Apart from the high-speed and low-speed couplings, gear couplings can also be classified on the basis of seal type. One of the types is the all metal seal (or Fast type) and the other is the elastometer seal type. Oil cannot be used for elastometer seal couplings because of their inability to retain enough lubricants under static conditions.

A Good Quality grease should have at least 92% oil, the rest being soap. If the percentage of soap is more, chances are that the teeth surface will get less lubrication.
