Can you write a scenario where Smoke teaches his s/o how to fight/defend themselves?
A/N: Hi Anon! Thank you for requesting this, I really hope you like it! I'm experimenting with my own writing right now. So please if any of you have feedback I would be very appreciative! I really want to get better and improve on character writing.
Tomas’ eyes hardened over your body, the bandages wrapped around your arms and face, the bruises that scattered all over your body, his hands shook and anger burning inside him had seeped out his body in the form of smog.
“You shouldn’t have been there.” He mutters over you, “... had I have been faster…”
His eyes flashed to the last memory of you the way your eyes shined, the expression on your face changed from speaking to him to a look of shock. But before Tomas could ask, you pushed him out of the way to receive the surprise blow from a Lin Kuei assassin. Tomas’ memories blurred out, all he could feel was anger and resentment. When he came to he was covered in blood, his eyes pierced his enemies bodies with disgust, before running to where your body had laid.
A new anxiety had send chills down his spine as he sees your chest spilling, his mind raced as he quickly picked you up, ripping a large piece of his grey uniform to place it on your chest to stop the bleeding and ran as fast as he could to get help.
Tomas’ mind swirled with different possibilities, had he made a different choice would you have avoid harm? He cursed himself for letting his guard down, the both of you weren’t far from the Shirai Ryu compound. Was he weak? If he couldn’t protect you from harm, how could he protect others in the Shirai Ryu? Or Earthrealm? Tomas could feel the breeze of his smoke powers growing as his mind becomes muddled with doubt as grey clouds started to appear.
“Brother.” A voice called out, Tomas looked up to see Kuai Liang, his face expressed a stern look as he walked towards him. Tomas took a deep breath, trying to get his head to focus, his smoke magic started to vanish as he gained a clear concious.
“I understand your anger Tomas, but it is important that it does not consume us.” Kuai Liang reasons, “I know, (Name) would not be pleased to see you like this.”
Tomas grit his teeth, “I know, Kuai Liang, but how can I get past this?! I was trained to protect, and I couldn’t even protect them.” Tomas’ eyes glanced back at your body, the wounds and the guilt he was feeling in his heart. Tomas caresses your cheek, his stomach was turning watching you lay in bed fighting for your life.
“They ended up getting hurt to save me.” Tomas hissed, ”I was weak.”
Kuai Liang puts his hand on Tomas’ shoulder, he grips it hard. Tomas could feel Kuai Liang sharing his frustration.
“I know, I understand the frustration you are feeling. But instead of dwelling on it, we must push forward, Tomas. We are fighting a war right now.”
Kuai looked at your face and his eyes softened, he cared about you like family, he could see the effect you had on Tomas, every smile and laugh. You motivate him to improve, the happiness you bring to his brother when he’s with you. Kuai Liang would always hear laughter escaping from the both of you or witness the look of longing on Tomas’ face when they would leave for missions. The silence in the room was a cruel reminder of what was at risk.
“This will never happen again.” Kuai Liang promised, giving Tomas hope and a fire to push forward, Tomas nods, staring at your face as a vow that he will protect you by making sure you will be able to defend yourself.
Months have gone by after your recovery when you were cleared by the hospital Tomas dedicated his time into training you. In the early mornings, you dedicated yourself to cardio training around the Shirai Ryu compound, and then hours upon hours of martial arts training.
The shift in Tomas’ attitude alarmed you, you noticed the hardness in his eyes when speaking to you, detached he was in his lessons. You never complained, you understood this was for your benefit, Tomas is a skilled assassin, and training beyond your limits was a part of being in his world, the scar on your chest was proof of the risks.
However, in the back of your mind it worried you after his training sessions, his mind was always far away from you. He kept his distance, he went on more missions, the compound was quieter than before. Even Kuai Liang looked concerned and would try to talk to Tomas but he would assure his brother that nothing was wrong.
The kick to your stomach almost winded you as your body shook, Tomas standing in front of you with a neutral expression.
“You are telegraphing your punches, (Name)!” Tomas shouts, “You are being too predictable.”
The speed of his steps made your mind spin as he puts his hands together to summon his smoke magic to create a distraction as you weren’t able to see him. Tomas comes from behind, grabs your arm and lightly twists it so that you kneel before him, and the smoke clears instantly.
“I Concede.” You declared.
You watch as Tomas lets go of your arm, you pull back to stretch it to ease the muscles. You stand up and watch Tomas staring at the floor, his mind seemed clouded, his eyes darting to the floor as if he could burn holes in them.
“Hey Tomas.” You called out, walking towards him and holding his hand, “…Are you okay?”
His eyes widen, showing a shocked expression Tomas wants to show vulnerability to you, but in his heart he still feels the swarming pain of what happened that day. He sees your face and imagines the pained expression, the way your body was pushed to the ground and the blood that spilled out. Tomas takes his hands away from yours and clenches.
“(Name), you need to take training more seriously.” He commands abruptly, you stared back at him feeling the tension as he continues, “If this was an attack, you would have been in worst condition or-”
“Tomas.” You called firmly, “Just hold on a second… Can we talk about this?” You tried to be calm about this, but that only fueled his frustration. Ever since you left the hospital, you acted normal, you didn’t cry, or get upset, and it infuriated him. Did you not value your life as he did? He could feel his emotions starting to spill out, the black smoke emulating his body and his breathing became shallow. The smoke swirled around him causing the windows to rattle and items off the wall to fall over, the smell of burning wood was starting to fill your lungs as you covered your mouth.
You, fearing for his well-being, grabbed him by his face, “Tomas, breathe!” You warned, “You need to calm down.” Tomas backs away from you, realizing his anger is getting the better of him he grabs his head in frustration and takes a moment to breathe. Tomas slowly concentrates on taking control of himself.
“Why are you not angry about this?” He questions, “(Name), do you not take your life seriously? I won’t always be here to protect you. Do you not understand the severity of what happened?!”.
“Of course I’m angry!” You screamed back, Tomas eyes lit up seeing your face, the way your eyebrows furrowed, your eyes shot up. “You don’t think I’m not angry that I almost lost my life? I still have bruises and scars that I look at when I get up in the morning after months of recover!”
Tomas looks away, his stomach drops when you pull down your shirt to show the large scar that was carved into your chest.
“I think about that attack every day, but I want to get better. Tomas, we are at odds with Bi Han and the Lin Kuei…But I can’t just let my anger fester inside me.” You explained, “I accept that I will be a target, there are no exceptions of casualties in war.”
Tomas grits his teeth hearing this reality, he grew too comfortable with the thought that he would always be there for you, his attachment to you was his greatest motivation, but it also blinded him to a deadlier possibility. However, the wall he had put up to protect his heart had also pushed you away from him, not seeing clearly what you were going through or what you were feeling.
He dreams at night of a calmer time where he doesn’t have to fight anymore, where he can come home and see your face, let his guard down, and come into your arms and focus on the happiness that was a long time coming. Tomas’ anger and guilt eat at him, you are his future, his motivation for his cause. Tomas felt like a fool for not communicating his feelings sooner or showing more concern for your well-being, he can’t bring himself to look at you in the eye.
“Tomas, can you please look at me?” You begged.
He looks at you, and seeing the sadness in your eyes starts to make his heart melt, he feels so powerless against you, and acknowledges that he is hurting you. The way you looked at him made him feel small, a look that can bring him to his knees. He takes a moment to breathe as his smoke magic completely vanishes, Tomas unclenches his fists and his face shows a calmer reflection, you walk towards him holding him in your arms for the first time, since you’ve woken up, you stare up at him.
“Tomas I haven’t heard you laugh in the past 3 months of training, all you talk about is training, we haven’t had one conversation where I feel like you’re…yourself. I know you feel guilty for what happened but, I need you, you need to give me your presence both body and mind…Lately, your mind is so far away… it’s like you’re not really here.”
Tomas frowns, he wraps his arms around you, a stronghold as if to never let you go. “I’m sorry (name),” he whispers, he sees the toll his neglect has on you, he sees how much you needed him and where he has failed. He holds your chin with his fingers, leaning down to kiss you, your arms wrapped around his neck as you feel his soft lips, your heart quickens as you savor him.
Tomas missed the small sounds you make when he touches you, the look of love and anticipation in your eyes when you stare at him. He missed how soft your body felt on his, as he roamed his hands down your back… He missed every single part of you.
After a couple of minutes, you both separate and take a breath, “I am truly sorry (Name.) I was a fool.” Tomas sighs, “You are everything to me. I never want anything to happen to you, and if it did I…” He stops himself as he does not want to visualize the thought. “I would do whatever it takes for your safety, and I want every possibility for you to survive and fight...”
You lovingly touch his shoulder, “Tomas, I’m not going anywhere, I want to be your equal and fight by your side.”
Tomas kisses your forehead, the resolve and the strength reassures him that you will be okay, that you will keep pushing past adversity, he can see you fight as a warrior, and as someone who can bring victory to their cause.
“I will always support you. I want to have a future with you.” he declared, as he smiled at you, you sighed in relief it’s been the first time you’ve seen him happy in a long time. He gets back into a fighting position and stares at you with determination in his eyes.
“Let’s get back to training, you are doing well. Keep this up and then we will bring you to weapon training.” Tomas’ declares. You nod with a new fire in your heart, you are determined to prove yourself as a warrior and build a stronger bond for a brighter future.
