As he shifted uncomfortably and winced at the movement made as his ribs cry out in pain due to a couple of them were still broken. This was the first day, since being a somewhat prisoner in the hospital, that he was outside, supervised of course. Killian was highly pleased with that fact that Emma’s father, had asked Ruby to keep on eye on him that day. Even more to his pleasure she had let him go to the docks, where they both now sat on a bench off the pier. Reaching into his leather coat to retrieve his flask, he took a swig and then handed it towards her direction, requesting to know what she was thinking as she was being more quite than usual.
The answer she gave seemed rather ridiculous to him, as did her inquiry if he believed it possible or even if he deserved it. Giving a smug grunt as he took back the flask and took another swig, something told him that this wasn’t about him. “For someone like me that spent centuries reveling in m’own bloodlust? No, I doubt such an endeavor is possible.” there was a equally smug tone to the smirk upon his lips. Like he was proud of the reputation of being a notoriously cutthroat pirate threw out the realms.
Oceanic orbs focused on the slow roll of waves out int he harbor from the ocean drifting in. His gaze soon fell, falling onto the neck of the flask that he soon pressed the cork back into, sealing it up before his gaze lifted again and locked upon the waters once more, the smug smirk faded slowly. “Someone like you however, that is a different answer entirely.” he whispered meaningfully.
The years hadn’t changed the pirate, that much was clear, but Red had always seen a hidden softness in him, even if Killian was not keen to let such parts of himself show. It was why she’d released him in the first place, though she’d often wondered if that had been the wisest move. Whether or not he continued on his path for vengeance, Ruby hadn’t asked, but from the way he spoke now, she could venture a guess and would more likely than not be correct in it.
❝ And now? ❞ she asked, her eyes still trained forward, emerald orbs taking in the vast calmness of the sea. ❝ Are you still out for blood? ❞ Surprisingly, there was no judgement in her tone, the she-wolf fully aware that desire for revenge could have easily been her own path, had she been a different person. Anger, after all, was easier to face than pain -- and the brunette had had much pain in her life, as much as Killian. They’d both taken different courses to deal with it, and she wouldn’t begrudge him his choice, if only because she knew there was more to him.
The change in his tone made her eyes shift from the soothing roll of waves to azure tinted orbs -- a near perfect match to the color of the sea rolling into the pier. ❝ We were never much different, you know. ❞ From the moment they’d met, the pirate chained in one of the den’s cages, she’d seen the pain in his eyes -- one that mirrored hers almost identically. ❝ We took different paths to cope with our losses. I don’t think what you’ve done is excusable ... but I don’t think what I’ve done is either. ❞ Though what she had done -- killing the hunters and Peter while not in control of her faculties and accidentally murdering her own mother -- was hardly in the same vein as what Killian had, she hardly believed either of them deserved redemption, no matter how different their situations had been.
