Fallon sat in the music room glaring at the piano keys that almost seemed to mock her lack of inspiration.

“Fal?” Elijah’s voice came from the doorway, to which she feigned an enthusiastic reply.

“Hi, sweetie. How was work?” He sighed and came to stand next to the piano.

“Don’t act like I can’t hear you swearing to yourself in here, hon.” He said softly, and Fallon let her head thump onto the piano keys. “Talk to me, what’s going on? You never have a slump when it comes to music.” She exhaled deeply and rose from her seat.

“I’m worried about Marlowe. She’s not been herself recently and I don’t know how to help her,” She told him, drawing a shaky breath, barely reigning in her emotions. “I just want her to be happy but it’s like she’s drawn into herself and she won’t let me pull her out again.” Elijah gave her a reassuring smile in an attempt to stop Fallon’s spiraling.

“Our girl is tough, Fal. She’s nearly 13, it makes sense that she’s keeping some things to herself now. Sitting in here worrying yourself sick isn’t helping anyone.” He said, his voice soothing her soul like it always had.

“I know you’re right, but she’s our baby, you know? I just want her to be okay.” Fallon whispered, and Elijah pulled her into his arms. Her hand instinctively came up to his face, gently caressing his jaw.

“Sometimes you just need to let them fight their own battles; otherwise if you try and force yourself in there it could have an adverse effect. If she needs you, she’ll come to you. Lo isn’t stupid.” His voice settled her nerves, and she inhaled his faded cologne, feeling instantly serene.

“Baby, with the way you’re looking at me you’re gonna be even further behind with your songwriting.” He grunted, causing her to giggle. It stilled baffled her as to how they had been together for nearly 15 years and he still made her feel like a giddy teenager.

“I don’t care.” She breathed in his ear, and he groaned, pulling away from her abruptly.

“Sit your pretty ass down and write your damn song.” He said in a deep voice she knew all too well. As they sat side by side she could feel the heat radiating off of him, making her insides flip and lighting a flame deep in her core. She could feel his eyes burning into her, and when she lifted her eyes up to his, the fire in his eyes made her cheeks heat. She gave him a sultry smile, and in an instant, she was sitting atop the piano with his arms around her.

“Fuck it.” He said before crushing his lips against hers.
