Theft of Sentimental Items Increases Widowerās Grief
Simon Harvey, a vicar from St Maryās parish in Islington, challenged a burglar in his home stealing his deceased wifeās jewellery, and delivered a heartfelt plea for the sentimental items to be returned.
Ā Rev. Simon Harveyās wife Jennifer tragically died just nine weeks ago prior to the incident, at 52 years old. Mr Harvey, also 52, expressed that it was not just him and his two sons that had been deeply impacted by the loss of his wife after a short and sudden illness, but his whole parish. The couple first met at the school they attended in Wolverhampton and were married in 1986.
Ā The vicar confronted the burglar in his bedroom and managed to capture a photo of the man, from behind, on his mobile phone. Rev. Harvey stated that when he encountered the intruder he realised that he had to collect as much evidence and information as possible, to aid the police in catching, and hopefully convicting the man.
He told reporters, āI heard myself saying out loud to him āStop! I want to take your picture.ā
Ā The vicar told reporters about how he challenged the intruder upon discovering him in his home, but the man fled the house after barging past him. Mr Harvey, followed the man out into the street but the criminal got away.
Ā Upon returning to check if any of his belongings had been taken or damaged, he was devastated to find that the thief had taken a lot of items that had been presents to his wife over the years from the very first time they met as childhood sweethearts.
Ā The stolen items include:
The first piece of jewellery that Simon gave to his wife when they were teenagers
Her engagement ring
Her wedding ring
Her eternity ring
Other jewellery that belonged to his late wife
Other items from the home
Ā The vicar was visibly upset when he told reporters; āIām heartbroken and would love to have them back. But the rings are the most precious things, they are rings that I have given her over the years from when we first met when we were teenagers at school.ā
Mr Harvey said; āThe loss of these rings feels like a real body blow coming after Jenniferās loss. These are the only things I wanted to keep for the rest of my life, now they have been taken from me as well⦠I feel really crushed and sorrowed. Each of these rings has a very special memory for me. I can picture the look on Jenniferās face every time she received one from me⦠They are not that valuable, I am a man of modest means. The wedding ring cost me Ā£20 back in 1986 but they are priceless because of what they mean to me.ā
