From Star Wars to Jedi: The Making of a Saga (1983)
Leia at Jabba's Palace
Sorry I couldn't not "yes-and" my own joke from the notes on the previous post. I present to you Salacious B(ogle) Crumb
my au where jabba lives and spares luke and the gang so rotta can be the first member of luke’s jedi academy… which i am theorizing will happen in the mandalorian and grogu movie. except jabba didn’t live. sadly. PLEASE HAVE LUKE SKYWALKER PLEASE HAVE ROTTA BE A GOOD GUY PLEAAAAAS
I don't share political things on my socials, but this one made me laugh today!
Fuck everything we need to talk about crumb more he’s not only actually sentient (contrary to first impressions) but in an incredibly interesting position within Jabbas court! He even more than others is at constant risk of being killed because his only purpose there is to entertain and amuse he has no value. His species is akin to the Twi’leks in that they are commonly bought and sold but in his case his species is sold as pets rather than slaves, more useful as food [yes! There are shots with other monkey-lizards being roasted for food!] than as anything else. Their sentience is irrelevant not even their physical labor is important to their monetary value. They are kept as strange pets but in Crumb’s case? He has an actual position. He’s not caged, but he’s not allowed to leave. Like the rest of the court, his life depends on Jabba’s whims, but for him it’s even more blatant. He is there to amuse the crime lord, and if he fails? He will be executed. He, like the rest of his kind kept as pets, is only there because he’s an amusing curiosity. HOWEVER. his amusement value and therefore survival are not tied to the way he looks or his funny name, it is tied directly to his sentence, to his ability to mock and entertain. The sentience which is ignored and perhaps punished in others like him, he is preserved by it. At the same time, he does not offer witty insults, merely parrots mockingly, and his laugh is half the joke. Nobody likes him but Jabba, but nobody but jabba matters, and even then, Jabba doesn’t necessarily treat him as a person. Crumb is akin to a lesser droid, and could easily be replaced by one. He is referred to directly as a “decoration” rather than a true member of court. He is allowed in important meetings, but he cannot offer input, he can only echo and laugh. He should have immense influence, through his proximity to the Hutt. He does not. He’s said to be fiercely loyal, but how loyal could one like Crumb be to one like Jabba? He was making the best of a situation he had very little choice in. But! While his sentience and ability to engage in mockery was what kept him alive, he supposedly fucking stupid! However, this is only on the word of Lugubrious Mote and I’ve not read the manga wherein she insults my glup shitto so we’re going to take that with some spice and indulge in Intelligent!Crumb who knew how not to cross the line of being too smart and thus too dangerous to be allowed such freedom within the court. Whatever. Salacious B. Crumb, underrated.
