Hana Ikada
Hana Ikada are "flower rafts" – referring to the layer of sakura (cherry blossom) petals that float on a river or stream. Sakura trees line many of the rivers in Japan, so it's a common and delightful sight to see the hana ikada on the surface of the water once the petals have started to fall – about a week after their full bloom.
It’s a highlight of the Japanese Springtime to picnic under the sakura trees, but in some cities visitors can also take a small boat through the petals. CLICK HERE to visit an article about the best places in Japan to float through hana ikada.
