in s2 ep19 hotch took the burnings very deeply. even in the first 15 minutes you could see from how he had to watch the woman die, it was almost like he took responsibility right off the bat. Gideon saw that- apologising to hotch and insisting to take the burning victim next. maybe hotch has some history with arson? idk.
