#MasculinitySoFragile- Darryl Terrell’s Visual Representation  of Dual “Masculinity” 

Darryl Terrell (SAIC-MFA 2017) challenges toxic masculinity through a portrait series that addresses the dualities within masculinity, a term applied most commonly and unjustly to male identities. The series challenges gender binaries and toxic tropes that perpetuate machismo culture.  

“ During this social media conversation it was stated that real men don’t like flowers, or in that case anything deemed soft, feminine, or weak,” says Terrell. "It’s my Visual way of saying to men, but to Black men specifically that it’s ok to be fragile, it’s ok to feel weak at time, it's ok."

SAIC MFA Thesis Show 2016

Join us for the opening of the 2016 SAIC MFA Show; a public culmination of more than 115 MFA candidates' new work. Graduating students work for more than six months with three guest curators and 12 graduate curatorial assistants to create the exhibition, an approach that allows for dialogue, process, and collaborative decision-making among the artists and curatorial teams.

Chicago Artists Coalition 217 N Carpenter St, Chicago, Illinois 60607 PREVIEW4 brings together all of the 2014-2015 BOLT Residents for their first and only group exhibition at Chicago Artists Coalition. The fourth year of Chicago Artists Coalition's BOLT Residency program kicks off with its annual exhibition, PREVIEW4. This debutant exhibition will feature the 2014-2015 BOLT Residency artists Houston Cofield, Alejandro Figueredo Diaz-Perera, Myra Greene, Aram Han, Norman W. Long, Phil Peters, Sanaz Sohrabi, Spencer Stucky, and BOLT Resident Mentors Marissa Lee Benedict and Erik L. Peterson. PREVIEW4 brings together all of the 2014-2015 BOLT Residents for their first and only group exhibition at Chicago Artists Coalition, and offers a glimpse of the tensions, tremors, and harmonies that attend the boundaries between their artistic practices. Hannah Givler: Affects Illustrated

4th Ward Project Space presents: Hannah Givler: Affects Illustrated  November 9 – December 21, 2014 Reception for the Artist Sunday, November 9, 3:00 – 6:00 P.M. Acknowledging an uncharted present, Affects Illustrated explores architecture and social systems of alterity in lived experience.  Hannah Givler’s sculptural practice engages architecture through site-specific installation. At 4th Ward Project Space she employs existing elements of the space to amplify dynamics of interiority, permeability and projection. Her artistic research also attends to materialism, fictional utopias, city planning and song; and her resulting sculptures build onto a lineage of projects that consider the emotional and social stakes related to our physical systems. Hannah Givler is a Chicago-based artist.
