Avenue Thrift was open this last weekend, and one of the new donations was a large collection of wooden nickels -- tokens one could use for a free coffee or a discount on some item. And then there was the one that said "not good for anything, but you've got one." Plus there was a TUIT coin, for when you need to "get a round TUIT".
Most of the selection came from various Sambo's restaurants (1957-1981) -- I do miss those guys -- but did find one that came from Skipper's Fish & Chips, the one in black print with the 7up logo and "Drinkle" the fisherman. Uh, just now noticed I have two of the blue one... maybe I can swap one next month if they still have any. The red ones on the right look similar on one side but the other reveals one was from a Tri-Cities location while the other was good anywhere. In the upper left, one from Sambo's that came out in 1976 and has the Bicentennial logo!
