most of the muscle hijackers were recruited from their "jobs" at kandahar airport, which was mostly AQ controlled. tawfiq bin attash (better known as khallad) managed to convince saeed al-ghamdi, who was waiting to be sent to chechnya, to join the manhattan mission. later, saeed convinced ahmed al-ghamdi, and so on.
