Part 4
Something was wrong. You woke up with that heavy, sinking feeling in your gut that the universe had just played a massive prank on you. You blinked one eye open, squinting at the nightstand. Empty. Where was the alarm clock? Your hand flailed blindly in the air, searching for the familiar plastic shape. With a groan that sounded like a dying walrus, you fumbled for your phone. The screen lit up.
"...!" you gasped, looking with wide eyes when you realized is way to late. Everything goes into high alarm. How could be so fucking late? Haven't you set the clock yesterday? "MY FUCKING CHUNGOS LIFE!" you screamed at the ceiling. You launched yourself out of bed, and hit the bathroom at light-speed, taking a shower so fast you probably forgot to rinse off properly. You cursed your life again and again.
The chaos didn't stop there. You sprinted back to the closet, trying to hop into your pants while simultaneously put on a shirt. In the middle of your frantic zig-zagging between the wardrobe and the mirror, your pinky toe met the bedframe. Time stopped. "SON OF A—!" You doubled over, tears pricking your eyes as you limped through the apartment. You didn't even notice your alarm clock lying face-down on the floor.
"Where the fuck are my AirPods?!" You were currently a one-woman circus: balancing a to-go makeup set in one hand, digging for your keys with the other, and trying to put on a shoe without falling over. After eighteen minutes of pure, uncoordinated panic, you finally managed to burst out of your front door.
You finally squeezed yourself onto the goddamn crowded train and made it to the office with exactly ten minutes to spare before you had to clock in. It was just enough time to duck into the bathroom and attempt to look like a functioning member of society.
The weight of the day was already slumped over your shoulders like a heavy coat.
"I didn't even have time for breakfast," you murmured to your reflection. Your face was flushed, a few stray beads of sweat dotted your hairline, and your hair looked like it had been through a wind tunnel. You sighed, reaching for your phone. The screen lit up with a Patreon notification, but your eyes drifted to the background: a high-res wallpaper of Sylus giving you that soft smile.
The corners of your lips twitched upward. "Yeah... at least you know how to make my day."
A warm, fuzzy feeling spread through your chest. He was your ultimate comfort character. The perfect mix of adorable and absolutely sexiness. Why did he have to be so damn attractive? He looked practically edible. You could easily spend the whole night just making him—
A noise out of you bag make you loose the threat of you thought. You bag, which you’d set on the counter, tipped precariously to one side. A small, dark, fuzzy ball tumbled out and rolled across the marble surface.
"...?" Your brain stalled. You looked at the "ball." It had ears. It had a tail. It was currently uncurling itself and looking very, very annoyed. "Sylus?!" you scream. So it wasn't a dream?! Wait, wait, wait... "When—how—what—?" You stumbled over your words not sure which question to ask first. You brain is fried. Is way to early for this.
The tiny man stood up, shaking himself off like a disgruntled kitten. He adjusted his miniature shirt and looked up at you, his red eyes narrowed.
"Next time you decide to run a marathon, kitten," he rasped, "warn me. It’s like a washing machine in that bag."
"What are you doing in there?!"
"Joining you on a mission is more fan then wait for you at home."
"What mission?"
"Killing Wan..." Sylus paused as he saw your confused gaze. "The mission of getting my body back."
"So you sneaked into my bag? You weren't even able to leave the kitchen counter yesterday."
"I tried a few things out during the night."
"You really are a nocturnal creature," you sighed, beginning to fix your makeup. "Well then, Boss-man, what else were you doing?"
"First of all, I needed to change my clothes. You should save your 'creativity' for putting stickers on Mephisto." He was wearing his standard black outfit now, looking sharp even at five inches tall. "My Evol seems to have some effect in this world. After a bit of trial and error, getting to the living room was easy."
"I see..." You finished your eyeliner with a shaking hand, glancing nervously at the bathroom door. You sighed. There was no way to get him home now without being late, so he was stuck with you at the office. If someone sees me talking to him... My life will be over. He is unpredictable but if he is just like in the game, I could convince him to stay still like a plushie." You think a few seconds more but it settled.
"You need to behave, you little crow," you warned, pointing a finger at him. "That means no talking and no moving. If you do anything out of line, you will face the consequences."
Sylus’s smirk only widened. "Oh, I’m shaking," he drawled, the sarcasm dripping from his tiny voice.
That look gave you the exact same shiver you felt whenever he did it in-game. You bit your lip, desperately trying to hide the stupid, giddy grin that wanted to break out. You shoved your makeup supplies back into your bag and looked him in the eye. "Do we have a deal?"
"If I'm allowed to sit on the desk where I can see everything, I’ll behave," he said nonchalantly.
---
Sylus sat down, leaning back against the base of the monitor with his legs crossed.
"Hey! You're finally here!"
You nearly jumped out of your skin as your coworker approached you with a cup of coffee. Her eyes immediately landed on your desk.
"Oh my god, is that a new figure? He’s so cute! Wait, are those cat ears? I didn't know Sylus had a 'kitty' variant."
Before you could stop her, she reached out a hand to poke his tiny head. You saw Sylus’s tail give a microscopic, angry twitch. His eyes narrowed. If he bit her, you were dead.
"Don't touch!" you blurted out, grabbing her wrist a little too fast. "He’s... uh... very fragile. Limited edition. The paint job is super delicate!"
"Aww, okay, okay," Sarah laughed, pulling back. "He looks so real, though. His eyes almost look like they're following me. Creepy, but hot. Anyway, the boss wants those reports by noon."
You looked at Sylus. He hadn't moved a muscle, but his ears were flattened against his head in annoyance.
"If she touches me again..." You can see small threads black and red mist moving around him.
"Shh! Stop that."
To be continued....
