so the thing about sam and ocam is that ocam is so good at playing the silly little dude, people forget he’s a telepath. when darem tells ocam he aced a class, ocam excitedly high fives him and goes “that’s awesome, dude!” even though ocam knew about it the minute darem walked into the room in a good mood. ocam knows that non-betazoids are put off by telepathic and empathetic abilities. it’s not that he’s dishonest in his reactions, but he has to wait till his non-telepathic friends tell him the news verbally before he allows himself to react.
but with sam, he can’t read her thoughts because she’s a photonic. he has to make effort to understand her, needs her words and facial expressions to piece her feelings together. and he feels like as a betazoid, that should unnerve him but it doesn’t. he can let his guard down around her, he can enjoy her genuineness and love for life without having to hold back on his own feelings.
and she’s SO expressive. there’s never any deception with her. she wears her heart fully on her sleeves. and that’s why he falls in love with her.
