(Ooc: Give me a fat second to explain what’s up here. This is a different perspective of story. All of the readers will get a dose of dramatic irony. Sometimes a writing will be taking place with different characters, and as readers you will know everything that’s going on. The SA crew won’t have any idea, unless the readers choose to tell them. Anyway let’s continue—)
It was nearly midnight, and on the empty New York docks, a pitch black Lamborghini pulled up and came to a stop at the end of the pier. Romeo kicked the car door open, obviously in a panicked rush, and ran down the pier. He was holding a thick gray briefcase, and his hair was sticking up in random directions. He looked as though he'd just gotten out of a large tussle. He stopped in front of a large warehouse, checking his watch.
Taking a deep breath, he pushed open the warehouse doors and stepped inside. His skin ran cold as he caught eye of the figure sitting in wait at the center of the room. The soft glow from the man's goggles and the faint light from the bulbs in the ceiling was the only light in the warehouse, creating for an uncomfortably eerie setting. The purple glow defined the edges of the figures face, showing the visibly annoyed expression of the Witherstorm Leader.
Romeo cleared his throat and walked forwards, stopping in front of the man.
“I apologize for the delay.. We ran into a few obstacles along the way.”
The Leader said nothing, and there was a moment of silence before he held out his hand for the briefcase. Romeo didn’t hesitate before handing it over. He watched as the Leader popped open the case, revealing a shiny silver orb packed snug in the shaped black foam. It had a radioactive symbol carved into the top of it.
The look on the Leader’s face perked up.
“That’s also government property.. I’m wanted internationally at this point. May I ask, what do you need all of this for anyway?” Romeo spoke up from the eerie silence.
The Leader shot him a slight glare and made a cut throat motion with his thumb. Romeo quickly shut up. The gaze itself felt like being held at gunpoint.
“I-I’m sorry, not my place to ask...”
As the Leader shut the case again, the warehouse doors were pushed open. Two men, looking almost identical besides the hairstyles, walked in. The slightly taller one had Aiden over his shoulder, meanwhile the smaller one was carrying a bag filled with various laptops and phones. The Leader looked up to acknowledge them.
“We did it, we can go!” the smaller one said with a short happiness in his tone.
The Leader gave them a nod and motioned for them to leave. They did, walking past him and to a back door, where they left the warehouse and went out onto the empty pier.
He looked back at Romeo, stepping forward and holding out a small silver pistol. Romeo hesitated before taking it, but did and looked it over. It had Orion carved in cursive letters on the side, and before he could say anything, the Witherstorm Leader turned and began following his companions.
Romeo stared at the Leader, then down at the weapon in his hand. He knew it was a test, a trick, he knew it. But with what's been happening with him, he wanted to test it. The fear he'd been feeling in his gut only turned to a rage at the sight of the gun, loaded with a single bullet. This man had been holding him hostage, blackmailing him, holding his life on the line and he hadn't gotten a dime for any of his troubles. Romeo was at wits end.
But he knew it was a trick.
He could feel it.
It was a trap.
But he couldn't stop himself. He lifted the gun, putting his finger on the trigger. Before he could fire, however, there was an explosion, and the warehouse doors were blown off the hinges. Romeo and the Witherstorm leader both grunted, stumbling forwards from the shockwave.
"There! Don't let either of them escape!" an agent yelled from the doorway.
One of the twins ran back inside, calling out to his Leader. The Leader quickly motioned for him to get back and run, getting back to his feet. However, as he tried to escape, he was kicked in the chest and knocked back by another agent, who's crew had flanked to the other exit.
Romeo was caught by surprise, turning the gun on the agents and firing. He took one down, but more ran in. Their headquarters was shut down, they had all arrived to this scene together, in hopes of catching whoever did it. Most of them were already fueled by anger.
The Witherstorm leader protectively moved in front of the smaller twin and backed away from the agents. Romeo threw him his pistol, knowing that it was all or nothing. They'd gotten cornered, and needed to fight their way out. The Leader caught the weapon, quickly dropping that magazine and reloading. He began firing at any agent close enough. They all hid and returned fire. The Leader's main goal seemed to be keeping his companion safe.
The fight commenced for quite the while. Romeo found a way to slip out while the agents were focused on the Witherstorm, and escaped by swimming himself to another pier. This left the Witherstorm alone to fend for themselves.
The Leader knew they wouldn't be able to do it for long, and soon they were surrounded, hiding behind a large stack of boxes.
"Alright, that's enough!" the voice of an officer boomed through a megaphone, "Come out and surrender!"
The Witherstorm didn't move, they stayed hidden.
When they thought it was over, there was yet again another change in events. There was a sudden flash of light on the ceiling of the warehouse, a loud yell, and a figure came crashing down onto the ground. He bounced, and came rolling to a stop against the wall. He was hooded, masked, and wearing a faint glowing pair of green goggles.
Everyone stopped, and the Witherstorm leader looked up in questioning. The man was dazed, and rubbed his head. However soon he realized what he'd collapsed into the middle of, and in a panic he scrambled to his feet and dove into hiding.
"There's another one! Be on high alert! Don't let them leave!" there was sudden defensive reactions from the surrounding agents and officers. More gunshots went off, and the panicked cries of the newcomer soon led to bolts of what looked like purple lightning being fired from his hiding place. The Witherstorm ducked and covered, the Leader protecting the twin the best he could.
Soon enough, the one newcomer had cleared out nearly half of the room just on his own. Many agents had fled or hid in order to just survive. The Witherstorm saw this as their chance to escape.
Moving quietly, they began to move to the door. They caught the attention of the newcomer, who watched them, a sparking, glowing bow still drawn. The Leader signed a genuine "thank you", and the twin began to translate. Before he could get a word out, however, the newcomer quickly signed a confused "you're welcome, I suppose?" in return. Once again, the Leader was visibly caught off guard and surprised, but nodded before quickly heading out of the door. Startled and just now realizing what happened, the newcomer jumped in a panic and went to follow the escaping terrorists.
While he focused on the Witherstorm, an agent successfully managed to sneak up behind him and hit him in the back of the head with the hilt of his weapon before he could escape. He dropped with a grunt, unconscious, on the warehouse floor, his bow falling beside him and the lightning arrow disappearing.
The agent quickly shifted gears from one target to the other, and when he went to attempt to catch up with the Witherstorm, he burst from the warehouse and looked down the pier. To his dismay, they had already disappeared, nothing but the crashing waves against the pier and a single bullet cap left.
Doppelganger
Hearing that the Witherstorm had turned around changed the whole situation. Jesse was packing faster than he ever had before, and Lukas was right behind him. Now Lukas was in a light panic. However, trying to move quickly he kept straining his wound, and occasionally he felt his chest tighten. He tried to control his breathing, because an attack is the last thing he'd want right now, but it grew more and more difficult as the tension grew.
Lukas quickly explained the plan to the others, and they decided on leaving Petra and Axel both in the apartment to protect the wounded and busy. Leaving Olivia there both Lukas and Jesse knew would cause a few problems for them, but it was a risk they had to take. They wasted no time before leaving the apartment and getting into the van.
"Fucking floor it!" Jesse yelled over the already roaring engine as the car took off before he could even shut the door all the way.
"Wait, what the hell is OUR plan?" realization punched Lukas in the nose and he turned to Jesse with a questioning look.
Jesse's eyes widened and he froze up. He dragged out a long "uhh" before answering.
"Uhm- uh- Well warn the agency of course! They're about to be hit again! And also we've gotta get to whoever this green goggles guy is. Obviously he's.. Important somehow. We've gotta get to him before the Witherstorm does!" Lukas could practically hear the gears turning in Jesse's head as he desperately tried to form some basis of a plan, "Oh yeah! And we've gotta find Ivor! We can't leave him behind again, and he might have information we could use!"
---
Meanwhile in the agency headquarters, the mystery figure was sat cuffed in a quarantine chair. Broken glass was littered on the ground around him from windows and glasses shattered by the explosions. His hood, goggles and mask had been removed, instead a blindfold was now covering most of his face.
Ivor was standing outside of the room, looking through the glass window at the familiar man. A couple other agents were beside him, all equally confused.
"That's not him, is it? Did he have a twin? Anything?" one of them spoke up.
"Their DNA matches completely. It's the same guy.. But..." the other trailed off, glancing to Ivor for some finish.
"Hang on, maybe we should ask him some questions first. We can't simply assume," Ivor said, setting a clipboard on a nearby table and fixing his suit.
"It's not assuming! The DNA, Ivor. The DNA matched. That's solid scientific evidence," the second agent said again.
"This doesn't change my statement. You two wait out here," Ivor opened the glass door and stepped inside the room. The man was fiddling with his cuffs, not looking to break out, just seemingly bored. Ivor tugged the blindfold off the man's eyes and blinked in surprise.
"Lukas?"
"Ivor?!" the man, his appearance uncanny to that of Lukas, sounded just as, maybe even more surprised at the sight of Ivor.
"Why are you surprised?!"
"What are you doing here-?!"
"Wha? What are you doing here?! You're the one who took out half the agency singlehandedly!"
"What does that mean? Where are we?"
"What? We're in New York, nothings changed! Why were you attacking your own unit??"
"I was what-? What's my 'unit'? What are you talking about? Man I just got here and got shot at! I was defending myself!"
"What are you talking about? Your new getup? Your sudden... Abilities? What is all this?"
"I- I don't understand- new getup? I get this is.. Sort of a new getup but- Ivor--"
"You killed agents, Lukas! What were you thinking!? You let the enemy get away! You helped them escape, like a traitor! And now you're playing dumb?"
"I- I-.." Lukas dipped his head, a genuinely confused expression on his face. Ivor had a mix of disappointment and confusion twisted into his expression. Lukas didn't know what was happening. Before he could respond again, a large explosion rattled the building. Screams came from downstairs, and smoke began to fill the room. This caught Ivor's attention immediately, and he whipped around. Lukas saw this as his chance and got to his feet, grabbing his goggles and mask from the table before shoving past Ivor and running out of the room. He did his best to get his hood over his head and his goggles on with his cuffed hands, and putting the mask on was even more difficult, but he managed.
His main goal now was finding an escape. As he was running through the halls, he turned down a corner and came to a halt as someone grabbed him by the back of the shirt and yanked him back. Instead of an attack, like Lukas expected, they instead quickly covered him from an explosion that would've taken him out instantly if he hadn't stopped. Surprised, he glanced up at his rescuer only to see the familiar face of the Witherstorm Leader.
---
Jesse and Lukas saw the explosions from the outside, and grew into even more of a panic.
"Oh fuck, they beat us!" Jesse was already getting his weapon readied.
"Uh huh, yeah, no shit!" Lukas yelled over another explosion as they grew closer. He nearly crashed the car trying to stop it on the road, and both quickly kicked open their doors and ran into the agency Headquarters. The front doors were blown off and there was shattered glass everywhere. Bodies littered the lobby room. The entire building looked like a war zone of a one-sided fight.
Jesse ran forwards first, heading to the stairs. Once he'd only gotten halfway up the first flight, a Witherstorm twin was waiting for him, delivering a hard kick to his chest and knocking him right back down the stairs. Lukas, who was heading up behind him, quickly caught him before he could tumble all the way to the bottom. Jesse groaned, sore from the kick, but still got back to his feet. He watched the twin turn and run, heading all the way up the stairs and running down a hallway.
"Catch that guy! Don't let him escape!" Jesse yelled to Lukas as they both followed him up. Lukas made it up first and took off down the hall after the twin. Jesse followed after, until catching sight of the other twin. The second twin spotted Jesse first and ran in another direction, successfully baiting the desperate agent and splitting up the duo as Jesse chased after. The second twin was faster, and eventually managed to get Jesse off his tail and leave him in the dust. Lukas, however, couldn't be shaken. Soon enough the twin began to tire, and slowed just enough that Lukas caught him by the scarf and yanked him to a stop. The force was so great that they both tripped over each other and smashed onto the ground.
The twin tried to get up and run, but Lukas grabbed him by the ankle and knocked down again. In the following tussle, Lukas succeeded in getting on top of the struggling twin and pinning him down.
"Jesse! I got one!" he called to his partner, who was still making his way back. However there was a drop in excitement when Lukas felt the crushing feeling in his chest return, this time worse, and seconds after an electric shock ripped through him. He cried out from the excruciating pain and collapsed to the side, off of the grounded twin. He laid curled up and twitching, as a new figure approached him.
The twin scrambled off the ground and ran right to the Leader, dipping behind him. Beside the Leader was the other Lukas, fully masked, which hid the blatant shock of seeing his doppelganger lying just in front of him.
The Leader cocked his pistol, fully ready to end the agent's life right then and there, but as if on cue, Jesse leapt into the hallway with a yell and immediately began firing. The Leader reacted quickly, moving in front to guard and shoving the other's around the corner as fast as possible. Bullets ricocheted off walls and shattered glass, and the Leader knew it was best time to just leave.
After the Witherstorm disappeared, Jesse quickly ran to Lukas, kneeling beside him and dropping his pistol. Lukas was once again a gasping heap on the ground, coughing and struggling to get any air in. Jesse took him into his arms and held him close, trying not to show the fear that he really felt.
He didn't know what to say besides mumbling light "you're okay"s and "breathe"s, as he was mostly blocked by light fear. He didn't want to move until Lukas calmed down, and he did his best to help Lukas relax. Lukas was clung onto Jesse, almost terrified to let go. His attack went on for a few more minutes, Lukas near passing out in that time, however it did eventually subside as Lukas finally managed to take a few full breaths.
"We.. We need to move.." he managed to croak out, catching Jesse off guard.
"I'll- I'll get you out- but I still need to find Ivor, we can't leave him behind again," Jesse tried to speak over his fear. He picked Lukas up, making sure to be as careful as possible, and started finding his way out.
---
The Witherstorm Leader led his Lukas and the twin out of the building, and down into the subway just outside. He stumbled a few times along the way, but motioned for them not to worry about it. The other twin was waiting by a very obvious hole in the subway ground, and gave everyone a genuinely relieved look.
"Leader!" he cried, running over to the group, "You did it! Oh I got worried-- Ranger, are you alright?"
Ranger, who was a little shaken up but not wounded, gave his brother a quick nod.
"The virus came to my aid just in time,, that other agent was just around the corner. We need to go though, before they come looking for us."
The Leader nodded as well, motioning for the twins to head down into the tunnel underneath them. They listened and hopped down. Once they had went to the ship, the Leader turned around to face this Lukas doppelganger. Lukas didn't waste any time before launching into the first of many questions he had.
"Why?"
He used sign, once again stunning the Leader. He thought for a moment before replying.
"I owed you. You saved me. And my brother. I'm curious, may I ask you the same?"
"I didn't know what was happening.. I'm.. Not exactly from here. I just defended myself, I didn't know you were there as well. But I have to say, I'm glad I did. You just got me out of a tough jam."
"Well, yes. I felt that was necessary. Not only did you help me, you're strong. And.. The first to not try to shoot me on sight, it seems. I'm not normally open to strangers, but so far I'm impressed and, admittedly, very curious. Also, I respect your choice of uniform."
"Oh, yeah, we do look similar in fashion don't we?"
"Very. I like your style."
The Leader halted for a moment, seeming to hunch and putting a hand lightly on his side. His face twisted into a slight bit of pain, but he tried to hide it the best he could. Lukas though, caught it instantly, and knew something was wrong.
"We should go down," the Leader signed quickly, "We can finish this talk later. Though I am giving you the option."
He held out his hand to Lukas, taking Lukas aback. He caught the drift. It was his choice to join or not. He thought for a moment, glancing back to the subway exit. He wouldn't stand a chance on his own, and he knew that.
Still with a slight bit of hesitation, he took the Leader's hand. For a moment, the Leader was once again pleasantly surprised.
Wounded
Lukas already knew what he was going up against but he could tell that something was seriously wrong. He approached the Witherstorm Leader, tapping him on the shoulder. For a moment Trevor jumped, but the Leader didn’t react. He turned to look at Lukas with surprisingly little amount of annoyance, waiting.
“Are you okay?” Lukas signed to him, getting a light grimace in reply.
“I’m fine” was obviously the first thing for the Leader to reply with, but Lukas didn’t buy it.
“You’re lying.”
“What?”
“Go check.”
“I said I’m fine.”
“You’re hurt, go check it.”
The Leader shot him a look, but sighed and got up. He snapped once and Trevor looked up from what he was doing. He saw the Leader gesture to the controls and got excited, jogging over to come and take control of the ship.
“Stay, make sure we stay on course. I’ll be back in a minute.”
The Leader walked off, heading to another room and tugging the door open. He stumbled and nearly fell against the door, but quickly pulled himself back together and left, shutting the door behind him.
“He’s not okay is he?” Ranger asked Lukas, who sighed.
“Probably not,” he replied, using his voice for the first time.
Meanwhile the Leader sat on the end of a bunk, putting a hand to his side. When he removed it, his hand was already coated in fresh blood. After taking off his goggles, he tugged off his vest and undershirt and revealed the large bullet wound in his side. Even he hadn’t realized it was this bad. However, now that he was aware, he felt the full force of it.
He got up again, stumbling to a cabinet and grabbing out what he needed. He was just now registering how much he’d bled and how weak he’d gotten. He’d started shaking, but he knew at the same time he needed to remove the bullet or he’d die either way. He managed to start a small fire, setting the end of a metal rod just in it before he began to go down.
Lukas could hear the Leader stumbling around a bit, hearing him drop onto the ground. There was the short sound of metal clattering, followed by obviously labored breathing and groans through gritted teeth. Lukas was standing just outside of the door almost protectively, questioning whether to go in or not and assist. He moved his goggles to his forehead and rubbed his eyes. Finally he was seeing in a color other than green.
The Leader was meanwhile sat pressed up against the back wall, as he drenched the wound in disinfectant and tried to contain any agonized cries. He tugged off his scarf, already in a cold sweat, and threw it aside. He was doing his absolute best to contain his reactions, but it was extremely difficult and was only adding to the pain. His hands were beginning to shake and his vision had grown blurrier than usual.
Yet, that didn't stop him from trying to get the bullet out from where it was lodged into his skin. He used a small pair of tweezers to dig inside of the wound, the cold touch of the metal sending a searing pain throughout the area. His cries grew louder, breathing shakier, and yet he still continued. He kept telling himself it was for the greater good, and dug around until he came in contact with the bullet. Slowly and carefully, he tugged the bullet out. Through gritted teeth he tried to bite back his muffled yells, and soon enough the bullet was removed and the screams shifted instantly to strangled, heavy gasps. He dropped the tweezers with the bloodied and shining bullet onto the ground and quickly put both hands over the wound, trying to take a moment to calm down.
With that he heard the door creak open, and to his surprise, Lukas stepped inside. Upon seeing the Leader's condition, Lukas went from somewhat collected to a light panic again.
"You should have mentioned this," Lukas signed to him while kneeling beside him. The Leader gave him a light look, however it leaned more towards an assuring look rather than an annoyed look.
"You're going to say that you're okay. Which will be lying. Let me help."
Lukas checked his belt, and to his relief there was a single potion strapped in. A potion of healing. He grabbed it from his belt, but before he could open it the Leader set a hand over it and lowered it. He shook his head, and Lukas gave him a questioning look.
"It will heal you, what's wrong?"
The Leader let out a heavy sigh and reached up to his mask with a shaking hand, tugging it down and exposing the rest of his face. Lukas recoiled lightly at the sight of the Leader's stitched and scarred mouth, and suddenly understood.
"I.. Didn't know, I apologize--" Lukas signed quickly after putting the bottle away.
"If that can heal, it should be saved for later anyway.." the Leader signed to him, struggling to sign the words correctly while he was trembling, "Just help me close it.."
Lukas nodded and looked around. The Leader pointed upwards to the counter in front of him, signaling to the burning embers of the fire and the still glowing rod sat in the middle of it. Lukas grimaced lightly but grabbed it, going back to the Leader and not wasting too much time. He gave him a simple countdown before pressing the burning rod against the wound. The Leader immediately jerked, but quickly tried to contain himself.
There was an instant sizzling sound of burning skin, as the smell soon filled the small room. The Leader let out genuinely agonized yet muffled screams, balling his hands up into fists and gripping onto one of Lukas's sleeves. Soon enough, however, Lukas pulled the rod away and the Leader went limp against the back wall. He was drenched in sweat, breathing heavily and still coughing occasionally, but the wound was sealed now.
Lukas helped finish taking care of him by pressing a cool guaze pad over the wound and wrapping it in fresh bandages. He tried to be as careful as possible, and when he was done, he looked back to the Leader's face.
The look of disbelief and confusion on his face was almost sad to Lukas. He'd never been helped before. It was a look of nothing but "why?", and if Lukas was being completely honestly, he didn't know. If anything he felt bad for the man. He felt some sort of need to assist, even though they've only been allies for a half an hour.
Lukas helped the Leader to his feet, half carrying him as he led him over to the bunks. Lukas helped the Leader lay down, picking up the loose clothes from the ground afterwards and setting them on the foot on the bunk. He cleaned up the room, picking up the bloodied tools and bullet from rolling around and setting them back on the counter. He put out the fire and dropped the red hot rod into a small sink. Before Lukas could leave the room, the Leader caught his attention. He signed a shaky "thank you" to him, this time less formal than the last. Lukas gave him a nod and a light "You're welcome" before exiting the room and shutting the door behind him.
Home
The Ender Dragon was finally in the clear, and the rest of their journey was basically uneventful. However, Ranger did notice that the uboat was getting heavier and heavier in the water as is filled up. By now, the water in the bunks room had reached the circular window and was beginning to crack the glass. Ranger had to pilot the ship very slowly in hopes to not shatter the glass with pressure.
Lukas was sat beside Orion, resting and trying to sleep, meanwhile Orion couldn’t sleep if he tried. Orion was trying and failing to control his bleeding. The water kept washing away the blood, and the wet cloth wouldn’t help either. It hadn’t stopped or slowed, and he was starting to get worried. The bandages soon came off, soaked in seawater, and the salt burned the split wound badly. Orion was trying his best to contain his agony but he could only do so much.
Trevor was busy struggling with the bolts still trying to come loose as he tried to contain the leaks for long enough for them to get back, however occasionally stopped to try and help his older brother with the wound. Trevor didn’t know what to do, and was still frankly afraid to do anything, but he still tried.
Eventually, Ranger cried out in suddenly realization.
“Where is Aiden?!”
Lukas jumped awake and Trevor dropped his wrench in surprise.
“Oh!! Oh no-!” Trevor ran to another door, untwisting it and shoving it open. Water flooded into the room, and Trevor ran in. Aiden was lying still unconscious up on a bunk, the water had almost reached him. Trevor quickly went over and dragged him off, struggling to pull him through the water and into the other room. He dropped Aiden down and, with all of his strength, tugged the door shut again.
“He’s okay! He’s okay! Oh- you reminded me just in time!” Trevor gasped before beginning to fix the leaks again.
“A- Aiden??” Lukas blinked himself awake, dumbfounded.
“Yeah, he’s one of Leader’s soldiers! Or- Hacked soldiers. He’s ok, he’s just switched off right now,” Trevor replied as he worked.
“... Hacked?... I’m too tired for this shit..” Lukas didn’t question any further and shut his eyes again, trying to go back into at least a light sleep.
“What, do you know him?” Trevor didn’t look over, unaware that Lukas was trying to sleep.
“A different one, don’t worry about it...” Lukas mumbled in reply.
“Oh, okay.”
Trevor climbed up on the pipes, trying to reach some of the higher leaks. Orion meanwhile eventually fell into a light sleep, just from pure exhaustion. He’d lost too much blood, to the point where it was near impossible for him to stay awake.
Soon enough, however, they successfully made it back to the base. Ranger piloted the broken down sub into a large hanger room, bringing it to a hovering stop. The room drained, dropping the uboat on the ground with a creaking smash and causing everyone to jolt awake. Lukas immediately jumped up, expecting to be being attacked once again, but quickly relaxed as he realized the situation.
“We’re back— Quickly, we need to get Leader to the infirmary!” Ranger hopped out of the captain’s chair, “Green— do you mind if-“
Lukas cut him off.
“Don’t worry, I’ll get him there.”
“Take Trevor with you, he can lead the way- as for me I’m getting Aiden back to his quarters,” Ranger replied as he picked the still surprisingly unconscious Aiden up.
Lukas nodded and grabbed hold of Orion, picking him up out of the water. Orion didn’t react this time, simply limp against the archer as everyone fought their way out of the sub.
“Oh, ignore the dogs!” Ranger called as he ran off with Aiden in another direction.
“Dogs-?” Lukas didn’t get a chance to question before three black dogs came running from the hallway, nails clicking on the ground spastically as they tripped over each other to make it to the Witherstorm. One dog split off, running after Ranger.
Lukas quickly tried to walk past them, Trevor trying to calm the tail-wagging dogs down as he followed. The largest one was letting out light whines and barks as it ran after both of them.
Trevor ran down the hallway, Lukas just behind him as he led him down to the infirmary.
“He can get real help here, yeah. Just set him on one of the beds and Ellegaard can do the rest!”
“Ellegaard—?”
“Yeah, another Hacked! Why do you know her too?”
“Er... Must be another one...”
“Ah.. well.. Either way— Orion really needs help-“
“Right right, I hear ya..”
Lukas quickly went over to the closest empty bed, laying the unconscious Leader down gently. He hesitated for a moment before leaving, however the tug from Trevor hurried him. He left the room with Trevor, leaving Orion to recover.
Too Close for Comfort
The probe had spun out of control after an explosion knocked them off course. The second sub was now confusing the torpedoes, and the first two missed, whizzing past and crashing into the rocks behind the Ender Dragon. The force from the explosion knocked both subs in different directions, and did significant damage to the probe.
Lukas was holding onto Trevor, making sure he was protected from the blasts, while also trying to steer the probe to the Ender Dragon. He didn’t know exactly what he was doing but he’d gotten a pretty good idea. It didn’t matter, they just needed to get to safety. The Ender Dragon itself was desperately trying to make a turn behind the rocks to be safe from the other two torpedoes.
As the Ender Dragon dropped behind the rocks, the torpedoes seemed to shift direction. On the radar, Lukas instantly noticed.
“Trevor— Trevor we need to go- now NOW-“ Lukas grabbed Trevor quickly and went to the hatch. He twisted the door open as the blaring of the alarms got faster, and he helped Trevor climb down into the water. He followed after as fast as he could, diving down nearly headfirst into the water. They only managed to get a few feet away before the two torpedoes came in contact with the probe.
The explosion following hit both of them hard, knocking them forwards and spinning them out of control. Trevor got control first, having more experience in the water, and swam over to Lukas. The Ender Dragon wasn’t far away, and Trevor wasn’t fixing on drowning, so he grabbed Lukas by the wrist and pulled him down as he swam towards the Ender Dragon hatch.
Lukas already felt the crushing feeling in his chest before they got halfway to the hatch, and Trevor was almost dragging him along as they went. Soon they made it to the hatch on the top of the Ender Dragon. Trevor quickly twisted it open, using almost all of the strength he had left, and tugged Lukas along as he climbed down into the uboat. He shut the door above them, swimming over to another panel and slamming his hand on the largest button. The cabin drained, and Trevor and Lukas fell to the ground in coughing heaps.
Lukas rolled onto his hands and knees, coughing up the nasty saltwater lodged in his throat, Trevor gasping for air beside him.
Ranger quickly slammed open the door and ran in, not questioning anything before dropping beside Trevor and yanking him into a hug.
“Oh my god- How?! The probe was demolished- how did you-“
“Green— Green got us out in time..” Trevor sighed through his slowly calming gasps.
Lukas glanced up to Ranger, still clearly a bit waterlogged and exhausted. Ranger didn’t say anything, he just scooted over and fell on Lukas in a hug as well.
However, another explosion soon snapped everyone back to their senses. Trevor gasped and got up.
“We need to outrun them! We can’t do anything else!” Ranger jumped in, getting up and helping Lukas to his feet. Lukas stumbled a bit, sore from the explosion and still shaky from near drowning.
“We can out maneuver them!” Trevor said, running into the main control room and jumping down into the pilot’s seat, “We’ll wind through the rocks, and once we’re home we can lose them completely!”
Ranger and Lukas ran in to help as Trevor set the boat moving. The sub dove down, deeper near the ocean floor, weaving through rocks and avoiding torpedoes. Explosions rocked the boat occasionally and the pressure once again began knocking bolts from their sockets. Water leaked through again, and Ranger immediately got on fixing that. Lukas went to check on Orion, who hadn’t left the room. He was holding onto a pipe for some sort of balance, and the look of pure relief upon seeing Lukas was surprising. Lukas pushed through the ridiculous amount of water in the room and got to him.
“I’m sorry, I lost the medkit— the probe was destroyed—“
Orion took Lukas’s hands and shook his head, cutting him off.
“We need to go. Block this room off. There’s a hole somewhere- it’s flooding faster.”
Lukas nodded and didn’t waste any time. He picked Orion up from off the bed, lightly startling him, and quickly got out of the room. He set him down against the back wall and went back to the door, shoving against it with all of his strength and pushing it shut. He spun the lock, blocking off the room and stopping the flooding.
Meanwhile Trevor was still trying to steer the boat out of harms way. Soon enough, they left the rocks, diving deeper and disappearing against the ocean floor. Trevor b-lined it out into the ocean. By now the uboat was reaching speeds it never had gotten to before, going up to near 100 mp/h. The uboat was struggling to stay together, but was making it straight out into the open ocean.
It dodged torpedoes that smashed into the ground nearby, and it stayed swerving near the rocks. Soon enough, it was free in the deep water of the ocean, and dove down quickly into the dark pits beneath, disappearing completely.
The American Hunter Killers lost sight of the Ender Dragon, the depth and blockage stopping the radar’s detection. They got out ok, and the Ender Dragon eventually slowed to an easy speed.
“We’re almost to our destination now.. if we stay hidden deep, we should be able to make it easy.. Maybe about an hour?” Trevor reported to the others.
“Alright.. Good..” Ranger sighed and dropped down sitting in the five inch deep puddle that had filled the control room. Orion was sat limp against the wall, hand over his still bleeding side. Lukas knelt beside him, still obviously unable to hide his bits of guilt.
“It’s okay,” Orion signed to him shakily, “At the base— there’s help.”
“Still—“
“Shut up, L. You saved T’s life. I don’t care about the probe. You saved my little brother, that’s what I care about. Thank you.”
Hunter Killer Killers
The Leader managed to stumble into the room from the bunks, grabbing a good look at the chaotic scene. Ranger was struggling to control the sinking ship, steering it towards the closest safe spot they could find this close to the coast. Trevor was trying to block off the holes and fix the leaks in the hull, meanwhile Lukas was doing the same. Leader was struggling to stay standing, but went over to Ranger to try and assist. There wasn't much on the radar besides the incoming shells and the three blatent Hunter Killers on their tail. The alarms were blaring and Trevor was nearly in tears.
"Leader!" Leader heard Lukas call out in his actual voice from where he was working, and he turned to acknowledge.
"W- What are you doing up? You're going to hurt yourself worse!"
Leader sighed and quickly signed a reply.
"I need to help, or we all die."
With that, Leader went on his way, past Lukas and past Trevor. He stopped by the doorway on the other side of the cabin.
"On my signal, fire at the Killers. Fire with everything we've got. Get us to the rocks, hit the button on my command. I'll do the rest."
"But Leader-- None of the weapons are--"
"Do it."
Leader turned to go, and he shoved open the door behind him, pushing past the thick blockage of water.
"Hey, wait!" Lukas leapt down from where he was balancing as Leader stumbled off into another room. Leader went right to the weapons cabin, getting to work immediately. He tried to hoist up a torpedo, yet doing it on his own rendered nearly impossible. There was only a light budge before Leader nearly collapsed from effort. He was already breathing heavily and could feel his side lightly bleeding once again.
When Lukas followed him in, Leader expected another scolding that he would yet again ignore, but that wasn't the case. Lukas was obviously against the ridiculous efforts, but ran over to help. Lukas took most of the weight of the missile, and Leader helped him lift it into its slot, together getting it done and sliding it into the cabin. They shut the first loading door, moving onto the next torpedo.
Together they got four torpedoes loaded and ready for firing, both exhausted in the end. Leader was leaning against the hull, panting as his heavy bleeding was made known through the waters sudden color change. However, he still wasn't done. He searched around in the water, pulling a wrench from underneath and slamming it against a pipe with all the strength he had left.
Ranger recognized the signal, quickly turning for the rocks that were blocking the opposing missiles, and heading around before pressing the flashing purple button. Alarms blared as the four torpedoes fired from the U-boat. They went straight for the American Hunter Killers. The first hit successfully, blowing up the nose of the sub and instantly causing it to sink. The next followed the same way on the second sub, sending it down as well. The third missed, just grazing the last, largest sub as it went past.
However it quickly u-turned in the water, coming back around and crashing into the sub from the back just as the fourth torpedo blew up the front. All three subs went down, sinking to the bottom of the ocean floor as the explosions went quiet.
Leader glanced up to Lukas, who was panting and still shaking from exertion. Leader had a relieved look, not hard this time, much more thankful towards his ally. Lukas went over to him, helping him move and trying to get him back to the cabin. Leader tried to follow, but ended up simply collapsing into Lukas's arms. This genuinely surprised Lukas, feeling the weakness of the usually strong Leader as he fell limp against him. He nearly carried him the entire way back to the cabin, trying to control the new bleeding with a hand and feeling an odd sort of worry for him.
Lukas was continously reminded that this man was a terrorist, obviously not hesitant to kill, however yet he still didn't feel afraid to be helping him, or touching him. At that moment, this terrorist Leader was just another scared person, doing his best to keep himself and his crew, his brothers, alive. Seeing things from another perspective set things up differently for Lukas, and if anything he was understanding.
Lukas helped Leader back to the bunks, helping him lay back down. Once Leader was out of his hands, he began to use sign again.
"Stay here now. Rest. I and the twins will take care of the boat the best we can. I'll assist Trevor with the leaks. But don't you get out of this bed. Once the water clears I'll be back to take care of that wound."
Leader didn't argue this time. He only gave Lukas a thankful nod. However before Lukas could stand to leave, Leader grabbed him by the wrist to catch his attention once again.
"L. U. K. A. S?" he spelled out in sign, catching Lukas completely off guard. He almost felt his heart skip a beat, and he tried to hide his panicked expression. Leader could tell he guessed correctly.
"I know those eyes. But you're not my Lukas. You're someone else. You sign, for starters," Leader signed and waited for Lukas's inevitable nod.
"Why do you keep helping me? Why did you subject yourself to come with us?" Leader suddenly changed in expression, almost desperate for an answer, "You didn't need to come.. You didn't need to help us, or save us. You didn't need to save me, so many times.. So, why?"
Admittedly, Lukas didn't know why, and at this point, the secrets were clearly useless.
"I don't know," Lukas replied, "I feel like I should. Like it's right. I think it is right.. You saved me, as well, remember. You didn't need to do that either. So why did you?"
"I owed you."
"And I owed you."
"Is this a new game? Are we only going to go back and forth in this?"
Lukas smiled under his mask, and Leader could see in his eyes the light bit of amusement.
"It's very likely."
Leader hesitated for a moment, before spelling out something new in sign.
"O. R. I. O. N."
Lukas seemed confused, until Leader pointed to himself, tapping his finger against his chest.
"You? You are Orion?"
Leader nodded.
"Well... Orion. Why do you tell me-"
"I trust you. I've.. Never trusted before. It's weird, but.. It's not bad. You are an ally to the Witherstorm.. I've trusted you with my identity. And my life. You've proven that to me."
Lukas blinked in surprise at the comment. Of all things that had just happened, this one appeared to be the strangest.
"... To be fair, you've done the same," Lukas replied after a moment, "But you should rest now.. Enough talk.. We'll talk later, when you're not in an awful condition. For now, sleep, and the twins and I will repair the ship."
Leader nodded, this one obviously in dismissal, and Lukas left the room. Everything that had just happened hit him like a tidal wave. He wanted to lie down and sleep himself, but glancing around at the twins trying to fix the ship reminded him that there was still a bit of work to be done before he could rest again.
and everyone's favorite Leader from SAAU for daily needs
he's an idiot and took a hit for a stranger
which is something terrorist leaders shouldn't do
but luckily he's human and cares and we love him
