For the ask meme, 9, 15 and 20.
Ahhhhhh hi!!!! It took me so long to see this, but here we go!
9: Do you set yourself deadlines?
Ya know I tried too at once point. I try to post two chapters a week when I’ve got a WIP out there, so now if I don’t have enough to post for at least 3 weeks I won’t start posting. I’m so crap at keeping writing deadlines lol. I need to get better at it.
15: Hardest verse to write?
Anything that isn’t the MCU. I wasn’t really into comics when I was younger, so anything I know is basically from the different Wikis and screenshots out there. I can do some animated series, but not competently.
20: Favorite character to write?
Hands down Tony Stark. I’ve spent so long watching him in the movies, and it became very clear early in that he was my favorite, because in some levels I understood him. Specially when Iron Man 3 hit, I had just come to terms with my own awful anxiety attacks, so I felt a huge bond there. Also I’m a sarcastic little shit. Tony Stark is my spirit animal, no lie, lol
@sabrecmc
This is gonna be messy but bear with me.
First I was struck viscerally by the emotion between the two in the movie. I've railed a lot at Steve for his actions in the movie and will continue to do so but its not like they were indefensible or not understandable. I knew where he was coming from, I just thought he made some spectacularly bad choices he deserved to be pulled up on. But as I get away from the movie and simmer down (lol) I can't say that he doesn't care about Tony. Who is the one to hear Tony out, even though he walks away angry? Who is the one to lower his arms when Tony offers help at the base, who is GLAD to see him? Who is the one who sends a letter, even a poorly worded one, at the end so Tony knows A) he's alright, B) he didn't do all this without a reason and C) he is sorry for what he did to Tony? Steve is a big emotional mess trying just a bit too hard to remain all Captain America, but he TRIES for Tony. That really strikes me.
And as for Tony, better posts than this one have covered everything he did for Steve and swallowing his anger and pride because of his belief in him.
But also, on a...meaner?...note? A more basic, grimy kind of note, I have said in the past that I think mcu tony has some trouble sometimes seeing Steve as a person. And I feel like that might some flak for this, but you get multiple comments from Tony about Howard talking about Steve and even in this movie when he talks about Steve kinda pissing him off but that they need Cap...I think Tony saw Captain America first and Steve second.
Tony turns to Cap, so many times over the course of the movies. It almost and probably is deliberate how many times *something will happen* and tony or iron man will bodily turn himself towards Steve, let alone figuratively. So at the end of CACW when he turns to Cap, and gets Steve, who breaks his heart...that's a make or break situation, and they broke.
But unlike in the comics, it doesn't feel like a wound that just keeps getting poked at. Tony and Steve have seen each other at their lowest now, they've seen the ugly insides, and they still want each other back. They have to set the break themselves and let it knit. They have to want it, and though we've received indications that Tony is the holdout on that front in IW, we also know that he kept that damn phone.
Even more petty, part of the reasons I have trouble shipping 616 Stony is that Tony will always think himself unworthy of Steve and honestly the comics have kinda rewarded this narrative, what with neither of them ever getting to discuss where everything went wrong, so status quo is still god and nobody ever learns anything. Its not a relationship dynamic I enjoy reading a lot of because one will always have power over the other whether they want it or not, no matter how much Steve loves Tony in return. That's...not gonna happen in MCU, at least not to me. Tony isn't going to sit around bemoaning how bad he is for Steve or how much better Steve is. The darkest parts of Steve have personally affected Tony now (and vice versa). He knows just how fallible and human Steve is. And I don't think that will demean or besmirch Steve in his eyes, Tony knows too much about trying and failing to do your best for that, in fact I think it would make Steve more real and complete to him. He's not some unobtainable object on a pedastal; he's real. Same with Steve for Tony, because I don't think he's free of the perception problem either. And I hate phrasing it like that, but sometimes the reason a person ships something aren't always pretty.
@sabrecmc @kindaoffkilter oh my gosh this is true... he does already know exactly what to do/where to go at that point in the movie so it's not that much of a stretch to imagine he had something ready for peter. thanks for the reminder!
My sister’s, @crazinessofalooney and I’s reaction seeing that Catching Lightning in a Bottle by @sabrecmc has updated.
