photomatts actions have alienated a majority part of the tumblr user base. I wonder if he understands why?
Trans women have been time and time again subjected to malicious hate campaigns through this website, and despite the victims reporting the harrassment, these blogs (usually created for the sole purpose of hate) typically go unpunished. When trans women are harrassed off the site the tumblr staff does nothing, but when the cis man in power recieves criticism over a wrongful termination that was motivated by transphobia the world stops spinning until he gets what he wants. The male fragility+transphobia/transmisogyny is so obvious with this one, I'm not shocked photomatts blog has reverted to PR responses, trying to dig in his heels and slap a bandaid on his mistake.
This is a site known for its acerbic and biting humor, for gods sake crab rave trends when people in power die! Threatening to get the FBI involved for a sarcastic comment speaks volumes to both his impression of trans women and his priorities while running a (debatably) successful site. The continuous apologising on his blog is both self-serving and condecending. Photomatt has repeatedly apologised to users being (rightfully imo) angry in his inbox, while never actually acknowledging what the behavior he was apologising for.
Apologise for what you did wrong (wrongfully deleting photos of a trans woman), and correct what you did wrong (restore her blog). Learning to apologise, mean it, fix it, then move on is one of the most basic social interaction we learns as humans. Through the ignorant and transphobic actions of a multi millionare, the self-proclaimed "queerest place on the internet" has made itself actively hostile towards an entire goddamn letter in the ancronym.
