in my mind, both Asgore and Sam are talking about the monster human war, the plot twist is that they fight on different sides (Sam once being a human mage and all). so they are just sharing their personal perspective in a very civilized manner...thankfully.

Context if u want em:

Sam sacrificing their old self to fix their almost dead soul, in the end resetting their whole being. Their human body is to big for their broken soul, so to not disappear into the nothingness they build a new body with the little power their soul still have. Now that they survive that, the only thing they need to do is to continue living.

Is Sam still the same person as they were before, they don't remember, nor do they care anymore. As long as they can continue to survive and live to tell the tale, everything will be okay.

Sword

I draw this on my phone cus my laptop is dead and I'm waiting to fix em rn, so imma just lore dump a little bit

Basically back when Sam is still a human mage, they use a sword to cast a spell instead of a wand or a staff, when Sam turns to who they are now they lose the ability to cast human magics unless using glyphs, so they would just use it as a normal sword while casting their "monster" magic

Sam is decent enough with sword fighting, but will definitely lose if its not a 1v1 or if the person they are fighting is of higher skill
