  ‘ prior  incantato ’  :  three  letters  that  never  were  sent  &  one  that  did .

attempt   one  :         is   this   some   sort   of   joke  ?        (  prompted  after  receiving  a  letter  detailing  the  request  for  an  interview  via  owl .   bunched  up  into  a  ball  &  thrown  away  because  he  genuinely  thought  it  was  a  joke .  )attempt   two  :         didn’t   you   help   skeeter   with   her   articles   in   fourth   year  ?   you   could   have   at   least   matured   from   the   same   subject   matter  ,   you   know  .        (  again  bunched  up  &  thrown  into  the  bin  because  now  he  hoped  it  was  a  joke .   &  he’s  surprised .   &  confused .  )attempt   three  :         doesn’t   the   prophet   have   better   things   to   write   about  ?    or   shall   i   owl   in   last   night’s   shit   in   time   to   make   this   morning’s   headline  ?        (  nearly  sent  it  in .   with  said  attachment .   still  wonders  why  he  didn’t .  )

it  should  be  awkward .    in  the  least ,   it  should  be  tinged  with  a  silence  that  would  otherwise  be   unpleasant  ,   perhaps ,   but  nothing  near  morally  uncomfortable ,   nor  a  painstakingly  guilty  affair .    to  be  fair ,   THIS  isn’t  that  either ,   &  it  certainly  isn’t  something  he  would  have  predicted ,   had  he  been  given  sound  warning  beforehand  or  even  pardoned  a  single  thought  for  the  button - nosed  girl  who’d  once  tried  to  bargain  his  existence .     instead ,   he’s  annoyed  for  reasons  completely   ( or  in  the  slightest  partially )   unrelated  to  the  whole  giving  up  thing ,   &  justifiably so ,   HE  thinks ,   &  isn’t  that  just  a  thrilling  change  from  his  typical  spectrum  of  emotions  on  the  daily .
