The Place Where We Meet - Halsin x OC/Reader/You
She returned from her walk like mist returns to a river - unhurried, inevitable.
The moonlight gathered on her veils, soft as breath. Pale fabric, layered like water over skin, whispered around her ankles with each step. And though she made no sound, Halsin looked up before she arrived.
He sat beneath the elder tree, long legs folded, broad hands resting open on his knees. The lantern beside him had long gone out. He did not need light to see her. Not anymore.
She slowed. Watched him as he watched her.
And though his gaze was calm, still as stone -
Quiet awe. The kind that doesn’t blink, for fear it might wake a dream.
When she reached him, she did not kneel beside him.
She lowered herself into his lap, one leg resting on either side of his hips. As natural as a leaf finding its place on the water’s surface.
His breath caught, barely - a pause in the forest wind.
Her arms circled his neck, fingertips grazing the ends of his hair.
She pressed her nose gently to his. A kiss of air. A reverent touch.
Then their foreheads met - skin to skin, breath to breath.
No words yet. Just presence.
“There is devotion that burns, and there is devotion that blesses.
Tonight, I come with the second.”
He said nothing - not because he lacked words, but because silence felt sacred in her mouth.
She let her hands settle behind his neck. Let her weight rest fully against him, as if trusting his lap to be both altar and shelter. He did not move. Only let his palms find the small of her back - steady, warm, earth-true.
“I prayed today,” she murmured, lips brushing his temple.
The wind passed over them. A branch above released a single leaf - and it did not fall between them.
Because between them now, there was only truth. And a kind of holy stillness.
Halsin’s hands did not roam.
One at the small of her back, the other just beneath her ribs - where breath begins.
He did not speak yet. He felt her words first.
I prayed not to be loved. Only to love clearly.
They undid something old in him. They did not shattered it - they loosened it. Like roots slowly lifting stone, steady and sure over time.
He let his forehead press more fully against hers. Eyes closed now.
And in the stillness between them, he whispered -
not as a man seeking to impress, but as one returning an offering:
“I’ve heard many speak of love like it’s fire.
you carry it like water.”
Her lips curved slightly. He felt it against his skin.
“You do not scorch. You bless.
His voice faltered, not from fear but from reverence.
“I’ve walked through war and withered groves, held trees in their last breath, whispered to roots choking on sorrow -
but nothing prepared me for being seen.
Not by eyes that expect nothing back.”
She exhaled - not shakily, but deeply.
The kind of breath a woman releases when she realizes she no longer has to protect herself.
“And yet,” she whispered, brushing her fingers over the nape of his neck,
He opened his eyes then - and for once, his gaze did not carry the weight of leadership or wisdom.
Unarmored. Earth-brown, green and open as spring soil.
“Not forever. Not even for a vow.
She leaned forward, brushing her nose against his again.
A kiss nearly, but not quite.
An intimacy so patient, it felt like a sacred rite.
Not with urgency - but with recognition.
A kiss not taken, but given.
As if the forest itself held its breath - not out of shock, but deference.
And when they finally parted - no longer strangers to touch -
she stayed in his lap, head against his shoulder, veil sliding off one arm, letting skin meet skin.
Because some nights were not for flame or frenzy.
Some nights were for the wild peace of being held -
