150 Years Old Heirloom Stolen from Hamilton Home
Whether it is in newspaper or online news portals, incidents of theft are prevalent. Every day, due to a perceived lack of requirement for security measures, people lose their jewellery, and other valuable items, to theft. A recent news article was titled ‘Museum quality heirlooms stolen from Hamilton home.’ The story goes that, while the owners of the house, Maurice and Michelle Smith, were enjoying their holidays travelling around East Cape in their motorhome, their house in Hamilton, New Zealand was burgled. One of the most valuable items that were taken was a 150 year old heirloom. This valuable item represents their five generations of family history.
The 1.5 meter chain made of wood was whittled by the great grandfather of Mr Smith from a single piece of wood. It was kept in store safely, yet was found and taken. Maurice stated that it was sentimental for his family and is of museum quality. Maurice wants it repaid and he also like the offenders caught too. Maurice stated that the robbers must have scouted the place out for some time and noticed that their motorhome had disappeared. On the day in question, a neighbor noticed a car leaving the driveway. As such, they have a car registration number and have notified police as well, so “it’s just a matter of time we find them” he said.
The home owners also said that they intended to come home for Boxing Day and go back again a few days later, but had changed their minds. Other items robbed were a television, sound system. jewellery and cell phones. From all of this, the family only wants their heirloom back. Daughter Brooklyn Smith stated that ‘We do not care about phones or other items, we just want our heirloom back.’
