Greetings, first of all, astonishing blog you got here. Second, what are the best F4 comics (whether an specific arc or complete creative runs) that shows what makes the team interesting? According to you
Thank you! Well, I just published a reading list for beginners, but if you want more isolated stories you could read to get a sense of what the FF are about:
Fantastic Four Vol 3 #60: “Inside Out” — This is from Waid’s run and it reintroduces the FF as a team from an outsider’s perspective.
Marvel Knights 4 Vol 1 #1-#4: “Wolf at the Door” — The FF are swindled out of their fortune and have to reinvent themselves in order to survive. It’s a beautiful little character study of who they are outside of their superherodom!
Marvel Knights 4 #28: “Private Lives, Public Faces” — Reed follows through on a promise he made in “Wolf at the Door,” while Sue protects one of her employees from the employee’s abusive husband.
Fantastic Four Vol 1 #527-#532: “Distant Music” to “Any Day Now I Shall Be Released” — Reed gives his fortune to the U.S. government to avoid being charged with treason (read Waid’s run to find out why!) and agrees to collaborate on a military project that seeks to recreate the accident that gave the FF their powers (...and he maybe commits treason again).
Fantastic Four Vol 1 #551-553: “Epilogue” — Future Namor, T’Challa, and Doom show up to warn the FF about their future.
Dark Reign: Fantastic Four #1-#5 / Fantastic Four Vol 1 #570-#572 — The opening arc of Hickman’s run — Reed encounters the Council of Reeds, composed of alternate versions of himself, and has to make a choice.
Fantastic Four Vol 1 #605: “End of Line” — Reed’s time-traveling father takes him throughout time to see Ben’s lonely future.
Fantastic Four Vol 1 #606: “Adventures in Red” — The FF go on one of the most important missions of their career.
Fantastic Four Vol 3 #51-#54: “Eye of the Beholder” to “A Choice of Dooms!” — The Inhuman Royal Family seeks sanctuary on Earth after having been enslaved by the Kree; the FF advocate for them despite widespread bigotry; Sue’s pregnancy is once again life-threatening.
Fantastic Four Vol 1 #334-#336: “Shadows of Alarm” to “Dark Congress” — From Simonson’s run. The FF testify before Congress and singlehandedly defeat an early version of the Super Human Registration Act.
Fantastic Four vs the X-Men Vol 1 #1-#4 — Kitty Pryde is dying. The X-Men turn to Reed for help, but he must work through his own guilt, self-doubts, and fears before he can help her.
Mythos: Fantastic Four — An AU retelling of the FF’s origin story.
