"Garth."
"Hmm," Garth mused, arms resting on the table, half-asleep.
"Garth!"
Garth bolted up, hand reaching for the ever-present demon knife in his waistband. "What is it?" Garth asked, watching Sam as he paced up and down the floor.
"She's gone! Dean and I can't find her. You were supposed to keep an eye on her and she ran off." Sam stopped and heaved a quick breath. "There's a storm out there, and who knows if there are demons in the area."
"It's okay, Sam. She's safe."
Sam wheeled around and glared at Garth. "Did you let her leave? Wait-You know where she is?"
"No, ya idjit. I mean I think I know where she might have gone. Just stay here and let me go find her."
Garth grabbed a small pack from underneath the table, opened it, and retrieved its contents, a small multi-colored umbrella. With a nod to Sam, he hustled out the door and headed down a small path next to the cabin.
The destination he had in mind, an old oak, was at least ten minutes away, so he settled into a quick pace. Once he reached the tree, he leaned against the trunk.
"Y/N, you okay?" he called up into the branches.
"Yeah. I'm fine."
"Can I come up?" Garth heard a weak chuckle come from the tree.
"I'll come down."
Y/N climbed down the tree carefully until she slipped down from the last branch and landed a few feet away from Garth. It wasn't until she turned around that Garth saw the tear tracks down her face.
"Sweetheart." Garth dropped the umbrella, wrapping both arms around Y/N.
"I tried not to remember it. It just kept coming back and-" She trailed off as she started sobbing.
Garth shuddered involuntarily. He had accompanied Sam and Dean on what was supposed to be a regular hunt-famous last words- to find that the missing persons in the town had suddenly jumped to 5 people in the last week. Their search led them to an abandoned warehouse, where they found two demons torturing their latest victim, Y/N, barely conscious. She had watched them, not making a sound as Sam and Dean dealt with the demons, and Garth eased her down from the chains that bound her wrists above her head.
"I know it can feel overwhelming, but I believe in you. What you went through-" he paused. "No one else could have come out as strong as you did. You're an umbrella in a world of storms."
Y/N bent down to pick up the umbrella and held it above their heads. "Thanks, Garth."
"Let's head back. Sam's worrying his head off about you." He took her arm gently, and looping it through his, they set off back towards the cabin.
