So usually I don’t comment on political issues on social media because as a nurse my opinions tend to not align with the religious zealots. That in turn could affect my job opportunities. But I can no longer stand by and watch. So here goes.

The fact that the government wants to control a woman’s body is disgusting. In fact the most disgusting part is that if a woman or young girl is raped they think “it is God’s will”. Let me tell you something. In the Scripture rape was recognized as a VIOLENT CRIME. It is ON PAR with MURDER. So all of you that think it is God’s will, think again because it was a crime according to the Father’s Holy Bible. And most often that crime resulted in a death penalty. It’s not God’s will, it’s your twisted religious mind cutting and pasting parts of the Bible to fit what you want it to say. Now I understand not all people who follow religion are like this, so don’t think I’m attacking everyone who goes to church or reads the Bible. I do these things too, I was raised in a community to do this as well.

The next issue is that women are not allowed to have abortions. Yes you read that correctly. NOT ALLOWED. There are now laws against this. I am a pro-choice individual. And before you attack calling me horrible names like “baby killer” I just want to say that I do not agree with abortion. I don’t always think it is the correct response. But that is the point of being pro-choice. I want women to have the CHOICE on what to do with their bodies. In nursing school we are taught we need to give our patients autonomy. This basically means we give them the right to make choices about their own body. Whether they want to donate organs, donate blood, have CPR or intubation, or whether they want to continue care. If a patient spells it out that they want certain things done then you listen to them! They don’t want a medication, okay that’s your right to make that choice even though it has side effects. That means of their child, family member, lover ask us to force that pill down their throat, we don’t do it. Because it’s the patient’s choice.

You should not get a choice in what a woman does to her body. You should not force a woman to carry a child she will hate. “But wait, what about adoption?!” Have you ever looked at the foster system? Have you seen how crappy some of their situations can be? Have you ever though “ I think to be a supporter of pro-life, I’m going to go adopt that 13 year old who everyone passes up because they deserve a better life.” If that was how our system worked, sure that would be amazing. But it’s not. All these laws will do is cause “backyard” abortions that put the mother’s life at risk. Where is your pro-life choice for the woman? Doesn’t she get to live too? Or do you just want her to be a baby machine like a tired, over impregnated dog in a puppy mill? If so, why not just throw your mother, wife, sister, daughter, niece and grandmother into a cage and only let them out to deliver a sick child. Yes I went there. That’s what you are saying we should do. Give women no choice in their body or their lives. We are nothing more than property right? And you wonder why we support strong women like Hilary Clinton, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and so many others who are working for a better life.

And last but not least, why don’t we treat gun laws like we do abortion laws? If we so heavily enforced those laws maybe we would be a better country. The United States of America has never been a great country. We are founding on hate, oppression, slavery, and war. How can you ever hope to be a great country if we never progress towards the future. Maybe you should listen to the women, children, minorities, immigrants, and actually Americans (NATIVE Americans) and fix this damn world.
