Omigosh I just found your art and I really love it! I was wondering if you like the aesthetic of witchy stuff or are you involved with witchy stuff? I think your concepts are inspiring! Thanks for being a cool creator!!!
Long answer is long, I didn’t mean to ramble but I hope this answers your question!!
I used to be very involved in witchy stuff when I was a teenager full on wicca, but generally I didn’t really find it was for me, though I did retain a love of tarot/oracle and candles. Nowadays I am more into a lot of the history of witchcraft, bad and good, and it’s ties into strong women, feminism and other such things that get written out of history.
I also love the items and styles of magic that aren’t just waving about a magic wand and light glows in the end and it’s all very dramatic and cinematic. Symbols sewn into clothing or worn as tattoos for protection or personality. Herb collection for tisanes or smells, plant growing etc etc The kind of small feelings of power we get from everyday things not just massive grand magical gestures suitable for epic fantasy.
I think that’s why I’m also drawn to tarot. I don’t believe specifically they’re a magical way of telling the future or whatever, but they are a tool of meditation that can make you focus your thoughts on something you might not have previously been thinking about. So while they don’t have a direct “magic” I think their magic comes from how we interperit which random cards appear in our spread and have value whether you “believe” or not.
(however having said that I own 2 sets of tarot and a fairy oracle deck and I haven’t been able to find the tarot for years because I’m convinced the fairies are hiding them so I will only use the fairy deck, so... I’m such a hypocrite!)
The aesthetic is just a bonus. But I like to tie it into feelings of feminine power and strength no matter the gender of the character I’m drawing whether that’s fashion, hairstyle, accessories etc, I feel witchcraft carries a lot of balanced gender energies but also a strong female prescence.
(Also I have a very witchy friend, and if I see something and think “she would wear this” then I’m probably drawing it on a witchy lady. )
This book is 1. far too long, and 2. relentlessly heterosexual. I found a pdf and skimmed it because I couldn't stand hearing any more about the damn obstacle course up the cliff. I do appreciate the classic our-psychic-dragon-bond-makes-us-horny thing, but since I am not particularly invested in the main pair, I also skipped the sex scenes. It takes the author sooo long to get to the inevitable reveal that this entire country is actually the bad guys. Look: there are better dragon rider fantasies out there, and there are better romance novels out there, and I'm sure there are better military school adventures out there, somewhere. That said, I do find it charming that this author gave her main character Ehlers-Danlos because she has it. "This is my self-insert and she has the biggest, coolest dragon and a hot dangerous boyfriend and lightning powers, fuck off." It's not something I'm interested in personally but it makes complete sense to me that the TikTok girlies like it.
You're the only one I follow that cares about creepypasta stuff and thats all I'm getting recommended for on my dash
