Juke prompt: Julie and Luke are really competitive and one day Julie finds an old monopoly board in her mothers trunk. She gathers Flynn, Willie and the boys to play and all hell breaks loose.
Somehow there is not much Juke in it, but I hope you enjoy it anyway. I did my best.
Flynn grinned widely when she moved her hat on the “Boardwalk”.
“No, no, please don’t,” Alex murmured and shook his head, signaling her to not do it.
Flynn’s grin only grew. “Oh, the boardwalk. The most expensive street on this board.” She skimmed through her fake money and sighed exaggeratedly. “I don’t think I have enough money for that.”
“No,” Alex whispered and took Willie’s hand - just for comfort.
Luke grinned widely. “That means it’s up for auction. I’ll bit 100$.”
Julie laughed out loud, almost manic. “One hundred? That’s all you’ve got. How about two hundred?”
“300!” Reggie chimed in but was silenced by fiercefull glances from both Julie and Luke. He shrank in on himself while Julie and Luke kept going, outbidding the other only by a dollar each time.
“What did I do wrong?” Reggie whispered.
“Nothing,” Alex assured him and patted his shoulder. “You know how competitive Luke gets and apparently Julie is no different.”
“It’s so much fun, guys, isn’t it?” Flynn asked, visibly amused.
“No,” Alex said. “No, it’s not!”
All four of them were watching Julie and Luke, throwing numbers at each other, until Luke exclaimed, “1000$.”
Julie raised an eyebrow. “You don’t have that much money.”
“Watch me!” Luke said and took his fake bills into his hands to count them.
“This is comedy gold,” Flynn commented.
“It’s not,” Alex countered, getting more tense by the second. He didn’t like confrontations and that was too close to one. He only calmed down a little when he felt Willie’s hand on his leg. He smiled gratefully at him.
“Only 980,” Julie said, laughing. “I win.”
“How do you win?” Luke asked. “We’re only buying something. This isn’t the end of the game.”
“Yeah but you can’t pay your bid so I get it automatically and I can’t lose with the Boardwalk, you’ll see.”
The game went on like that, Julie and Luke always at their throats, daring each other who could build the first hotel on their streets, or trying to steal each other’s money by distracting the other with cute words and soft kisses. They never fell for these tricks, they were way too deep into the game and into the thought of winning that they would get distracted by some pretty eyes. At least Julie didn’t. Luke on the other hand couldn’t even stay strong during a game of Monopoly.
In the end it didn’t matter what tricks they both played because Flynn won with flying colours. She raised her arms and danced on her chance. “And that’s how you do it!”
“How did you do it?” Luke asked, confused. “I was winning.”
“Were you though?” Flynn smiled and winked. “You two were too engrossed in each other’s business that you didn’t notice how much money I was making. Not that it wasn’t my plan from the beginning to play you against each other.”
“Flynn!” Julie exclaimed but shook her head lovingly. “You’re evil.”
Flynn shrugged. “Maybe I am, but at least I didn’t scare poor Alex and Reggie.”
Julie turned to them. “I’m sorry, guys. I get a little competitive at times.”
Reggie laughed softly and shrugged. “You’re just the perfect couple.”
Julie smiled softly and looked at Luke, blushing a little. Luke put his arm around her, leaning closer. “Want to play some chess tomorrow? Just the two of us?” he whispered.
Julie laughed but nodded. “Definitely,” she said, grinning wickedly.
