EVER SINCE HIGH SCHOOL LEMON BREELAND HAD BEEN SOMETHING OF A HANDFUL. why would it be any different, now she was just like a hyper pta mom of the town. there was no other way of describing her to be honest, that was the perfect manner of looking at. he could have ignored the call but duty and all that right? he liked his job even if it meant calls like this. he watched her go before he turned towards her sitting area with his hands hooked in his belts, one lifting to brush over his head. “gonna be a long day.” he grunted to himself as he was left to his devices. he stepped over and seemed to investigate the couch before he plunked himself down on the edge and while resting his arms against his legs he brought his hands together and was waiting for her return with a sense of slight dredd.
he didn’t hate lemon, don’t think that, he and her had their own history of course. him and it is too long to proudly admit a list of women in this town or hell even county. his gaze glanced around lemon’s well kept, probably never head the end of it if you rearrange anything or got crumbs somewhere, living space until he heard her coming back and quickly turned his attention as she brought forth a tray with goodies in her attempt to be heard by him on her issues. issues that were not an actual emergency and he was sure that they both knew it too. she had to know it right?
shane was watching every move she made with the calculations of a cop trying to deduce a situation almost like this was some kind of interrogation. not that it was but lemon had called him out on an emergency that wasn’t really an emergency and he was ready to get it out of her, end this conversation and get back to his real job even as he reached for the glass she poured for him because she was right …. was damn hot out. sipping the refreshment he reached out and set it down. “yeah guess i am…” he spoke once it was placed carefully on a coaster.
there was a pause as he seemed to consider his words and how to get about this quickly so that he could also leave … quickly. “what exactly you hoping to get outta dragging me out here on this so called emergency, lem? cause i got actual work i need to be doin’ and you’re kinda hindering that to be honest.”
“Oh Pish Posh. Is there ever a real emergency in Blue Bell anyway?” Lemon brought the tray up so hopefully he’d be enticed to take an apricot biscuit. “But fine, since I know you’re a very busy man, I’ll get to the point.” Well as short as she could manage to get to the point after all these very necessary details.
“Truth be told this is an emergency not many are takin’ seriously this summer. I’m sure a prestigious deputy of the law such as yourself must be feelin’ the brunt of this absolutely horrid heat wave. My, I’d venture even you find yourself workin’ even harder because your AC might be workin’ overtime to keep up with all of this.” She paused for effect. Taking a sip of the iced tea hoping he was at least intrigued, but not pausing too long in case he was going to walk out the door right then and there.
“Just imagine, Shane. You’re out there patrolling the town and while you walk, you’re welcomed in ever corner misters.” She moved about her arms presenting the scene for him. “Studies have shown with weather conditions like the ones we’re goin’ through can easily make the townfolk irritable. More likely to commit certain indiscretions. Indiscretions I’m sure will be makin’ you go out of your already busy day to tend to, and solve. But if we can get ahead of it--Why. I’m just sure we could improve the overall morale, and you’ll feel much better protecting our beautiful town.”
There was of course a second part to all this, other than agreeing. He was of course the deputy in town, and not the mayor. But, since she was currently not speaking to the mayor, for an incident that was absolutely not her fault, she needed this plan to come from someone else. And Wade couldn’t care less in helping the cause. Blue eyes looked expectantly at Shane hopin’ she was getting through to him.
