A friend of mine has been hosting some art prompts on her discord, and I felt like joining in on them as an excuse to draw some OCs. These are more quick doodles so I didn’t really worry about making them perfect.

This one was red, space, and clock.

Sahiim’s inks were the first idea I had, then later I realized that the prompts were perfect for Id, whom I haven’t drawn in forever.

Since I had moved away from using humans in the headworld, I also have been thinking of how to better redesign Sahiim to fit in better. I got thinking of going the route of one of the humanoids being twisted into a more bestial looking form.

These are sort of quick passes using her old palette to test out the idea, I might change her colors too- though I do still like this palette, so maybe not.

Thinking about Sahiim, since I haven’t in a long while but I still have ideas about her.

She may wear a saddle and the proper tack to keep the saddle on, along with bags and kit, but Sahiim will never wear a bridle. It suggests being under the will of another, a being that is supposed to be directed around without much thought.

The case being that Sahiim at one point had been human, and still retains all of her intelligence despite looking very much like some sort of equine, that would be beyond insulting.

Funnily enough Primus had not thought about this during their first few days together, and was quickly corrected otherwise when she not only tore away one he had tried to put on her, but also slugged him for the effort. She tends to meet anyone else who tries to suggest the same thing with an equal amount of wrath.

I’ve been working on doodling Sahiim in the time I have before work these past few weeks, so far she’s been the favorite to draw.

Many of these take from reference photos so I can get a better grip on equine anatomy, but there re still some places I want to improve on, namely the hips and how the knee joint goes together.

Sahiim is my character, I made her. She is not an NPC for your campaign, she is not yours. Please look deep inside yourself, find some creativity, and make your own goddamn character.

This got mentioned in a  response to the last post; Sahiim’s origin I think had been covered here years ago, but I also would love to talk about it again since I have more thoughts about it now. Under a cut since it might get long.

Before meeting Primus, Sahiim had once been a human living in Desik, the more arid part of the planet this portion of the headworld takes place in. This region also had the greatest concentration of death and undeath god-like entities since the climate was perfect for mummification.

One of the entities has several of these undead communities under their reign, which a living mortal can enter if they act as an apprentice to an undead- wherein at the end of it, they too turn undead and join them. Sahiim had opted to join the Raasi, which are more of a lich-like community that are often sent to the realm between the living and the dead to make sure nothing passes over that should not (mainly evil spirits, the ghosts of entities that still have some sort of beef with the living, etc.)

Raasi tend to be viewed as very good, since they keep the ghosts of the dead from bothering the living. This, alongside the promise of power that was greater than most of the other undead communities, drew her in. However, at the end of her apprenticeship it was clear that not everything was how it had been described initially. For one, she no longer was human in any shape or form, now turned into a beast of burden, the other was that she would be working alongside another entity that tends to act as guardians regarding the realm of the living and dead.

The one she was paired with not only was controlling, but also had expressed interest in spiriting her off at some point to be partnered with them forever.

She hates this, and quickly becomes disillusioned to her new ‘career’ and existence as an undead. At one point Primus comes into the picture when he gets turned undead by a strange artifact. The guardian and her are drawn to the surge of power that occurred, thinking that something had jumped across the realm between the living and dead - or there was an unauthorized ascension to lichdom.

They confront him, and immediately a newly undead Primus slams the guardian into another dimension on accident and Sahiim suddenly finds herself free. From there on is where the two team up since Primus is not supposed to exist and Sahiim is not supposed to be without a guardian (it has to do with reigning in a Raasi’s power, keeping them from letting their abilities get to their head and doing anything heinous.) So they both are on the run from some sort of undead law.

Admittedly I had been thinking of rewriting or completely redoing Sahiim’s design and story since my ideas for this duo have changed a lot since they were made about three years back, but horse-lady is still fun to think about every so often.

Have you missed seeing Sahiim around? I sure have. It’s been nice getting back into drawing some equine shapes with her, mostly in the vein of studies from photos that are tweaked a bit to suit her form.

Plus there’s a bonus Falgyrac interaction in there because I’ve missed drawing something with heavy hide and dense plating. Though I may have made her a bit small here.

Falgyrac may have the upper hand most of the time, but not all of the time.

Sahiim and Falgyrac are my characters, I made them. They are not NPCs for your campaign, they are not yours. Please look deep inside yourself, find some creativity, and make your own goddamn characters.

 I haven’t drawn my favorite three characters in a while, so I stuck them all together in one drawing. It’s nice to do some stuff with multiple characters in one image after a while of things being  a bit stagnant.

Some inks of Sahiim from my sketchbook, its been a long, long while since I’ve drawn her and wanted to revisit her design. Lately I picked up some better horse anatomy references so it helped out with planning her design and how she fits together.

Most of this was remembering how to draw her.
