Hunting Grounds

The Prince’s chambers were vast and lonesome. Y’llarith had been away for some time now, and the lonely san’layn didn’t know where he’d gone. They had subjects and warm bodies at their fingertips, waiting to dote on them and keep them company - but Temperance could never demand such favors. It was their duty to keep their subjects company, and not vice versa. Besides, they had other companions readily available. 

Laying on their back, they loll their head o the side, facing the tall windows with their sheer curtains blowing softly in the Eversong wind. The mirrors along the opposite walls mirrored the windows perfectly. They couldn’t remember the last time they saw their own reflection. With a deep sigh breathed past unpainted lips, Temperance raises their wrist to their mouth. Canines pierce skin and sinks into their dead veins, pumping them full of venom. Sleep takes them. 

The Prince’s forest is vast and brimming with love. Every shadow has a mind of its own, always reaching out for more, snuffing out lights with an insatiable hunger. Unfathomable horrors live between the branches and roots, claiming the Forest as their own hunting grounds. And they love Temperance with all their existence. The Prince exhales a chuckle as they become surrounded by a thousand formless bodies, the children constantly shifting between predator and pray, real and unreal, dead and alive. Temperance had been horrified when they first laid eyes upon their creations - the strange creatures they had made with Sacerdos. They were filled with their own unending hunger and the Bishop’s endless love. Temperance felt nothing but fondness for them now. The sound of pleading whines fill the air, and the Prince knows what the dreameaters need. Rapier in hand and standing en pointe, Temperance gives the order. It is time to resume the hunt.
