Can we have more fluff that includes Aksamitka? I love her little face! Maybe like her bonding with Geralt during one of the times he visits, something like that would be cute I think.

“Hold it steady, little fox,” Geralt instructed. Sam’s clear blue eyes stared with a focus that was unprecedented in all five years of her life as she arms held the bow and arrow straight. Geralt’s arms engulfed her but stayed just off of the bow, ready to move if something happened but letting her adjust to the tension of the arrow and building the little muscles she would need to become the archer she had been bound and determined to become.
“Now what do we do next?” he asked.
“We check to make sure Papa and Mama aren’t close. Or Roach!”
“Or Roach, very good. And then what?” Geralt asked with a little smile.
“Then we let the arrow go,” she said.
“Yes, just so,” he’d barely gotten the words out when she threw her arm back, smacking him in the face as the arrow went flying into the bushes, a flock of birds jutting out of it at the impact. She turned her face to Geralt’s, a huge, beaming smile on her little face that Geralt couldn’t help but return.
“I did it!” she declared.
“Your aim is getting very good. You’ve been practicing,” he praised. She widened her smile, hugging the bow to her chest. It had been her most recent gift from her surrogate uncle and she loved it more than anything else in the house. Sometimes, Jaskier jokingly groused, more than her own parents. She snuggled it in bed like a teddy bear and when she saw Geralt coming up the road on a visit she always ran out quickly with her bow and demanded they practice right away.
“Uncle Geralt, do you think when I grow up I can be a witcher like you?” she asked. Geralt’s smile faltered, thinking of the things he’d endured to become what he was and all that he had survived after. The thought of the tiny child in front of him, the baby he’d held in his arms after she’d been born and the face that was an echo of his close friend, experiencing anything like it made his heart twist. But he could see that she so desperately wanted him to say yes, to say that she could do anything she set her heart to and based on her parents alone that would likely be true. He gently set one hand on her tiny shoulder and his golden eyes peered into her determined blue ones.
“I will teach you everything I’ve learned and when you grow up you can decide what to do with it,” he said.
“Ok well I’m gonna decide to be you,” she said simply.
“I thought you wanted to be a bard like your father,” he argued, remembering the phase where she would run through the house turning everything into an instrument. Granted she had been three at the time, but still.
“I wanna be both,” she said, her tone exasperated as though it was the most obvious thing in the world that she would be the world’s best Bard-Witcher-Healer-Horse Rider.
“Well in that case,” Geralt said with a smile, “You should practice your playing too.”
“Oh I’m not gonna play music I’m just gonna sing and Papa’s gonna play it for me and then I’m gonna sing at the monsters about how badly I’m gonna kill them and then!” she paused her sentence for emphasis – truly Jaskier’s daughter – “I’m gonna kill ‘em!”
Her glee for murder should have been worrisome but Geralt only smiled at her fondly, oddly proud of her fervor.
“Will you take me with you someday?” she asked.
“Hmm.”
“Papa says he used to go with you and sometimes he still does. He tries to say he’s just going to visit a friend but he always has a new adventure when he comes back and I know what’s really going on,” she leveled Geralt with a look that clearly communicated she would put up with no bullshit. A look she got from her mother that would serve her well in the future.
“I do dangerous work, little fox, but I promise that when you are old enough to hold one of these,” he pulled down one of his swords, still sheathed to protect her small hands as they immediately tried to grasp it, finding it too heavy to lift to her disappointment, “You can come with me. If you do what I say.”
“Does Papa do what you say?”
Geralt considered his answer for a moment and he watched as Sam’s gaze stayed on his, watching him carefully to see what he would say and if she believed his answer.
“No,” he answered simply. A wicked smile lit up her face and Geralt wondered what he had unleashed on Jaskier, his face breaking into a similar smile at the thought.
“I’m going to be different,” she announced proudly before moving off to retrieve her arrow, “I’m going to listen and do everything you say.”
He shook his head slowly, watching as she jumped into the bushes and then stuck her arm out of it, clutching the arrow in triumph before running back his way. She was going to be different, that was for certain. But there was no way on this earth or the next that a daughter of Jaskier’s would do everything he said. Not always. But today she listened and today as they walked back to her home she held his hand, letting him guide her through the woods, delighting him with a made up song about the day’s adventures that rivaled anything Jaskier had ever sung.

“Aunt Aev, what is this?” Sam asked, laughter in her voice as she held aloft what appeared to be some sort of handmade old timey minstrel costume. At the teen’s question Aevryn looked up from the box she was sorting through and laughed.
“Oh my Gods, that thing is so old. I made that for your dad to wear for one of our school projects,” she explained, eyeing the outfit fondly.
“You made it?” Sam asked in awe.
“Yep. It’s been a while since I’ve sewed anything, but yeah, I made that.” Aevryn watched her niece run her hands over the faded fabric and grinned. “You could have it if you wanted. I’m sure your dad’d get a kick out of seeing it again.”
“Really? I can keep it?”
“Course you can. Go for it.”
“Awesome! Thanks Aunt Aevryn!” the teenager exclaimed excitedly, adding the outfit to the little pile of knick knacks she’d found while helping her aunt go through the attic.
“Eh, it’s nothing. Y’know I think your dad still has the lute that went with that, somewhere,” Aev mused as Valdo appeared in the doorway.
“Have either of you lovely ladies seen Romeo?” he asked, leaning into the room, his eyes traveling over the piles of boxes surrounding his wife and niece.
“He’s over here with me, Uncle V,” Sam called, and sure enough the little french bulldog perked up at the sound of his name and he gazed up at Sam from his spot next to her foot; his little tongue lolling happily.
“I should have known,” Valdo declared, sharing a grin with Aev, “he absolutely adores it when you visit.”
Sam smiled and stooped to scratch the little dog’s head fondly. “Well, the feeling is mutual.” As she straightened Sam picked up the costume to show her uncle. “Check it out, look what I found! Aunt Aev said I could keep it.”
Valdo rolled his eyes in recognition. “Ah yes, I remember that thing,” he commented dryly, his gaze settling on his wife for a moment, his lips twitching slightly before returning his attention to Sam. “And what exactly are you going to do with it?” he asked with amusement.
Sam looked down at the fabric thoughtfully for a moment. “Oh, I have an idea.”
—
A few days and a few alterations later Sam raced down the stairs wearing the costume, her bag slung over her shoulder.
“Hey dad, do you still have Aunt Aevryn’s lute?” she called, heading to his home office-slash-studio without waiting for his answer, to rifle through his collection of instruments he kept stored there.
“Yeah, what do you need that fo--?” Jaskier’s question cut off as he walked around the corner to find his daughter dressed in his old tights and puffy sleeved doublet, the feathered hat perched jauntily on her head; only one of her signature brunette buns visible. “Well that answers that question… sort of. I mean obviously you can’t dress like that and not carry a lute,” he said, placing his hands on his hips as Sam froze, her hand still on one of his guitars. “However it begs a whole new set of questions -- probably the most important being, why are you dressed like that?”
“I found it while I was helping Aunt Aev the other day.”
“Yes, but why?” Jaskier asked again, amusement dancing in his sky blue eyes.
“Because… I’m going on a quest,” Sam answered cryptically. “Just… think of this as one of those moments when you just shake your head fondly and think ‘kids, who knows what the heck they’re up to?’ and then go about your day,” she said hopefully.
The pleading look she gave him won out over his curiosity and Jaskier walked over to the closet where he stored the old lute and pulled the case out with a grin.
“Alright, on one condition,” he said sternly, pausing to open the case. “Well, actually, make that two conditions,” he amended with a twinkle in his eye.
“Dad,” Sam groaned impatiently, itching to be on her way. “What are the conditions?”
“The first is you have to bring this instrument back in the same condition you took it, and the second is… you have to tell me what this,” he gestured to her getup, “was all for, after you get home,” he said, barely keeping the laughter from his voice.
“Ugh, okay fine,” Sam exclaimed, taking the lute in hand and giving it an experimental strum before running a couple scales.
Jaskier watched proudly, though still dying to know what mischief his daughter was up to.
—
Standing in front of Nic’s house, Sam took a deep breath. Even though they were technically already dating, her nerves hummed as she knocked on the door, hoping Nic’s mom wouldn’t answer.
Luckily when the door opened there stood Nic, a confused grin lighting up his face as he took in Sam’s appearance.
“Umm, what --?” he began, his bright smile only growing.
Before he could finish his question Sam held up a finger, quieting him while biting back a grin of her own before dramatically strumming the lute and clearing her throat.
“Prithee, Nic Marigold, I… doth have an important query for… thee,” she said haltingly searching for words, and unsure if they really meant what she thought they did. “Wouldst thou do me the honour of attending the prom with… me?” she asked, glancing hopefully up at her boyfriend’s face, waiting for his response.
Nic’s face grew solemn for a moment and Sam’s heart jumped into her throat.
“Yay verily, I would be honoured to be your partner for a night of fancy dress and dancing. For certainly we shall be the… fairest couple in attendance,” he answered with a bow and a flourish, his golden brown eyes flicking up to Sam’s, gazing at her through the mop of tight curls that half obscured his face.
“Verily?” Sam asked, laughter bubbling up past the nervousness that had gripped her.
“Yey verily!” Nic repeated as he straightened, laughing as well.
Leaning in, he pressed his soft lips to hers, taking her off guard, but she didn’t hesitate in kissing him back, shifting the lute out of the way so she could step closer, throwing her arms around his shoulders.
“You’re not gunna dress like this for the dance are you?” Nic teased, nuzzling his nose against Sam’s before pulling back.
“Oh Gods, no!” she exclaimed with a chuckle. “...Unless?”
The pair shared a look before both erupting into laughter and soon they were seated on the front steps, Sam leaning against Nic’s shoulder as she plucked idly at the strings of her father’s lute.
“I was planning on asking you, you know, to prom,” Nic admitted and Sam’s fingers stopped, her blue eyes flicking over, suddenly worried she had overstepped. She was usually the one to initiate things between them and she hadn’t even considered he might’ve had plans for this.
“But there’s no way it would’ve been that creative or funny,” he continued, eyeing her in turn, a soft smile on his lips that calmed her sudden fears. “How did I get the coolest girlfriend ever?” he asked and Sam’s heart skipped a beat.
“I’m not that cool,” she muttered in return, setting aside the lute so Nic could slip his hand in hers.
“You really are, Sam. I’m always in awe of you.”
“Yeah well, you’re the sweetest most thoughtful boyfriend ever, and I wouldn’t want it any other way,” she murmured, giving his hand a squeeze before she felt his other hand under her chin, gently turning her face to his for another sweet lingering kiss.
“Maybe we should decide what colour outfits we’re gunna wear, because I definitely want us to match,” Nic said suddenly and a cheeky grin pulled at Sam’s lips.
“You sure you don’t wanna go as twin minstrels?” she asked, already snorting a laugh at Nic’s deadpan expression.

“DADDY!”
A wide smile broke out on Jaskier’s face before he even turned around, already knowing what he’d see. Sam sat atop Geralt’s shoulders, her little arms thrown up in excitement while Geralt kept her legs securely in his hands. In her small hands she grasped drumsticks and Jaskier’s smile faltered a little, only making Geralt’s grow more.
“Daddy look what Uncle Geralt gave me!” she cried excitedly. Geralt lifted her off his shoulders and pressed her into Jaskier’s waiting arms in one fluid movement.
“I’ll see you later little fox, remember to show your dad the song I taught you!” Geralt said, planting a quick kiss on her cheek and then practically running from the room, escaping Jaskier’s accusing eyes. He sighed and made a mental note to warn you about this new bit of sabotage from his bandmate before you came by to pick her up and then fixed his eyes on his daughter.
“Uncle Geralt told me that when I grow up I can be a drummer like him and he said the best way to start learning how to drum is to just start hitting everything!” she exclaimed, rearing back her arms and eyeing Jaskier’s neck with alarming intensity.
“Everything but people, Mitka,” Jaskier said hurriedly and she paused, arms frozen in the air before a confused look overtook her face and she cocked her head to the side.
“He said I should especially hit people,” she explained.
“Goddamnit Geralt,” Jaskier muttered under his breath, “Tell you what! When your mom gets here to get you ready for tonight, you can stop by the parking lot and practice on Uncle Geralt’s motorcycle! Won’t that be fun?”
She looked slightly skeptical but Jaskier was saved by you arriving.
“Hello love,” you said, greeting Jaskier with a kiss the same way you had since all those years before after you started dating. You looked at the drumsticks in your daughter’s hands and gave Jaskier a questioning look.
“Compliments of Uncle Geralt,” he explained.
“Ah, yes that makes sense. Well, are you ready to go get ready for daddy’s big show tonight?” you asked, turning your attention back to Sam.
“Yes! But we have to stop in the parking lot,” Sam said.
“Oh Sam, I was – ”
“Why?” you asked, cutting off Jaskier’s attempt to undo what was already in motion.
“So I can practice drums on Uncle Geralt’s motorcycle!” she explained. Jaskier gave you an innocent smile that you rolled your eyes at.
“Tell you what, kiddo, let’s do that next time. We have to meet your Aunt Yen to get our nails done before she has to come back and practice,” you said, grateful when your daughter seemed more excited by the prospect of seeing her Aunt than beating the hell out of Geralt’s prized possession. You gave Jaskier another quick parting kiss and walked out with Sam telling you excitedly about the lessons she’d be receiving going forward.

Sam had been so determined to stay awake this time.
She usually made it about halfway through the set, eagerly clapping along and cheering for her family when Vicious Mockery performed. She had a pair of bedazzled headphones that had been a gift from her Aunt Aevryn who stopped by whenever she wasn’t on tour herself. Tonight had been a full house with not only her Aunt Aevryn coming by to join you and Sam in the wings, watching as the band performed, but also Valdo who always made a big deal about how big and beautiful Sam was getting, ever the charmer. Sam thought Valdo was wonderful and out of love for his close friend and daughter, Jaskier grinned and bore it as best he could. Sam was certain tonight would be the night she could stay awake, filled with excitement over seeing everyone and getting to practice on the little drumset Yennefer produced (somewhat in apology for Geralt’s drumsticks present and somewhat in cahoots with his ultimate goal of getting Sam to make as much noise as possible at all times). Somehow, though, Sam woke up Jaskier’s arms as he carried her out to the old van they still used to transport the group around when they weren’t on tour. Jaskier strapped Sam in carefully but tucked her up close between the two of you.
“I fell asleep,” she said, tiny voice filled with sadness. Jaskier felt his heart break a little bit every time his daughter showed anything but absolute joy and there were days he feared he would die a brokenhearted man.
“Tell you what, little fox,” Geralt offered, sending her a warm smile through the rearview mirror, “we’ll give you the rest of the concert now.”
Jaskier opened his mouth to protest, to say that she needed to get some sleep, but she got so excited and Geralt gave him a look that challenged him to disappoint her.
“Alright, Mitka, what sound did you hear before you fell asleep?” he asked, looking down into her bright blue eyes.
“It was the one about the wolf,” she announced.
“Of course it was,” Jaskier sighed as Geralt preened happily. Jaskier and Yennefer sang the song as they had on stage, though much quieter, and Geralt joined in for the chorus. It didn’t take long before Sam’s eyes grew heavy and this time when she fell asleep she didn’t wake until the next morning, unaware that she’d been sung to the whole ride through and late into the night by her father who sometimes just couldn’t pull himself away from her side.
Here’s an idea for Punk!AU! How about Sam is on her first proper date with Nic, and Daddy Jaskier with the help of Uncle Geralt and Uncle Valdo follow them to spy on them (as Jaskier is feral that Sam and Nic might do more than just kissing), and Jaskier sees them kissing passionately, and overthinks that they’re going to get it on, in which Sam gets angry at her for treating her like a child, and Jaskier feels guilty thinking his daughter hates him and they hug and say sorry in the end.

Jaskier had actually allowed himself to believe that maybe Sam and Nic wouldn’t ever date. Valdo shot that down every time he voiced it, citing his own longtime feelings for Aevryn that he didn’t act on until much later. Geralt never really told Jaskier he was wrong but he grew suspiciously quiet and distracted by something whenever Jaskier asked him to back him up. The pair had been crushing on each other a bit since they’d met in middle school and now they were in high school and still nothing.
Until today.
Sam had announced casually that Nic was taking her on a date to the aquarium that Friday evening and when Jaskier protested that he hadn’t asked his permission she’d wrinkled her nose and reminded him that it wasn’t the 19th century. Jaskier had looked to you for support but again was left on his own as you gave him a look.
“Nic is a good kid,” you told him later, “They’ve known each other forever. Yennefer is friends with his mom. There couldn’t be a better first boyfriend for her.”
But Jaskier wasn’t convinced and finally he got the support he was looking for when he told the guys about the date.
“He’s making his move,” Valdo said, leaning against the pool table he’d been practicing on like some sort of mafioso. Geralt’s brows furrowed and he clutched his tumbler of scotch a bit tighter.
“I like Nic, don’t get me wrong. I trust Sam and I trust him as two separate individuals but put them together and it just feels….” Jaskier trailed off, trying to find a word to describe his roiling emotions.
“Off,” Valdo finished for him, “As well it should be. We’ve all been young kids before. Some of us are still old in fact.”
He preened as Geralt and Jaskier rolled their eyes.
“She’s your daughter too so we have to be careful of that,” Valdo remarked. Jaskier’s eyes shot daggers as he pulled himself up to his full height.
“What the hell does that mean?” he demanded.
“Oh calm down we know exactly what that means. The kid is a charmer and she’s got an appetite for romance. It isn’t bad, god knows I’m not judging or shaming, but she’s still only 16 and doesn’t understand the emotional toll of being intimate,” Valdo explained. Jaskier paled. He hadn’t even considered… intimacy. He and Y/N had talked with her about sex a long time ago, emphasizing matters of consent and dispelling the virginity as purity myth. You tried to raise her with a healthy knowledge of sex but that didn’t make the idea of you engaging in it any better. When Jaskier looked at you he could still feel the weight of you in his arms, the clutch of your tiny fist around his finger.
“What do I do?” Jaskier exclaimed, feeling utterly at a loss.
“You said it’s this Friday? As in tomorrow?” Valdo asked. Jaskier nodded in agreement.
“Valdo…” Geralt said, his voice warning.
“Hey! Listen! I mean no ill will to the kids but there was a time not long ago when chaperones were a thing. I’m just wondering if perhaps it may behoove us to bring that tradition back,” Valdo said.
“I don’t know…” Jaskier said, though Geralt could see the wheels turning in his mind.
“Alright well how about this… It’s been awhile since I went to the aquarium, a very public space which people have every right to go to. And it’s been awhile since the three of us went out for a guy’s trip,” Valdo suggested. Geralt swirled the scotch in his glass and thought for a moment. He could feel Jaskier waiting for his response, gauging how he felt and trying to be patient.
“I do like the otters,” Geralt said simply.
—–
“Oh my god they’re so cute!” Sam exclaimed, watching a sleek river otter work at opening a clam. Nic watched her, his long, brown curls brushed out of his face so he could watch her face light up with delight. He’d wanted to do this for some time but he was always scared, worrying that asking out his best friend would lead to losing her. His mom had advised him to go for it, ultimately. And he was so glad. They’d had some seafood for lunch and he’d impressed her with his octopus facts. In truth he could have told her anything about any creature and she would’ve been impressed, happy to hear him speak and that his hand kept brushing against hers, as they were right now. She reached out and took his hand in hers and pointed with the other one to a fluff otter baby but Nic’s eyes were on their entwined hands, heart pounding with excitement.
“Ah bless,” Valdo sighed, watching the young couple from around a hall corner.
“She looks so happy,” Jaskier whispered, brushing a tear away.
“Hmm,” Geralt replied, but there was a mistiness in his eyes too. Ciri hadn’t begun dating yet (as far as he knew), too focused on school and her activism, but he knew the day would come before he was ready. This was a bit of a test run for him, except Sam felt just as much like a daughter as Ciri.
“Shit they’re on the move,” Valdo hissed and the three men nearly fell over themselves running out of the way. They successfully followed at a distance, each wearing an attempted disguise to not bring attention to themselves from fans or Sam, and they followed them into a circular room where fish swam around the sides and above them. Though it was a popular attraction there weren’t as many people and Sam and Nic seated themselves in the middle, staring up as beautiful varieties of fish swam around.
“You know, the Pacific Northwest has over 40 subspecies of Sculpin alone?” Nic said, his deep brown eyes finding Sam’s pale blue ones as he recited the fact.
“How do you know so much about fish? You’re a baker, not a fisherman,” Sam asked with a laugh.
“Hey, I can be both! Don’t put me in a box, Pankratz,” Nic teased, a glint in his eyes. She quirked her an eyebrow at him and pretended to tap her foot, waiting for the answer. He finally relented, dropping his gaze sheepishly.
“I, uh, may have done some googling ahead of time to try and impress you,” he admitted.
“Nic Merigold, that may be the cutest thing I have ever heard,” Sam said. Nic’s eyes met hers again and she leaned in a bit closer. He swallowed hard, eyes falling to her lips, and he moved in as well until their lips gently touched.
“That’s alright, that’s fairly painless,” Valdo said, though he whispered through gritted teeth. Geralt clutched Jaskier’s arm, both to comfort him and because he needed to wrap his fist around something, the primal protective urge he wasn’t proud of bubbling up in his chest.
Sam slid a hand into Nic’s curls and moved to deepen the kiss, tongue sliding across braces a little clumsily. They pulled apart suddenly as someone fell over by the entrance.
“Uncle Valdo?” Sam exclaimed, rising and walking over to the man who carefully righted himself. He tried to gesture subtly for someone behind him to move away but she ran up too swiftly and caught Jaskier and Geralt who were frozen mid-stride, their faces turning guilty.
“What… the… fuck?” Sam muttered, staring incredulously as Nic walked up beside her, wrapping an arm around her shoulder. He was a shy boy but when someone he cared for was upset that became his focus and Sam was definitely upset.
“Sam!” Jaskier exclaimed, “Fancy seeing you here!”
“Don’t,” she snapped, tone and voice becoming an echo of her mother’s, “Were you spying on us?”
“Spying is a harsh word,” Valdo began but he stopped as Sam shot him a dirty side-glare that reminded him oddly of his own wife. It seemed Sam had taken a bit of all of the Vicious Mockery ladies. The way she held herself and the anger that emanated from her was all Yennefer, though she remained in command of her actions, much like her Aunt.
“Nic thank you for a wonderful day but I think I need to go,” Sam said. Nic reluctantly pulled his arm away and she gave him an apologetic look that cut through all three men’s hearts, as did the mournful look in Nic’s face as well.
“Until next time?” Nic asked. Sam turned to him and planted a brisk kiss on his lips, squeezing his hand and summoning a smile as she nodded. He smiled back and lamely waved at the three men before moving off towards the exit. Sam turned back to face the three of them and to their mutual horror there were tears in her eyes.
“Mitka, I’m sorry I didn’t mean to-”
“I’m not a little kid anymore. How can any of you tell me that I’m independent and can take what I want from the world and then turn around and spy on me when I go on a date. With Nic! Nic who you all know and love! Nic who’s been by my side since I was a kid! Why would you do this to me?”
She didn’t wait for their answer, spinning to run away towards a different exit than the one Nic had gone through. Jaskier moved to go after her but Geralt stilled him with a hand on his shoulder.
“Let her go,” Geralt said. The words struck terror into Jaskier as he considered the weight of all they could mean, but he relented.
Jaskier talked with Y/N about the day, confessing his role in what had happened and after a long conversation with a lot of similar expressions as the one he’d gotten from his daughter earlier that day, the two of you waited for Sam to return. You heard the door open and close downstairs five minutes before Sam’s curfew and Jaskier sat up.
“Do you want me to go with you?” you offered. Jaskier shook his head.
“I need to make this right on my own,” he said. You nodded, giving his hand a comforting squeeze, and texted Yennefer and Aevryn to thank them for dropping her back home, knowing that they’re who she would have gone to while upset.
Jaskier found Sam sitting in the kitchen, drumming her fingers against the granite countertop of the island. She glanced up when he walked in but looked away again.
“Uncle Valdo has offered me a car if I stop being mad at him. What’s your best offer?” she asked. Jaskier swore internally and made a note to talk with Valdo – yet again – about extravagant presents, much less bribes.
“What’s the going rate on a sincere apology?” Jaskier asked. She raised a hand and gave a “so-so” gesture which was all of the encouragement he needed.
“I shouldn’t have betrayed your trust,” he began, leaning against the counter to face her though her eyes stayed on the counter, “It wasn’t right. You’re smart and responsible and vastly wiser than I ever was at your age. And I do trust Nic, he’s a good kid. It’s… hard to watch your kids grow up. And that’s not on you, that’s something I need to deal with myself, but I want you to know that I see you as the young woman you are and I’m proud of you. And I won’t butt in again. Unless you want me to.”
“I won’t,” she said, eyes rising to meet his.
“I know,” he said a little sadly. She caught the sadness and sighed.
“Daddy I know you mean well and I know it’s hard. But it’s not like that much has changed. I still need you, just in different ways. Like, I may not need you to tie my shoes but I need you to trust me. And I may not need you to fight my battles for me but I do need you to be there for me when things go wrong,” she said. Jaskier smiled softly and nodded.
“I can do that,” he said.
“Good. Also, you’re totally paying for our makeup date,” she insisted.
“That seems fair,” Jaskier agreed.
“And you’ll let Uncle Valdo buy me the car,” she said, a sly look in her eyes.
“Nice try, Mitka,” Jaskier said, crossing over to her and pulling her into a hug.
“Eh, can’t blame a girl for trying,” she muttered, wrapping her arms around his waist and returning the hug. “I love you, daddy.”
“I love you too,” he replied, murmuring into her hair and trying to blink back the tears. When she pulled back there were some in her eyes as well.
“I gotta text Uncle Geralt. He’s been sending me memes all day so he must be real upset,” Sam said, reaching for her phone again. Jaskier shook his head and went back to the room where you were waiting for an update.

Two pairs of puppy dog eyes gazed at Aevryn; one set of emerald green made more vibrant by black liner, the other a striking pale blue decorated with shimmering blue eyeshadow nearly the same shade. Beside them stood the piercing artist, unbothered by what was a common confrontation.
“Aunt Aev please,” Sam pleaded, braces catching the light emanating from the Edison bulb above their heads. Leave it to Valdo to find the most hipster-y piercing parlor in all of Seattle.
“Sam, your mom and dad gave us permission to escort you to get your ears pierced,” Aevryn said.
“This is part of her ears!” Valdo insisted, hands on Sam’s shoulders as she nodded eagerly.
“Ear lobes,” Aevryn emphasized. Sam sighed dramatically, shoulders slumping in defeat as Valdo patted them comfortingly.
“Next you’re going to tell me I’m not getting a tattoo either,” Sam muttered, turning around. Aevryn’s sea green eyes widened and then squinted at Valdo who shot her an equally alarmed look before Sam glanced back, a mischievous smile on her lips.
“Just kidding, Auntie Aev. Dad’s already told me I have to be 16 at least and that I have to go with Uncle Geralt and Aunt Yen for that,” she said. She hopped into the leather chair and the piercing artist got the gun prepped.
“Now we’re sold on the idea of the dolphins?” Valdo asked, “Because we could do the diamonds.”
“Let the girl have dolphins, Valdo,” Aevryn said, shaking her head with a smile.
“I just want her to embrace her power, darling,” Valdo exclaimed.
“Don’t worry Uncle Valdo. I can both be a queen and love dolphins,” Sam said reassuringly.
“Well as long as you know that,” he insisted, sharing a smile with her. Aevryn took Sam’s hand as the gun was positioned and then, when she saw how anxious Valdo looked, took his in her other one. They looked like they were praying as the little silver dolphins were punched into her ear. She didn’t so much as blink but her hand squeezed Aev’s hard. When it was done and they walked out with the cleaning solution and a few more pairs of earrings (including the diamond ones Valdo insisted on), they walked out towards the little French bakery for a post-piercing treat. There was a line as usual and Valdo tried to weave through the crowd but Aevryn reminded him that Jaskier and Y/N wanted Sam to have as normal a childhood as possible and he waited in line almost patiently.
“What are you going to get?” he asked Sam.
“Probably a macaron,” she said, slipping her hand into his out of habit. She was 13 now, growing rapidly before their eyes, but she was still just young enough to not feel lame about taking her family’s hands. Until she spotted Nic. Her hand slid out of Valdo’s and he looked down, a hurt expression on his face until he followed her gaze and saw the young man Aevryn had stalked on facebook (“it’s called research, I am still the liaison for their security detail after all” she’d insisted when Valdo teased her about it). He had his mother’s dark, curly brown hair and deep brown eyes. He spotted Sam and perked up waving at her before turning to the woman standing next to him and saying something. She looked over and nodded and he ran over.
“Hey Sam,” he said.
“Hey Nic,” she mumbled in return.
“Sam,” Valdo said, though Aevryn shook her head at him, “Are you going to introduce your friend to us?”
Aevryn rolled her eyes. He sounded just like Jaskier, the pair having more in common than either would admit, especially when it came to their protectiveness over Sam.
“Um, Nic is a kid from my class. Nic this is my Uncle Valdo and Aunt Aevryn,” she said. Valdo shook the boy’s hand and Aevryn gave him a warm smile.
“Hey,” he said to them briefly, though Aevryn could see a glimmer of recognition in his eyes that he quickly abandoned, focusing instead on the girl between them, “Did you pick a dinosaur for your project yet?”
“Yeah, Ciri and I are gonna recreate a Parasaurolophus,” Sam replied, perking up a bit as they entered a territory she felt more comfortable in, schoolwork.
“Oh cool! Teddy and I are doing a t-rex. Kinda basic, I know,” Nic said, shrugging self-consciously. Valdo scoffed in agreement, earning him a dark look and swat from Aevryn. He gave her a wide-eyed look, silently communicating that the kid said it first but she glared him down before fixing a sweet smile on her face as she looked back down at the two kids.
“My dad would say it’s classic,” Sam countered, giving him a big smile that he returned.
“Nic, we gotta get going hon,” the woman said, moving over to your little group.
“Valdo Marx,” Valdo said, extending an arm to introduce himself. She gave him a smile and shook his hand.
“Triss Merigold, Nic’s mom. Are you Sam’s parents?” she asked.
“Ah, tragically I do not have that honor. No, we’re just her aunt and uncle,” Valdo explained.
“Oh right, Jaskier’s kid,” she said with a fond smile as she looked down at Sam, “I’ve heard so much about you.”
Sam blushed a little bit and Nic looked askance while Valdo rankled a little at the woman’s words.
“It’s nice to meet you all. Maybe someday you can come over and do homework with Nic after school,” Triss suggested. Sam’s eyes widened a little and she mumbled something noncommittal. The kids said goodbye again and then Nic left and Sam moved forward in line, pointedly not looking at Valdo or Aevryn.
“He seems nice,” Aevryn offered.
“Ya, anyway, I’m gonna have a macaron,” Sam said quickly, clearly signaling that she would not be discussing her crush at this time or maybe any other. Aevryn smiled but when she turned to share one with Valdo he was scowling strangely.
“The kid seems nice,” she whispered.
“She’s not just Jaskier’s kid,” Valdo hissed back.
“What?”
“She called her Jaskier’s kid, as though that’s what mattered,” he grumbled back.
“Hon, she is Jaskier’s kid. She probably would have said the same thing even if Jaskier wasn’t a celebrity,” Aevryn said. He shook his head.
“It’s hard having a whole… lineage behind you growing up. She needs to know that she matters as she is, not just because of who she came from,” he insisted. Aevryn smiled tenderly and planted a kiss on his cheek that he turned into a real kiss, moving his face to capture her mouth with his.
“She’s going to be ok. She has you to buy her diamonds and remind her she’s the Dolphin Queen, after all,” Aevryn teased, “And besides, she’s smarter than Jaskier ever was. She’s going to change the world, that one. Someday they’ll be calling Jaskier Sam’s daughter.”
Valdo smiled at the thought, a little bit because it meant Jaskier would be overshadowed but mostly because it spoke to the girl in front of them coming into her own. But he hoped, with a little twinge in his heart as Sam ordered in French, that it wouldn’t happen too fast. As they grabbed their pastries and moved back out into the brisk, Seattle air, looking for a bench with a good view of the Sound, Sam slipped her hand into Valdo’s again and he held onto it tight for the rest of the day.
I loved the punk!au Jaskier and Sam fic! I’ve just thought of another idea. How about when Sam is a few years older and she gets her first crush on someone in another band and Daddy!Jaskier gets overprotective, which the reader finds very funny.

“Hey gang, it’s Sam and Ciri back at you with another episode of As The World Burns, a weekly catchup on life, love and friendship during the End Times!”
Jaskier chuckled into his coffee as his daughter’s voice came belting out from the cracked studio door.
“Sam, you’ve got some exciting news today, why don’t you tell the people about it?” Ciri replied, sounding like an old timey announcer for a game show. Jaskier chuckled again and you shushed him.
“You’re going to mess up their take,” you chastised him.
“They’re a whole room away and I’m pretty sure it’s live streaming,” he whispered back.
“Well Ciri, it’s true. It’s finally happened. I’ve finally found the love of my life.”
Jaskier’s eyes widened and he stared into yours. Now you had to bite back your laughter as you watched your husband go pale at the news your daughter had already shared with you weeks before.
“Oooh,” Ciri replied, “Tell me more, tell me more!”
“His name is Nic Marigold. He’s in my class and we met one summer’s day in the lunchroom. We both reached for a gogurt and our hands touched…”
Ciri gasped and the two girls giggled while Jaskier paced the kitchen.
“Now, Sam, your name actually means marigold so would that make you…”
“Marigold Marigold!” the two recited in unison, their tiny minds blowing in sync while Jaskier glared at you as though this was your fault.
“It’s destiny!” you heard your daughter declare.
“It’s bollocks,” Jaskier grumbled.
“Hey,” you warned him, eyeing the room they were recording in.
“I don’t like the sound of this,” Jaskier insisted, his voice hushed but deeply distressed, “Who is this Nic kid? Why have we never heard of him before?”
“I’ve heard of him before,” you said, preening a little as you took another sip, pretending not to notice the look of utter betrayal on Jaskier’s face. Sam had always been more of a daddy’s girl but there were things she trusted you with, things she insisted a dad could never understand, and while you knew you could tell her that her father was always there for her and would listen to what she had to say, you enjoyed having these little parts of Sam to yourself.
“Why does that last name sound familiar,” Jaskier muttered under his breath, “What kind of a name is Marigold anyway?”
“Jaskier you literally named yourself after a buttercup,” you said.
“That’s different,” he argued.
“You named our daughter Marigold. In Polish. We aren’t even Polish.”
“You agreed to that name but funny how all of a sudden I named her that!”
The door swung open and Jaskier jumped back guiltily, trying to look calm and relaxed as Sam and Ciri poured out of the room laughing together.
“Hi Daddy!” she cried, running up to give him a big hug, followed by Ciri who did the same. Ciri had been Geralt and Yennefer’s first foster child and though the adoption paperwork was still being worked out, she’d been fully adopted into the family’s hearts for quite some time. Sam beamed up at Jaskier, a wide smile that showed off the neon orange braces she’d worn proudly for about a year now.
“How was the show?” he asked, giving the two girls a quick hug before they headed to their real target, the fridge.
“It was good!” Sam answered, pulling out a plastic picture of lemonade while Ciri searched your freezer for pizza rolls.
“Any interesting news today? Any hot takes?” Jaskier asked, causing you to choke on your coffee as Sam gave him a side eye.
“Nobody calls stuff a hot take anymore, dad,” she corrected him.
“Alright what’s the hot goss?” he asked, doubling down on his archaic slang and making his daughter and niece laugh more.
“Sam has a – ”
“New plan to cut down on greenhouse emissions,” Sam said, cutting off her cousin and shooting her a warning glare.
“Oh?”
“Ya! Edible coffee mugs,” she said.
“Made out of what?” you asked, clutching your porcelain mug a little more tightly. It was one Sam had decorated for her at band camp one year and it was one of your prized possessions along with every other thing Sam or Ciri had ever created.
“Not sure yet,” Sam admitted, “Maybe seaweed?”
“Who eats seaweed?” Ciri asked, wrinkling her nose in disgust as she popped some pizza rolls in the oven.
“Aunt Yennefer! She took me out for sushi once! Seaweed is actually really good,” Sam explained.
“What else is going on?” Jaskier asked. Sam put on a show of thinking hard about his question, turning her eyes one way then another, staring at the ceiling as though the answer would appear before shrugging her shoulders.
“That’s pretty much it,” she said and began to walk away. She paused and you knew what was coming, familiar with this classic walk away then pause for dramatic effect move she’d been pulling since she was five.
“Oh, and I have a boyfriend,” she said with a little shrug. Jaskier sputtered and you bit your lip to keep from laughing.
“Oh! You have a boyfriend! Care to tell us a bit more about that?” Jaskier asked, propping his hands on his hips. Sam turned around, a look of fake surprise on her face as though it was genuinely unexpected that he’d want to know more.
“Oh, well, he’s a guy, His name is Nic and he’s in my class,” she said.
“Do we know this Nic?” Jaskier asked, knowing full well that they didn’t.
“He just transferred recently,” she explained.
“Who are his parents?”
“His mom’s name is Triss, I dunno who is dad is. I didn’t ask for his family tree,” Sam said the last part mumbling a little under her breath.
“Well I’d like to meet him,” Jaskier said, plastering a smile on his face, “You should have him over.”
“Uh I mean maybe?”
“No I insist,” Jaskier said, “His mom can come too! In fact maybe the next time I pick you up from school you can point him out to me!”
“Uhh,” Sam looked to you for help and you stood up and walked over to your nearly unraveling husband.
“Hey babe, Sam’s 13th birthday is coming up soon, I’m sure we’ll meet him then,” you said, wrapping an arm around his waist soothingly.
“Yeah exactly! Ok well we’ve got homework thanks love you bye!” Sam didn’t look back again before running upstairs and as soon as Ciri pulled the pizza rolls from the microwave she ran after her, her long blond hair disappearing around the corner before you could remind her to get napkins. You felt Jaskier’s body still tense and he worried his lip between his teeth.
“Hey,” you said, turning him to face you, “Talk to me.”
“I just… I just didn’t her to start having crushes so soon,” he said.
“Hon she’s had crushes since she could recognize that other people existed. She’s your daughter after all,” you teased. He gave you an affronted look and you kissed him.
“Jaskier, Sam is a smart, strong girl. We’ve raised her well and she’s going to want to explore a bit. We’ve talked about some stuff and she knows if she has any more questions she can come to me,” you said.
“Why can’t she come to me?” he asked, pouting a little.
“Well probably because you were one moment away from interrogating our child for another child’s home address and it’s just a bit much for a couple that hasn’t even had its first kiss,” you said. Jaskier perked up a bit at this.
“They haven’t kissed?”
You shook your head no.
“She would tell me if they had, right?” he asked.
“She tells you everything. Just in her own time,” you reassured him. You planted another soft kiss on his lips and moved away to put the mug in the sink. He pulled you back in and kissed you in earnest and you sighed, your body responding to his touch the same now as it had the first time.
“You’re a really good mom,” he said, his sky blue eyes gazing into yours adoringly.
“You’re a really good dad,” you praised back.
“Oh gross.”
You turned to find Sam standing in the entrance holding a now empty cup, grimacing at the two of you entwined in each other’s arms.
“What’s the matter, Mitka?” Jaskier teased, “Aren’t you happy that your parents are still in love?”
“Oh yeah it’s great,” she said sarcastically, reaching into the fridge to refill her glass. Jaskier let you go and walked towards his daughter. She’d grown so much, looking more and more like him every day though some of you crept in the older she got, mostly in the facial expressions she made. The same crystal blue eyes that he’d looked into when he held her in his arms the first time looked up into his now.
“What’s up?” she asked, pulling Jaskier back to reality.
“Just… I’m really proud of the work you put into the show,” he said. She beamed and gave him a wide grin, so wide you worried she may accidentally break the bands on her braces.
“Thanks daddy,” she said, pulling him for a hug that he returned so tightly you knew it took her breath away a bit but she didn’t relent, squeezing him back just as hard as though it were a competition.
“Alright,” he said, pulling back and patting one of the buns she’d twisted her chestnut hair into, a trademark style since she was little. “Go have fun and tell Ciri to tell her dad that I said-”
“Oh no, she’s not getting in the middle of that again,” Sam said, shaking her head and moving back to the stairs, glass firmly in hand. Jaskier shook his head as he watched her walk off.
“That’s your kid alright,” you said.
“Yeah,” he mused aloud, blinking back tears as he heard the familiar strains of Aevryn and Valdo’s demo playing from her bedroom, “Yeah she really is.”
