Curiousity

Sephiroth rang the doorbell of the Professor's apartment, feeling physically sick at the thought of having to escort the scientist to Wutai. 

He was a 1rst Class SOLDIER. He could have refused this PRIORITY mission. He had wanted someone else to take this mission. Anyone, he couldn't care less who: Turk or SOLDIER - competent or incompetent, it didn't matter. 

Then why did I accept? He couldn't care for the man's safety. If he would die, he wouldn't mourn. No, he refused that. Did he maybe hope he could let the scientist get hurt in some way? Admittedly, it was tempting to let Professor Hojo get hurt outside of his own environment of brightly lit cold laboratories, here, on Sephiroth's terrain of battlefields and hidden enemies he could make a mistake.

No. He will notice. He notices everything. As soon as we would be back in the lab, I would feel the consequences of my 'forgetfulness.'  He is invincible. I must protect him for the duration of my mission but why did I accept?

He rang the doorbell again. It was tempting to look through the glass. He waited. He took one step to the side, and tried to peek through. He couldn't see a thing.

Footsteps.

He inhaled sharply as the usual tension of being anywhere nearby the Professor took over his body. Near-suicidal obedience clawed into his mind, as submission was the most painless route to self-preservation. The door opened and Sephiroth clenched the mission papers in his hand. Black on white letters summoned Hojo immediately to Wutai to assist in countering Genesis' degradation process as the redhead was no longer able to travel.

The door handle was rusty on the outside, and the paint flaked like Sephiroth's courage: old, weary, never patched up, and without a solid primer base to smooth out the wood's natural irregularities.

Cameras in the lobby sent an alert to the ever-busy Central AI, who turned her attention from an on-going cooperative test with Blue and Orange, reluctant as she pulled up the feed in question. Much to her unbridled dismay, a man in a lab coat--a scientist--stood on her facility, breathing, observing, existing, living. That wouldn't do. Was he another scientist she had missed, much like the ever elusive Rattman? If he was, the man was hardly intelligent to simply stand about in the open as such, and visibly elderly. Not exactly durable. Pathetic.

She accessed the public announcement system for the lobby, speaking in sardonic tones as she greeted, "Hello. Welcome to the Aperture Science Enrichment Center. If you are incompetent, elderly, or irradiated in any way, it's requested that you turn around and leave, then send someone back in your place for testing. Your cooperation is appreciated."

Cerberus really had to wonder what was about this modern holiday that always brought droves of damned souls down into the pits of their eternal torture, even though he was rightly too busy weeding out those who didn't belong versus those who did. The guardian was beyond annoyed and tired of dealing with live souls, and so when more showed up, saliva actually dripped from his jaw. A nearly deranged look passing over his features as he snarled.
