being a sambucky/sarahbucky shipper is exhausting sometimes cuz ppl don’t let u have fun at all and they keep on trying to bring “logic” into it. i also feel like a lot of ppl just don’t understand u can ship multiple ships at once?? like u ship sarahbucky and ppl always try to say nah it’s not gonna happen or try to relate to st*cky or something. and then when sambucky was a small ship we were all vibing and there wasn’t as much attention. now for some reason, especially these days, i see post like “sambucky is wack samsteve is so much better sam and bucky aren’t even friends” like i love love love samsteve as much as the next person, but why is it just getting attention (when ppl have been saying for years about how good samsteve is) and why are we bringing down sambucky for it? like i tell someone i ship sambucky sarahbucky stevesam stevesharon sammonica n ppl get so confused 😭 sorry for this long ass rant it’s just a lot of weird shit has been happening in this fandom and it’s weird like what is in the air

I really like your point about how they try to bring “logic” into it, because there are arguments they use are only used when it comes to interracial couples.
For instance, people have no problem denigrating Sarah and Bucky saying Sarah and Bucky, didn’t have much interactions, that they’re not gonna happen, when they were clearly flirting, the relationship was confirmed by the writer. And most importantly, you never hear that argument about the lack of interactions, with the Bucky x Yelena ship, two characters that had absolutely no interactions.
I ship Sambucky but anyone who sh*ts on Sarahbucky gets an automatic block from me.
I have seen ships start and grow popular with 1/10 of what SarahBucky had, but suddenly when a Black woman is involved, people need to start making lists of all the reasons it wouldn’t work?
And to be honest, even if Sambucky is more popular now, it’s a little bit the same thing, some of the arguments against the ship are a little week, like the people who are saying that Sam and Bucky aren’t even friends and don’t even like each other that much????
I can assure you, that if two White dudes had walked away together after staring at a sunset together, with their hands wrapped around each other and one of the characters touching the other’s nape, there wouldn’t be so many people denying the romantic aspect of their relationship in the fandom.
When it’s 2 White male characters, the queercoding is obvious to everyone in the fandom but somehow when a Black character is involved, people just dont. see. it.
It’s the reason why people don’t see that Sam has had many more flirty interactions with men than with women. It’s the reason why people are so quick to paint Sebastian Stan as the Sambucky ship captain, because of him saying the Falcon and the Winter Soldier were the real love story, but he said that 5 years ago, and most recently he clearly stated that he shipped SarahBucky, but Anthony has given us much more Sambucky headcanons than Sebastian ever did, headcanon, saying Sam visited Bucky in Wakanda regularly and that Sam used to buy lube for Bucky, but the fandom just ignores that.
I’m mixing a lot of stuff because I’m tired, but what I’m saying is that a lot of reasons why there are so many opposition to the ships are because Black characters are involved, not because people “don’t see the chemistry”, or because they just see them “as friends”, or that “she is a strong woman who doesn’t need a man”.
We are seeing all of this hostilty because the characters involved are not White.
When the critics to Sambucky are coming from Stuckies or other people in the fandom, I’m ok with that becasue that’s what I would be expecting anyway lol. I have no expectation when it comes to that fandom but when the criticism comes from Samsteve or Sarahbucky shippers, it makes me a little sad becuse I want to scream: do you realize we are on the same side right??? Samsteves, Sarahbuckies and Sambuckies are in in this together, at least they should be.
Ok, I can admit it, we have a more crap in the Sambucky fandom because we grew a lot lately. But even with that, I personally feel like it should be Sarabuckies, Sambuckies and Samsteves against the world.
No real Sambucky shipper would sh*t on SarahBucky or Samsteve and by real I mean the shippers who care about both Sam and Bucky and did not migrate to Sambucky just because they wanted a babysitter for Bucky.
One of the problems I have noticed to is that a lot of new shippers come from fandoms were racism was tolerated, so they think that they can continue to pull the same sh*t in the Sambucky fandom. Good example is Stucky, the racism in the Stucky fandom was tolerated, because the accounts that were pulling racists crap could post freely, and the non-toxic fans, wouldn’t do anything, so they were allowed to be racist in peace. So naturaly, a lot of ex-Stucky shippers who move to Sambucky think they will be able to do the same in the Sambucky fandom, and get confused when they can’t do it and get called out.
I’m greatful the Sambucky fandom is growing and that they are so many new shippers, and content, but if you are going to come to the Sambucky fandom and then not care about Sam at all, or sh*t on Sarah, you might as well stay away.
I think it’s pretty cool between SarahBucky shippers, Samteve and Sambucky shippers most of the time. So it pains me whenever a shipper is briging down Sambucky because, the way I see it, we’re all in the same boat.
And I mean it literally. The SarahBucky ship is where the Sambucky ship was 5 years ago: Not a lot of interactions, small fandom, having to deal with a lot of racism and crap coming from Stucky shippers... Same boat.
And yes Sambucky is much more popular now, but when it started we went through everything SarahBucky ship is going through right now.
I agree with you wholeheartedly, we really don’t need to bring other ships down.
The perfect solution is really to create your own fandom space, choose your mutuals and the people you follow wisely. Block the tags you don’t want to see. And block the people whose content upset you and don’t hesitate to call them out if needed!
I was made aware that there was some stuff going on in the Sambucky tag lately, but honestly I hadn’t even seen it because I had the users blocked already. So don’t hesitate to block even if it’s just that you’re getting some bad vibes from the blog. You can always unblock later.
Let me tell you, I am blocked by a LOT of people on this app hahaha, but it works better this way because everyone is just enjoying their own fandom circles. And if there needs to be some fandom subcircles within the Sambucky fandom, so be it. Right now, I feel like we need to create two separate fandoms for the people who are only there for Bucky, and then one for the people who actually care about Sam and Bucky.
Anyway I’m not sure if any of what I’m saying makes sense, I’m a little tired, but you can always come to me with your rants :) And yes!!! Multishipping is a thing.
Honestly, I ship Sambucky more, but there is no ship that I actively that I don’t like, SarahBucky? Top Tier ship. Samsteve? They were basically a couple, the ship has sailed. And let me tell you, even Stucky I don’t hate, I really like the ship and used to ship it my problem is the shippers and the fandom.
I never feel the need to bring other ships down or explain why they won’t work... So I agree with you completely.
