so I've been wondering this for a while, and while I like see the problem obviously, I kinda don't see why people find an issue with pearls being like objects because I feel like it's supposed to be fucked up? it's not supposed to be portrayed as okay and all that jazz. do you have anything like you personally think about this? no judgement or hate or anything here just genuinely confused!!

hey! yeah, i personally do think the purpose was to have pearls be treated like objects, and i would personally be okay with that being in the show if they didn’t glamorize it, like with the whole musical number in that will be all

i feel like the last comment on this post summarizes it the best. a sizable chunk of the fandom kind of contributes to this aspect as well, what with the whole diamonds x pearls thing.

pearls being objects could have been a clever narrative but i feel like it just falls flat/contradicts itself.
