Sable Belgrave, seeing a blonde girl in a red dress: is that literally the only girl 😯
tell me about your OCs..
okay so there’s like eight main ones and a bUNCH of others, but i’ll just limit this to the eight main ones:
the main main is Grace Morgan, a super cool goth witch! she travels around the valley country of Inglenook in search of mysteries to solve, spooky places to explore, and people to save or protect. her familiar is spiders (and ravens and horses but mainly spiders), so she can use them as spies to a limited extent. she has fibromyalgia and uses a cane a bunch, but not as her wand, since that would require her pointing the cane at stuff and that would defeat the whole purpose of a cane to begin with. she’s graceful to the point of seeming stiff but is actually a deeply emotional person who just has trouble expressing those emotions, only opening up about things other than anger around Certain People.
then there’s Gallo Belgrave, who is a gravedigger and necromancer, which here just means that he has a natural talent for sensing and communicating with spirits. Gallo works at the local graveyard as a gravedigger and really just wants to be a skeleton himself, you know? he is as much like a corpse as a living androgynous human can get, he smokes, he’s very bad at hygiene (for trauma reasons, though), often paints his face to resemble a skull, and has a long-lasting case of anorexia. his familiar is bats, so he can often be found playing with the bats who live in the graveyard’s church. early in the story, he inherits full ownership of the graveyard and decides to turn the crypt into a halloween-themed coffee shop and bakery, since he’s so good at baking and making coffee. Gallo is also a total puppy around Grace, like he adores this goth witch who wandered into his life one day.
there’s also Sable Belgrave, Gallo’s secret twin sister. she was supposed to be introduced early in the story but her arrival got pushed back much longer than I had wanted, so now she’s technically a secret…so let me tell you everything about her. she’s a vampire who’s very sadomasochistic, but in a way where she believes that’s a normal way of expressing love and affection, and really just likes it. she’s a corrupter of innocence, a torturer of the weak, and a hunter of prey. her favourite part of the body is the heart, both physically and metaphorically, and she is often seen wearing a pair of bright red heart-shaped sunglasses. Sable suffers from a long-term obsession with Gallo, believing herself to deserve his love after so long, but will occasionally develop obsessions for other people. her familiar is cats and one of her first acts in the story is acquiring a small army of cats to help her stalk Gallo.
then we have Griffin Haggard, a young boy who’s been socially isolated most of his life by his emotionally dependent mother. he gets into trouble a lot, almost always to be rescued by Grace - to the point where it’s theorised that he’s doing it to get rescued by her. eventually, after a string of outbursts, he meets Sable and is fascinated by her, becoming her partner in crime. his character is defined by emotional dependence, a search for independence, and the effects of being “raised” by three very different women on him.
we also have Victoria Craven, the heir of an important bloodline who wants nothing much to do with it. Victoria just wants to be a beautiful young actress forever, with her aesthetic very much evoking blonde bombshells of the american 50s - unfortunately, after murdering one of her costars, she is cursed with the form of a humanoid snake, ruining her career in Grimstead. her character arc is based around the meaning of beauty and monsters.
finally, in the main Grimstead cast, we have Callista Sinclair. Callista is a witch who owns a strip club and brothel called the Honeysuckle Lounge, which is staffed primarily by girls whom Callista rescues from unfortunate circumstances, gives employment to (if they want it; she will find other ways of helping them if they don’t want to work at the Honeysuckle), and trains as witches. Callista herself rose to power from unfortunate circumstances and developed a strong sense of loyalty toward others like her. while she has a wand of her own, Callista also likes guns and anything with a fancy, luxurious, and red or gold motif. her familiar is swans, and she demonstrates a similar lifelong loyalty to the girls she protects.
beyond Grimstead, the two main characters (and the final two of the eight) are the twins Tessa and Bellamy Prospero, redhead heirs of the Prospero bloodline, an important and influential family in Inglenook. Tessa is a very angry girl who frequently lashes out and gets frustrated easily, frequently found with a bottle of whiskey in her hand and a lighter in the other. she has a strong fondness for fire, which eventually leads to her becoming an elementalist, and the core of her story is going on a road trip with her brother to find some kind of peace in the fucked-up world she lives in.
Bellamy, meanwhile, is a bit softer and calmer. while on the outside, he is almost ruggedly masculine, even carrying a pocket knife and often seen unshaved, it’s just a facade to prevent himself from being bullied for wanting to be a princess like his sister. he wants to be pretty and soft and cute, and his character arc is about accepting himself and trying to present himself in the way that he wants to be seen. he also loves books and libraries and the things he’s researched have helped him and his sister survive on the road multiple times.
there’s a further list of all the characters in the Sorrows Of Blackwood universe (complete with faceclaims for them) here, although only two of those profiles are actually filled in at the moment.
honestly i just want to watch something that’s basically sable belgrave: the series
it’s a shame lana del rey’s jealous girl is an unreleased song because it is such a sable theme honestly
that girl with the big eyes and blood all over her face is honestly like...basically sable if sable were a harpy creature
that feel when you add so much plot to your story that you end up pushing back the introduction of one of your favourite and most important characters until really late in the story and you keep grabbing and clawing for any opportunity to have the character be a thing earlier than your new plot paradigm dictates
if looks could kill...
if I can't have you baby, no one else in this world can
happy sunday, @firecr0tch~ i drew you a sable?
