HELLO ORCA CONGRATS//hugs you!!! ;w;! May I request SaeRyou pool lifeguards AU~?
Of course you may~ I’m sorry if I accidentally call Ryou ‘Ryoma’, it’s a hard habit to break…
They’re working at a kids camp or something….
The sun beat down on Ryou as he sat in the lifeguard chair, glaring at the children in the pool splashing around and being noisy. It was days like these that he hated having long hair! It stuck to any skin it touched, making his neck prickle and back itch. His last hair tie had snapped this morning as he’d been putting his hair up in a ponytail and no matter how hard he’d looked, he couldn't find another one.
When he’d first walked out from the changing rooms, the little girls had told him he looked like a princess, which only made is mood worse. He’d given them as much of a smile as he could muster and then stomped over to the lifeguard chair, where he’d now been sitting all morning.
On the other side of the pool, a small girl slipped over and banged her knee on the tiles around the pool. There was a split seconds pause where Ryou hoped that she just got up and carried on playing with her group of friends, but then her face screwed up and she started bawling. Ryou got to his feet and started climbing down, but by the time he’d reached the ground Saeki had reached the little girl and was comforting her.
Ryou decided that the girl didn't need two lifeguards, so climbed back up to his seat. He didn't quite get Saeki. He got along with everyone. There didn't seem to be anyone that annoyed him and wasn't treated to one of his charming, easy smiles. The children loved him and he was always followed around by a small group of him. Itsuki had called them Saeki's ducklings and the name had stuck. Right now, the ducklings were crowded around Saeki and the crying girl, trying to comfort her. From what he could see from his seat, the girl had only bumped her knee, there was no blood anywhere.
He realised he'd been staring at Saeki for a few minutes now and tore his eyes away to check that no one was drowning in the pool. It must be the heat, he told himself, it's making me distracted.
His eyes flicked up to Saeki again, who was helping the girl to her feet, she was smiling now. Stupid handsome Saeki, Ryou thought, stupid heat.
There was a small cough from the bottom of the seat and Ryou looked down to see Itsuki looking up at him.
"I'm here to take your place," He said, "I made some clam soup," he continued as Ryou climbed down, "it's in the kitchen, it should still be hot, but if it isn't just warm it up on the stove and don't burn it like Bane did."
"I won't," Ryou promised, ruining Itsuki's soup was something close to a sin in their group of friends. "Thanks Itsuki."
"It's no problem," Itsuki said, "go have a shower and cool off."
Once in the lock rooms, Ryou turned the temperature on the shower down and basked in the cool water. It was so nice after being under the sun for hours. He checked his skin and was glad to find he didn't have any sunburn, at least that was something good.
After showing he dressed and was just finishing blow drying his hair when Saeki came into the locker room, his face lighting up when he saw him.
"I have something for you," he said, hiding whatever it was behind his back.
"What is it?" Ryou asked, hoping it wasn't a stupid joke.
From behind his back, Saeki produced a hair tie. "You looked all hot and bothered without your hair tied up," he said, "so I got you this."
"Thanks," Ryou said, taking it and tying back his hair. It made him feel infinitely better.
"The girls were all telling me how pretty they thought your hair was," Saeki said, "the all giggled when I said you looked like Rapunzel in her tower."
Oh great, now the girls would be calling him Rapunzel until the end of the holidays.
"I don't think you'd like it if I climbed up your hair," Saeki said cheerfully, "it would hurt a lot."
"Yeah," Ryou replied gruffly, "it would. And it'd ruin my hair."
Saeki laughed, "We should get some lunch before Shuudoh eats all of Icchan's soup."
Ryou nodded. On their way to the kitchen, he noticed Saeki's shoulders were looking very red. "Did you put suncream on this morning?" he asked.
"I forgot," Saeki replied sheepishly, "is it bad?"
"Pretty bad," Ryou said, "I've got some aftersun you could use."
"Will you rub it on for me?" Saeki asked with a wink and Ryou found himself going as red as Saeki's shoulders.
