What This Hospital Is Giving Out To New Moms Is Completely Amazing! [Watch Video]
New moms, especially the young ones have such few ideas about how to properly take care of a newborn. Of course, there are videos, books and testimonials from experienced mothers to help them acquire knowledge as to the proper handling of a baby. But don’t you think it’s best if the advice came from medical experts themselves?
Well, that’s what this hospital in Philadelphia thought so, too!
In this certain state in the United States, the post-neonatal mortality and infant mortality rate has been doubled compared to the national average. That is why Temple University hospital is addressing this issue by creating a safety program to promote “safe newborn sleep.” They are giving out baby boxes free of charge to new mothers in their hospital, with all the baby essentials needed for the safety program. According to the University’s website:
North Philadelphia has one of the highest infant mortality rates in the United States with many babies born into poverty and to young mothers who do not have adequate resources to care for a newborn. As a way to address these issues, Temple University Hospital (TUH) will be providing baby boxes – which are functioning bassinets complete with a sheet and mattress as well as essential baby supplies – free-of -charge to all mothers who deliver at the hospital. It’s all part of a new program aimed at addressing the common high risk behaviors associated with infant mortality
The baby box is constructed in a way that it can be an alternative to a bassinet and serve as “a safe place to sleep in hopes of reducing rates of ‘co-sleeping.’ ” A lot of new mothers have testified about the convenience of the baby box provided by Temple University Hospital. 21-year-old old Brianna Devero was one of the new mothers and she tells Fox News about her experience with the baby box.
[After] coming home and nothing being put together because he came early, this was nice and easy to place him in there when I needed to relax. I was discharged at 8 p.m., and nobody feels like putting anything together late at night after being in the hospital.
What is inside the baby box?
All of the baby essentials, of course! Such as a thermometer, a sleep sack, a book that has instructions for safely putting the baby to bed and so much more. They also have a little mattress at the bottom for the baby when used as a bassinet.
According to Dr. Megan Heere of Temple University Hospital, they will be giving out this baby box to the next 3,000 mothers that will be delivering their babies in the hospital.
