Arrests after Muslims killed in mosque survey violence in India’s Sambhal

Police have arrested dozens, suspended internet services, closed educational institutions, and increased security measures in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh following deadly violence tied to a controversial survey of a Mughal-era mosque.

According to local media, at least three Muslim men—Naeem, Bilal, and Noman—were killed on Sunday during clashes between police and those protesting the court-ordered survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid. A fourth fatality was reported after a 19-year-old later died from his injuries.

“All schools and colleges have been closed and public gatherings prohibited,” said senior police officer Aunjaneya Kumar Singh. Authorities have also barred entry to outsiders, social groups, and public officials without formal approval until April 30, as the administration works to restore order.
