Seoul, South Korea
"I didn't realize how late it was."
Elise shrugged. "Me neither. What time is it?"
"Halfway past midnight."
"Dritt, Astrid, I have a class tomorrow morgen." Elise leaned away from the white desk, reaching for her bags.
"Go on, then," Astrid urged. "Go home and get some rest. We're the only ones here, anyway."
"I bet there are still some of the Dutch upstairs," Elise laughed, pointing at the ceiling. She took a moment to ensure that she was not forgetting to put any papers in her bag.
"가기," the blond girl said, giving Elise a playful shove.
"Okay, okay. I'm going!"
"Vær forsiktig."
"I always am," said Elise. "See you next week."
Astrid gave a small nod. On her way out, Elise could not help but get a little spooked by the empty ghost town that was the Norwegian Embassy during the middle of the night. It was dark, but there was still just enough light to make out a few things. She found the walk on the sidewalk much less intimidating than the walk to get to the sidewalk, even with a handful of drunk men shouting things.
Elise slipped off her shoes and took of her backpack as she entered her apartment. All of the lights were off, except for the small lamp which always stayed on. Not bothering to turn on anymore lights, she made her way down the hallway, cracking Dae's bedroom door open a little. It was completely dark, and Elise could hear her roommate's faint breathing. She carefully closed the door, opening the one to her own bedroom. She changed out of her jeans before collapsing onto the bed for the night. She fell asleep quite fast, and slept surprisingly well.
It was only surprising since she had just spent the last four hours investigating a Norwegian man who'd broken his probation that had managed to get into Korea despite his travel ban. Elise hadn't been told the man's name, but she did know that he was in prison under a murder charge, as well as another assault charge.
