something that strikes me from the windbreaker manga is that Sakura recognized Suo as strong before ever seeing him fight and then it made me think of how that could be. . . and

in this moment Sakura recognized Kiryu's sister as strong just from this one look and well (please excuse the poor quality google is shiiiittt and I had to get crafty.)

This is what Sakura saw when he first entered the class 1-1 for the first time, with Suo literally being one of the first things in his eyeline. He smirks because he recognized something in his gaze that told him he was strong... and of course we get Suo's face after he notices Sakura, but he probably didn't think anyone was paying him any mind. I just.... my brain wants to make connections so badly. Plus the fact that Kiryu's sister is very similar in the way that she tells he brother she is fine all the time, is always smiling and teasing. Just.... I'm chewing at the bit for morrrrreee.

while i don’t think she’s exactly lying here, i don’t think she’s being entirely honest either. hang on, let me explain.

ch. 2 

the third hokage on the village's treatment of naruto: naruto was sacrificed, for the safety of us all, to become a living vessel for the imprisonment of the fox. but that’s not the way the adults who know chose to see it. instead their treatment of the boy is so contemptuous and hostile it had been picked up on by children who have no idea of the truth…picked up on and perpetuated! iruka can you imagine how must it feel…so much hatred and hostility…to be treated with an animosity so intense as to be annihilating…to have around you many who would deny you even the right to exist. 

ch. 3 

sakura about her feelings for naruto (to naruto pretending to be sasuke): …if he had his way i’d never find love or happiness. he ruins everything…he enjoys tormenting me. naruto doesn’t understand me at all! i can’t stand to have him anywhere near me! 

sakura’s ‘hate’ for naruto comes from a place that’s entirely different from the rest of the village. she doesn’t dislike naruto because of prejudices set by the adults, but because of the way he treats her specifically. and at this point where she’s being very open with ‘sasuke,’ sakura doesn’t use the word hate here at all to describe her feelings toward naruto. (if anything it’s a combination of annoyance and jealousy over naruto’s freedom to do whatever he wants with seemingly no consequences.)

ch. 4 

kakashi: hmmm, how should i put this? based on my first impression i’d have to say…i hate you!!

we’re introduced to the concept of inner sakura this chapter, where we find out that sakura does sort of enjoy naruto’s shenanigans and that she has a tendency to project a more ‘well-mannered’ (socially acceptable?) version of herself. 

and also, the trio have known each other, they’ve entered the story with already standing relationships. they’re not providing this introduction for the benefit of each other, it’s to introduce themselves to kakashi—who has their files, he already knows everything about them. 

kakashi: oh!…me? my name is hatake kakashi. i’m the kind of person who doesn’t feel like talking about his likes and dislikes! my dreams for the future are none of your business…but anyway, i

have lots of hobbies… 

sakura: hey…he said a lot, but all we really learned was his name. 

naruto: my name is uzumaki naruto! what i like best is instant cup ramen! what i like even better is when master iruka treats me to ramen at the ichiraku noodle bar!! what i hate is the three minute wait after i pour in the boiling water. my dream is to one day be a better shinobi than the lord hokage!! and then the villagers will all have to acknowledge my existence at last!! My hobbies are pranks and practical jokes, I guess. 

sasuke: my name is Uchiha Sasuke. there are plenty of things i hate, but i don’t see that it matters, considering there is almost nothing i do like. it seems pointless to talk about “dreams”…that’s just a word…but what i do have is determination. i plan to restore my clan. and there’s someone i have sworn…to kill. 

sakura: i’m haruno sakura. my favorite thing is…well it’s not a thing it’s a person. a boy, and that boy is…uh let’s move on to my dream. *blush!* i hate…naruto! my hobbies are…

what was it sakura said earlier about kakashi? “he sure said a lot, but all we really learned was his name.” 

naruto relays no new information to us in his introduction, we already know he likes cup ramen and what’s to be hokage. and what does he choose to say he hates? is it the crushing weight of the villagers treat him? no, it’s the wait for his ramen to cook. a name, and no real information. 

sasuke’s introduction comes at no surprise to kakashi, implying whatever has happened to drive this is common knowledge, and we (as well as naruto and sakura) find out who/what/why as the story progresses. a name, and no real information. 

and then we get to sakura. who says the least of them all. who likes a boy, blushes at her dream, and hates naruto. we already know she likes sasuke—she’s already confessed both her love and her desire to earn his respect. we already know what her dream is—a first kiss with the boy she has a crush on. and we already know her feelings towards naruto and why she feels that way about him. 

‘i hate…naruto!’ 

so if taken at face value, the depth of sakura’s hatred is an annoying classmate. we see sakura doesn’t mind naruto’s behavior when it’s not being directed at her. we see that she doesn’t use the word hate when being asked privately about her feelings toward naruto. 

but if we look a little ‘underneath the underneath’. saying ‘i hate naruto’ is something nearly anyone in the village would say and something nearly everyone would agree with. (especially in the school system tailored to train loyal child soldiers, where poor treatment of naruto has been encouraged by the teachers/adults.) naruto knows how she feels about naruto, sasuke knows how she feels about naruto, we know how she feels about naruto and we’ve seen her decide to treat him better. 

the person who doesn’t know is kakashi. sakura’s saying ‘i hate naruto’ not because she’s still trying to fill the role of a rule-following student or because she actually hates naruto, but because in the way that the village treats naruto overall, that statement in itself reveals nothing about her to kakashi. all she’s given him is a name, and no real information.

I’m not always on Tumblr (though it seems like it). I have work, school-basically, MY LIFE- to get on with, so please understand that I’m not always available.

I will often go on unannounced hiatuses, so if you notice that I haven’t been online a few weeks/months, please do not flood my asks and messages with questions about it. Assume that I’m on hiatus or extremely busy, and move on.
