I am sitting outside at Hidden Falls. I have withdrawn from pressures and problems and tasks that won't withdraw from me. A full and generous silence surrounds me. The warmth of the sun is soaking into my back. I have dozed several times. There is a whisper and rustling of leaves overhead as a soft wind moves about me. Three red headed woodpeckers are beating a rhythmic staccato in a tree 20 feet from me. I am again impressed with what a generous and full creation is given us by Creating and Living God. It is full of goodness and beauty. I believe more now than when I started this rest that the life Jesus came to give is more abundant and more extravagant than any other way. I am thinking of the words of George Fox, who urged his friends to take into the noisy and problem-laden world the rest and quiet and peacefulness of this moment.
