lizzy i’m panting like a Dean in heat over your rabbit!Dean and dog!Sam post im obsessed. I need more of this au. What hybrid is John? Mary? Benny or Ruby? Also I’m now envisioning overgrown puppy Sam getting in trouble and scruffed by Dean who he is already much larger than. Hilarious image. And Sam “accidentally” whipping people with his tail when they get too close to Dean or just when they annoy him. Dean’s ears twitching towards Sam whenever he’s talking regardless of the direction Dean is facing. I could go on there’s so much to do with this and I want all your thoughts!!

hi, sable!! happy birthday!! 🥳 <3
i will warn you now........i went too hard categorizing other characters...but i would love to talk about rabbit!dean/dog!sam more!! yippee!
we're throwing genetics out of the window!! anyone can have a baby w anyone and give birth to anything! let's get crazy!!
john is HARD. i want to go ram. because while the horns and the aggressive behavior is foremost, he is at the end of the day a prey animal. he is the one who dies/is sacrificed, and starts mary's deal in motion. there's a lot of hierarchy in flocks, and john's whole thing requires a very clear distribution of responsibility/power. the flock is something to be dominated, not negotiated with. but they're very intelligent and complex, and they actually make the friendliest lambs. which makes sense with his spiral after mary dies. this would also go towards explaining rabbit!dean (a herd animal) being down with the hierarchy but dog!sam (wild dogs have a few pals but not packs and looser hierarchies) would rebel against john's pretty stringent rules. that would also make sam the only predator animal. a "freak" if you will. the implications!
mary is HARDER. i'm going bobcat. they're a lot more deadly than they look, they're extremely territorial and elusive. assuming that her family is also bobcats, they're a predator animal that "hide in plain sight" by covering their dens in moss and foliage. bobcats also mostly eat rabbits. which would be a lot of fun for the implications of dean missing his mom and being excited to be like her in this hunting legacy after he finds out she's a hunter bc like...baby. you ARE the thing the life chews up and spits out. i wanted to go sheep bc john is a ram and she is literally the sacrificial lamb that becomes perfect after she dies but i CAN'T. mary is not a domesticated animal like sam, dean, and john. she is HUNGRY and she is ALONE and she HAS TEETH.
as for ruby, i thought entirely too much about this, and i think she'd be a bird, specifically a cuckoo. for one, she's not where she's supposed to be. her own people revile her (cuckoos don't fw their babies after they transplant them), and of course heaven/humanity hate her (the birds they're raised by can turn on them). she's a wolf in sheep's clothing. she wears your loved one's skin and asks you to tend to her. there's research recently that some species of cuckoo have evolved their feathers to look like birds of prey. this is interesting bc 1) she thinks/is trying to be a predator, but is way out of her depth and 2) her whole plan is to mimic dean and get sam to trust her. which works!
i think benny would be some kind of wolf. fiercely loyal and dean's natural predator, lol. like i'm thinking a really scruffy wolf with chunks missing from his ears. but he's protective, and a little sly, and what other animal could pack bond with a random human and angel-mid-breakdown like a wolf? inherently dangerous, but also a lot of ingrained social behavior, which is why benny is suave and goes out to have a regular life. also, this kind of plays with the canon idea that dean has "replaced" sam with benny as a 'better 'brother, because dean has "replaced" dog!sam with a 'better' wolf!benny.
but back to sam and dean! as i always go.
i am OBSESSED with the idea of rabbit!dean scruffing dog!sam. puppy!sam who isn't waiting for dean back at the grocery cart at the store bc he's wandered over to the school supply aisle and dean runs over and scruffs him and puppy!sam is wiggling and embarrassed but goes limp as soon as dean wraps his hand around the back of his neck.
sam splits up from john and dean on a hunt to ambush the creature from behind and dean has to reach UP to scruff him, even as john nods and approves his risky success.
dean gets pissed at a teenage sam and jumps over the motel bed to tackle him to the floor and scruff him and sam is screaming like a banshee and spitting and snapping until dean goes in with his teeth and bites him on the back of his neck and sam's entire body locks up.
dean still threatens him with it sometimes even as adults--he'll point at sam, or make a claw shape with his hand and sam's huge huge huge hand will clap over the back of his neck and he'll scowl.
sam's definitely a shaggy dog. mama i wanna pet that dawg voice. like i mentioned in the last post, he is lowkey wagging whenever dean walks back into a room, even if he only left for a few minutes. like just a little twitch back and forth.
bashful sammy getting scolded and his tails curls between his legs and his ears slump down in his hair and his head dips.
the image of sam hitting people with his tail whenever people get close to dean is hilarious to me. the waitress is flirting with dean at the table and she is getting hit repeatedly in the shin and it's dean's twelve-year-old little brother who looks up at her angelically but is absolutely smacking the shit out of her.
sam who awkwardly presses between dean and jo to get something on the counter behind them but his tail is up between them and they have to bend away to keep talking to each other.
bonus points if sam has no idea he's doing it.
sam makes a smart rebuttal to someone and turns around and his tail absolutely whacks the hell out of the person as he walks away, and they stumble a bit.
SCREAM SOBBING AT DEAN'S EARS. dean's ears twitch towards sam no matter WHERE is in the room. he can hear sam miles away, if it's quiet enough. they used to play that game whenever they were younger, where sam would go hiding, and dean would find him based on the sound of his breathing or his quiet giggles or his heartbeat.
sam gets taken on a hunt, and dean tells dad to shut the fuck up--the first and only time ever--and john is so shocked that he does it and dean slams his hands over his eyes and focuses and his ears slowly swivel, and he points in a specific direction without ever opening his eyes and says "three heartbeats, one of them is sam's."
his ears swivel around when sam is in the room when he's doing anything, even when dean is sleeping. sam found his out because he noticed dean's ears twitching on the pillow when he gets up to go to the bathroom. they don't move a centimeter when dad gets up.
sam uses this to his advantage when he's pissed at dean. when they're sitting in the car or alone in the motel room and ignoring each other, sam will go out of his way to make little sniffling noises or cough or clear his throat. dean's ears will swivel, and his scowl will get more and more pronounced, until finally he snaps and they end up wrestling until they've made up.
he also thinks it's really endearing when he's standing behind dean chatting and one of dean's ears will twitch back to face him as dean nods along. it always makes him feel seen, that his big brother is absolutely paying attention.
also i've been thinking of monsters and baddies grabbing dean's hair or chin to force them to look at him, and thinking about someone taking his ears in one hand and yanking them, and dean lets out the worst, most teeth-grinding shriek that makes sam start biting. sam thing with people stepping on sam's tail when he's knocked to the ground and you can hear the crunch of those small little bones under boots and sam wails and dean starts clawing.
bonus that dean LOVES sam's ears. they're floppy and get lost in his hair sometimes (which is partially why dean always threatens to cut it off), but he gets cuteness aggression when sam gets excited and his ears perk up and his head tilts and starts trying to wrangle him. he doesn't really think about why, but sammy's sensitive ears are something they have in common!!! <3 little big ear boys <3
bonus bonus that since domesticated dogs and rabbits both like cuddling, they will sit in a puddle of blankets for hours and groom each other, laying on top of each other or curled around each other and get so happy that their eyes get droopy and they'll fall asleep like that.
also both rabbits and dogs are known for getting into bonded pairs, so lol "do not separate" applies to both of them.
also also i'm very taken by the image of dog!sam going up to rabbit!dean who is doing something else or talking to someone else, and as soon as dean sees him his ears shoot up and he smiles and sam bursts into a grin and his tail starts wagging....just...they're soft 🥺
i also just found out that rabbits' scent gland for marking territory is under their chin 🥺 bunny!dean ruffling his chin through sam's hair before sending him off to school and sam wriggling and protesting. 🥺
but dog!sam who also rubs his face in all of dean's clothes and does a biiiiiiig stretch and HAS to be chewing on something or he'll go crazy.
anyway!!!! i hope you have a spectactular birthday and anytime you want to talk about these boys PLEASEEEEE drop me a line!!! clearly, i'll talk forever, lol!!!
