The Irish Supreme Court ruled that access to abortion should be allowed if the life of the mother is in danger. 21 years on, we're still waiting for legislation on the issue. Successive Irish Governments have cowardly avoided introducing legislation as it's such an emotive issue. Tragically, this case is the inevitable result.
I'm sickened by the pious, "This is a Catholic country..." excuse. Letting that poor woman linger in agony isn't exactly Christian, now is it? Shame on the hospital for letting her die; shame on 21 years of successive Irish Governments failing to introduce legislation, to prevent such a thing happening. The medical Hippocratic oath starts, "First do no harm..." Talk about hypocrisy from all concerned.
