Day 4 - Powell River to Saltery Bay
I was glad to be leaving to campsite this morning and heading off in search of a better camping experience! There was a security light which stayed on all night, shining directly on my tent. That was the final straw. Even tho I would have liked to have a rest day, I decided that I would move on. Besides, with the sun shining, it had all the makings of a good day to cycle.
It was pretty smooth sailing as I left Powell River. A few rolling hills, but all in all, pretty manageable!
I made a stop at a salmon spawning hatchery, which was enjoyable, tho void of any salmon at this time of the year.
Then the real hills hit! A huge hill, then a little down, and then another huge hill. This carried on for some time until I saw a sign for a view point. At last! The summit! And it was!
Then finally, cruising down a giant hill, back to the water and into the campground. Oh yeah! The summit also marked the point when the sprinkles began. As good as a time as any to set up camp.
The campsite is such a contrast to the one last night. I am quite some distance from the nearest campsite, and further still to the nearest occupied site! Perfectly positioned amongst the trees and almost becoming a part of the rainforest itself!
Once camp was set up, I quickly rushed to the shore. The tide was out and there were even a few tidal pools to explore. A side trail (with a warning of bear sightings) lead me back to the campsite, just as it started to drizzle some more. All in all not a bad day, but I think I will carry on tomorrow and start exploring along the southern Sunshine Coast!
34.96 km today, 209.3 km total!
