5: Favorite series and why
Protector of the Small
by Tamara Pierce. I read this series about 5 years ago, but it’s still a favourite. It’s got this really awesome totally badass female protagonist who’s training to be a knight and its got magic so what’s not to like!? I think it’s a good series because a) it’s well written; b) its a fantasy book that doesn’t have male protagonist and not an overly sexualised female protagonist and c) I’m a sucker for magic.

20: A character you like but you really, really shouldn’t.
Draco Malfoy and Professor Quirrel. I just finished reading
Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality
and Draco really comes across as misunderstood/ indoctrinated by his dad ie not inherently evil. And Professor Quirrel is really intelligent just.. he also happens to be Voldemort
25: A book that you think about and you cringe because of how terrible it was:
Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist.
No one should ever be subject to reading this, the plot is non existent and its just so badly written.
30: One book everyone should read
Sorry I’m going to have to put two (they’re kinda related).
First is The Art of Being Normal by Lisa Williamson. I can’t begin to say how much I love this book. It was one of those books I had to read all in one go, couldn’t put it down. I’ll try not to give too much away, but I love it because whilst it has a transgender protagonist, the book is about so much more than their gender.
Second is All of the Above by Juno Dawson. Okay so this book is like the coming of age book of our generation I kid you not. It’s about a girl who moves to a new sixth form and basically all of her coming of age shenanigans, and it has tumblr and cosplay and poetry and its awesome. Oh and (without spoiling the plot) it’s got a healthy dose of gayness. It was just one of the books I read and was like OMG THIS IS ME for basically the whole book.
35: What do you think of Ebooks
WHAT ARE THESE EVIL ABOMINATIONS. Not a fan sorry, I crave the smell/ feel of good ol’ paper pages. Plus less dangerous/ expensive if you drop a real book in the bath.
40: Has there ever been a book you wish you could un-read?
That’s a tough one. Possibly The Birth of Venus, I read it when I was waaaay to young (I had been warned by the librarian and I ignored them because the main character had the same name as me then). It’s not a bad book, just there was some quite graphic sex scenes I could have done without.
On a different note, The Female Enuch (Germaine Greer). I read part of this year, but I couldn’t finish it, it made me so angry. So more of the language in this is just plain offensive, particularly towards the lgbt community. It’s outdated and just I wouldn’t recommend it. Aside from the book’s content, Germaine Greer has made some frankly very transphobic comments and has refused to apologise so yeah… stay clear.
