its exposure to the Ghost Zone) and they’re super interested in using halpha blood to make weapons, now that all ‘known’ halphas are feral? and their actions aren’t really known to the SC, but when Valerie goes rogue she stumbles on their experiments? Um.. I DUNNO

oooh! thanks for bringing this up! i didnt originally have a role set for the GIW but what you said is interesting because it makes it easy for me to shoehorn them into a role previously filled by something more generic an not really DP related… 

see, i had walker as a ‘big bad’ of sorts; he is part of the higher-ups of space corps (i think i mentioned a while back that theres a council or something? yeah hes part of that). but, he thinks space corps should be more militaristic and basically wants to take over and makes his own rules. hes got some followers not affiliated with the corps and uses them to do his dirty work so his reputation can stay clean within the corps- other people have no idea that hes doing all this or what his plans are. 

so anyway, back to what you were saying- the GIW could fit in very nicely here because they could be walker’s weapons providers and personal R&D team. however, i dont know if they would be a subdivision of the corps because that way they can keep walker’s business from being tied to the corps itself - although that could make the corps have that more corrupted feel that ive generally been trying to avoid… though i think the thing is here that walker is frustrated with how NONcorrupt everything is so anything space corps related that he sticks his hands into automatically becomes corrputed haha

also i think the GIW could function as a MIB-esque intelligence agency where they have all this information about other species that they want to keep from the general public (especially with non-corps earthlings). maybe the space corps uses them as consultants like a business partnership or something, and they ARE genuinely helpful to the corps, but the GIW are obsessed with following rules, and walker loves making them, so it was truly a match made in heaven haha. walker has them wrapped around his finger, so the end result is that the GIW do more harm than good, though space corps at large doesnt know it. like, walker wants to basically subjugate other planets/species, and in order to make this easier he uses the GIW for coverups and stuff

as a final note, the feral halpha blood thing is interesting… hmmmmmmmmmm…. (i could possibly tie it in to something im currently working on but i dont want to give away the details hehe……….)  i also like the idea of valerie stumbling upon the corruption of things after she leaves space corps temporarily… that could make for some interesting ideas!

Hi, I'm trying to figure out a currency that the Corps as a whole use, I was wondering if you had any ideas. I was thinking credits but I wasn't sure about if it should be something like dollars and cents type thing instead?

yeah, for the corps at large its credits. makes it easier when theres one neutral currency because theres so many different planets. different planets have their own currency but credits work most places because they can use them for intergalactic trading (i will make a separate post about trade systems). for rich people with lots of credits, they can buy pretty much anything whenever they want so if theres something that they truly need and cant get it anywhere else they have to use something special worth more than credits (maybe theyre called something silly like ‘merits’). for those that dont have credits or wouldnt find a use for them in interspecies/interplanetary contexts (especially in certain areas of terra ii), bartering is the way to go.

yeah, actually! (the continuing saga in which cy and i cant get out of each others heads and already know each others headcanons somehow)

but, like, i had a slightly different application in mind in addition to this. someone (becca i think) mentioned that maybe trainees could go to different workshops/tests to see where they would fit in best within space au and i said jazz could suggest to danny to do the flight course just for fun, since he showed such an interest in it.

and normally trainees spend months. years even. STUDYING for what is essentially a hyper-complicated driving test right. and heres danny who's never flown before (well, in a ship). but after learning what controls do what in the ship from the workshop he decides to take jazz's advice and try the test and only just barely fails because of technicalities. the kids a natural but he never learned safety shit like how to check oxygen levels and airlocks and seatbelts before takeoff so thats the only reason he doesnt pass and theres all these instructors just baffled that he pulled off this test flawlessly

both. he wears the trainee one until he graduates the cadet program!

Heyy so I was ogling the lovely space au suit designs (for reasonsss) and I noticed that the thermos has its own nifty little holster - which looks pretty rad. But it gave me pause. What exactly is the thermos's functionality in this au? Does it still have the capacity to suck up foes? I mean since they're aliens/people instead of ghosts - it doesn't seem quite as scientifically rational. Just wondering if you had given any thought to the subject

thats a great question, and i dont think ive ever actually talked about the thermoses so thanks for reminding me!

so the space corps are essentially peace-keeping police, while also kinda doing star-trek-style exploration on the side i guess? but for the policing biz the thermoses still suck up baddies- it’s just cailbrated to bio matter instead of ectoplasm (you said it wouldnt be scientifically rational so i attempted a sciencey explanation but sorry its kinda still bullshit lol. its partly goofy on purpose). but yeah its way more effective than handcuffs, especially when not every species they come across has hands. 

i imagine them as a sort of multi tool so i bet they have some sort of display on the side that gives basic information about the contents of the thermos at any given time, plus an ability to determine outside environmental conditions, and maybe its got other cool things built in like a wifi hotspot or something. but theres not really anything offensive about them (besides maybe like a lipstick laser equivalent that pops off the side?) and thats because the point is to neutralize by capture if a target is not cooperative. space corps generally frowns upon injuring/killing targets without a very, VERY good reason (protecting the safety of yourself/others at large). but, oh, maybe its not entirely too difficult to try to break free when in the process of being sucked up, if you try hard enough like a pokemon thing where you have to be worn down a bit in order to be captured all the way by the pokeball haha
