Question of the night: Should I eat dinner?
Pros: Food
Cons (and hear me out here): It’s really flipping cold and I’d have to get up and make something.
It’s a real conundrum.
Me: Ah yes gonna go on the tlou2 subreddit and talk to others who also liked the game / didn't hate it... It's gonna be a nice chill time and it's gonna be civil
The subreddit:
like....something like bojack is explicitly charted around the main character going from an uncaring damaged jerk to someone who gets slightly better, even if its by a millimeter over four seasons. And people like....actually call him out on shit and it’s actually framed as something effective to the audience and not just to the characters. They don’t necessarily let it slide because he’s a celebrity or whatever and like...when they do there’s always a consequence for that. It’s shown time and time again that when someone tolerates Bojack’s toxicity it ends up biting them in the ass and ruining a relationship, or hell even killing them. It sets up a situation where he needs to be better, and in season 4 recently you finally get to see some genuine change and it’s very gratifying. And....that’s just not a feeling i’ve ever gotten watching rick and morty tbh.
like i’m willing to give some leniency to r&m and believe that they’re setting something up and it just might not be there at this point (I can see potentially where they’re going and I really hope it goes that way) but the attitudes of the fans are kind of forcing my opinion to come to the surface here. it seems like anyone who criticizes it or compares it unfavorable gets accused of “not understanding” like believe me kids, I understand, I’m just not as impressed as you are.
are we gonna do a victory lap or do we not deserve it
reached the point of sheer delusion where i'm brainstorming dark academia au durgestarion . hmm. hmm. and maybe there's still vampires and spooks you know . just things that make you go hmm.
At this point, the right is using "woke" so much that, in the context of popular culture, it doesn't really meant what it's supposed to anymore. "Woke" conjures the concept of being a whiny, petulant child when they use it - and that's not at all what it means.
People who've used it to virtue signal - often with actual good intentions, unfortunately - only exacerbate(d) the problem, because the right can look at hollow "activism" and point like, "THIS IS WHAT WOKES DO, DO YOU SEE HOW PATHETIC?? WE'RE SO MUCH BETTER THAN THEM HEE HEE HO HO."
....there's a bitter fucking irony to that: a majority demographic of white people misusing an AAVE word........and twisting it for racist reasons..... .. .. .while often refusing to openly admit that they're racist..... .. .. . And they aren't just being racist with it - they're being all sorts of bigoted.
The right wing of American politics is waging a cultural civil war - twisting language out of shape and using it for nefarious purposes. The worst of them are preparing for the apparent possibility of a real one.
