Happy birthday Put My Guns In the Ground!!!
“He couldn't see the color of Wash's eyes from this distance, but he could see that they were bright and clear, and he could see that they were full of conflicting, unnamed emotions. They're still full of warring emotions, but Doc can name them this time: loyalty mixed with uncertainty, anger mixed with exhaustion. He can see their color now, too: blue as a cloudless desert sky, waiting for rain”
Thanks for being 300k words of legendary prose and intuitive storytelling! I know the quote isn’t technically from PMGITG but it GOT me so I used it anyway ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 😘😘😘

Put My Guns In the Ground by saltsanford
Summary: The thing about finding love in a war zone, Tucker thinks, is that you never know when it’s coming.
The thing about finding love in a war zone, Wash thinks, is that you never know where it’s going.
The thing about love and sex in a warzone is that there are a million things that can go wrong, but—
As it turns out, there are also a million things that can go right.
When the Federalist and New Republic armies unite on Chorus in the face of a common enemy, they must first learn how to trust each other. Two former Freelancers, an A.I. fragment, and several Red and Blue soldiers have a thing or two to learn as well, about trust, and loyalty, and love. In war, you make homes out of people despite knowing that they can be ripped away in the blink of an eye and-
The thing is, you protect your own with everything you've got. [NC17]

2, 15, 26 FOR THE ASK MEME BABYGIRL 😘
2. Why do you write fanfiction?
I get stories in my head and then I can't stop thinking about them and I have to write them down otherwise they will haunt me forever and ever. I wish I was kidding, whenever I don't write a story down it lives in my head rent still. I have a Supernatural/Criminal Minds crossover from 2014 haunting me sometimes when I close my eyes at night.
15. What’s the weirdest fandom you’ve ever written for?
BOLD QUESTION COMING FROM SOMEONE I MET IN A MACHINIMA HALO FANFIC FANDOM.
Uh... besides RVB... maybe SNK/Attack on Titan? That was a weird phase of my life. Wrote a banger fic, don't get me wrong. But weird, anyways. XD
26. Is there anything you’ve wanted to write, but you’ve been too scared to try?
Honestly at this point in my own fanfic "career" lmao I have zero fucks to give. I've turned my ao3 account over to the most self indulgent nonsense possible that is DC Uninterrupted, I have WILD shit hidden in the depths of my 2013 era, people still regularly correct my grammar on a fic I wrote my sophomore year of high school, and one of my favorite fics of all time is a fic where I take my personal favorite character of all time and make her a trans woman and then spend 40k with it. I don't have a lot of fear left in me? There are fics that I've abandoned, or never started, but most of the time it's just that I ran out of steam with them, or the story never started cobbling itself together in my brain the way I wanted to. With the Bat Family fandom in particular, I know my readers will either come with me or they won't, and if they're not along with me, I'm entertaining myself at the very least. I'm a bit arrogant after writing as much and as long as I have, and I don't really believe in not trying out of fear for not doing someone justice. Because even a rough draft can be worth writing, just to get the emotions, the feelings, the rawness out of your system. Maybe it'll never be shared, I certainly have a lot of fanfic lurking on my harddrive that never got posted, but I'm past the point of no return when it comes to fear.
... except maybe my original fiction that stuff terrifies me.
whoops.

“You know this is a thing you do, right?” by Saltsanford
Church says something he regrets
“'Well, then, go on. Do you think I abandoned you?"
"I...yes. Okay? You may as well have."
Wash jerks back despite this being the answer he was expecting. "You—how can you even—"
But Epsilon's the one interrupting, now. "You should've tried harder- you should've listened, you should've run—"
Wash's head fills with a buzzing fog at those words; how dare he say those words, like they haven’t been racing through Wash’s nightmares for years and years, like he hasn’t repeated them to himself, believed them himself, in his darkest moments.”

Everyone really loves Wash
“Betcha Red Team gets Wash out of his armor before you Blue Team losers,” Sarge sneers at Tucker.
“What? Wash is Blue Team! Me and Caboose'll have him out of his armor before you Red assholes can even fucking blink!” Tucker pauses. “...no. I can't say it.”
Donut waves his hands. “Guys wait, I don't think we should make this a competition!”
“Are you kidding? That's how we do all our shit!” Tucker jumps to his feet. “Sarge, I bet you my wall patrol next month that Blue Team will get Wash to take off his armor before you guys can.”
Sarge's helmet tilts back in consideration. “Arright Teal Deer. And when we win, you've got to reorganize the armory and inventory the motor pool's storage room.”
Tucker sticks out his hand. Sarge shakes it.

Caboose adopts something he probably shouldn’t
“It’s got eight legs. At least. Tucker’s not sure if the other appendages would be classified as spines, hair, or eye stalks. Tucker also can’t tell it’s front end from its back end but hopefully Caboose can because the man’s letting it lick his face. Caboose hugs it to his chest like a teddy bear and the creature burbles.
“There is no god if that thing exists,” Tucker says, shaking his head. He’s backed as far away as he can get and put the kitchen table between him and it.
Caboose grins and hugs the creature closer.
“Her name is Pinecone. Because she is sharp and I found her in a tree.”
Pinecone makes a noise like a dying garbage disposal and licks Caboose with a third purple maybe-tongue.”

Wash has a nightmare
There’s obviously a ton of these but salt writes the most raw and effective Wash whump under the sun
“The nightmares are not his, should not be his—they come from too many different minds (LeonardAlphaEpsilonDavidWash) and he should not have to carry them. He wakes up screaming, howling, ripping out his hair. When they shave his head, he claws at his scalp until it bleeds. He hears the word restraints whispered outside of his door, and no, they can’t restrain him, they can’t pin him down and leave him trapped inside this windowless room with all of these memories in his head.
He stays awake for three days before the doctors catch on. They give him sleeping pills and calming sedatives, and although they make him sleep, they do not stop the dreams. He hovers just on the edge of consciousness, thrashing desperately against the wall that won’t allow him to wake up. When the drugs finally wear off in the morning, everything is wet, from tears the on his cheeks and inside his ears to the urine soaking his legs and the mattress beneath him.”

Epsilon and Alpha aren’t the same
“Church snorts. “Oh, please. Like you haven’t pulled off more elaborate schemes than this to get laid in the past. The shit you used to pull in the canyon—”
“YOU WEREN’T IN THE CANYON!”
A dam Tucker didn’t even realize he was holding back bursts inside his chest, and his yell is so loud that Carolina jumps to her feet, trying to insert herself in between the two of them. “Alright, that’s enough—”
“No. No!” Tucker levels a glare at Epsilon, dizzy and shaken from the unexpected fury this truth brings. “You weren’t in the canyon! Alpha was in the canyon, and you’re not him! Don’t act like—don’t act like you fucking know me when you don’t. You don’t!”
