Today, folks, we are thinking about that line in “The Puppetmaster” when Toph says “Maybe the moon spirit just went bad,” because this means that no one told Toph what happened in the North Pole. I mean, it’s not like she would have noticed when the moon disappeared, and even if she was told when it happened, she would have to assume that her new friends were involved with the moon’s brief disappearance. Even taking into account the fact that it isn’t too far a jump to make that the Avatar was involved, Toph very rarely asked about her friends’ adventures before she joined them, figuring that she’d find things out if they were necessary.
My point is, though, that Aang and Katara aren’t talking about it, because they don’t want to upset Sokka, and probably because it was a traumatizing experience for both of them, too. And, as we know, Sokka bottles up all of his emotions and doesn’t want to bother anyone with his problems, especially internal ones. But since Toph doesn’t even know about Yue, Sokka must not have even mentioned her for months, except when he was talking to Suki that one time. This is, like, a hugely major thing that happened to him, and he just isn’t talking about it, probably because he doesn’t want to burden his friends with it, and also because he doesn’t want to confront the memory.
I’m just... emotional for him. Poor kid. Needs some support. Hopefully he’s able to talk to Katara privately about it eventually, but I’m guessing he didn’t even do that, knowing how he bottles everything up so tightly.
